Ok so my trial on eq II just ran out so i have about 3 weeks to wait for RoK and just wanted to know what the "best" classes for certain roles would be.

1. Best Solo Class

2. Best Support Class (Buffs)

3. Best Support Class (Heals)

4. Best Tank

5. Best Nuker

6. Best Ranged Class

7. Best Class for Debuffs on mobs

Also i just wanted to know some stuff about Crafting

1. Most profitable

2. Most Useful

Please feel free to add anything you would like to this list if i left something out or go into discussion about the classes. I need something to do for the next 3 weeks while i wait for RoK

No offense meant, but I immediately noticed that the word "fun" was completely missing from your post.

You certainly can play EQ2 "hard core", min/maxing, grinding, etc., but unlike some of the other MMO's on the market, you do not have to do so, to enjoy yourself.

Just something to think about. I hope you enjoy the game, no matter how you decide to play it.

I was planning on adding a poll on what class was the most fun, but every time i put a poll in no one answers it.  Im not very hardcore at mmo's i dont have the time play hardcore to try and max level and what not so i do just play for fun, i was just wondering what peoples opinions were on the classes.

EQ2 has the best economy and crafting system i have ever seen ... unlike lotre or wow ,, averything you craft is usefull , every item has it use and its valuable for people at that object levels , almost everithing you craft  will be sold particulary food and drinks

so take any tradeskill you like they are all good

for in this game people actually do sell and buy crafted items and economy is very much alive

EQ2 has 24 different classes, and they are actual quite balanced. So, if you want to know which class is "best", it isn't one single answer.

"Best" soloer? What type of solo you want? Do you want a efficient class that can kill alot of easy mobs fast and efficient? Do you want a class that can farm relative easy in a green group instance? Do you want a class that is good to solo multiple mobs in general? Want a class that is good on single targets? Want a class that is safer to solo with, or want a class that kill faster?  No class covers all these aspects.

"Best" support class? What you want to buff? Melee? Ranged? Healage? You want some utility in the mix? Want to mezz? Want to focus on power management? The different support class will be better in a few areas, but not all. No class is "best" in all aspects of the support role :)

"Best" healer? A healer can solo heal most group content in the game. In EQ2 I would say that the best heal class is the heal class you miss :). Mixing healers in EQ2 is more of combining different healer classes so they work together. Two healers of the same class isn't that efficient to combine. For healers there is also some personally opinion on what type of heals the "best". Want to heal a brawler? Plate tank? No tank? Duo? Groups? Raids?

"Best" tank? Want to be good against group of mobs? Single hard mobs? Want to be able to solo better? Plan to duo alot, or just group? Want to be main raid tank? Want to tank lower level content faster (room pulls)? Utility?

"Best" Nuker? By nuker, you mean mage, or just damage dealer in general?  If damage dealer in general, do you want ranged or melee type? Want magic or more melee/bow orientated? Want some utility in the mix? Maybe some specific buffs or debuffs. You like fighter style (damage while be able to take a hit)? Scout style (position based)? Root/nuke style (mage)? 

"Best" Ranged class? Mixed with melee or just magic casting? Want some utility in the mix, or just pure damage? Want to be good in AoE damage? or single target damage? Want to work with pets?

"Best" Debuffer? Pretty much the same as the buffer. What kind of debuffer? Melee or ranged? Offensive debuffer, or defensive debuffer?


It wasn't my intentsion to be rude or something, but when people start asking for the best class in EQ2 I can't really answer the question. It's too many factor in the mix to decide what's the "best". In addition there is a factor that I haven't touched yet, and that's a very personally factor, and that is: "What's fun?". If you have some ideas on what you think are fun in a mmo, someone here may be helpfull to actual suggest a couple of classes that may fit you. But, asking for "the best class" isn't working for a game like EQ2. The game is actual very balanced when it comes to class balance.

Your question isn't really as easy to answer as you think. A lot of situational and group makeup variables to consider. But I'll do my best, at least as far as generally... You also have to remember that player skill has a LOT to do with it. For example: I know a player that can solo all of Poet's Palace (group instance) with a Templar easily, which normally is considered a dud solo class, but can't play a Conjuror to save his life, a class considered easy to solo with.

1. Best Solo Class - Conjuror (Monks, Bruisers, Necromancers and Coercers would come pretty close if not better for some people [see above comment])

2. Best Support Class (Buffs) - Troubadors and Illusionists (Dirges and Coercers come in slightly better for melee classes, but troubs are hard to beat for versatility)

3. Best Support Class (Heals) - Loaded question here... Templars and Wardens. Wardens for all out healing per second, and Templars for general healing needs, like stun protection and cures, but still above average healing.

4. Best Tank - 4 out of 5 people will tell you Guardian, but again I've seen Paladins, Berserkers, and Shadowknights kick some major butt (even on the raiding scale).

5. Best Nuker - Wizards for one on one. Warlocks against groups.

6. Best Ranged Class - Ranger, no contest.

7. Best Class for Debuffs on mobs - Brigand edges out the Swashbuckler slightly. Defilers are pretty crazy and Illusionists do pretty well also.

Also i just wanted to know some stuff about Crafting

1. Most profitable - Any of the scholars, carpentry, and provisioning. However, it's all about the player. If you don't put yourself out there, or make an effort to sell your product, it won't matter what you make.

2. Most Useful - Scholars and provisioners. There is always a need for better spells/skills and food/drink.
