Gamers who use RMT are like athletes who use steroids

I know nothing about the series, don't watch the movies.

When I heard this on the news I thought, does the character's sexuality have importance to the storyline?

If not then why state they are homosexual vs heterosexual?

Sounds like more homosexual normalcy agenda propoganda by the left.

OMG!!! A writer made a business decision that made her more money?!?!?! WTF???? How could she?

As Finwe mentioned, writing is generally thought to be a form of art, just like painting, sculpture, woodworking, etc. Yes, if you are really good, you will make money because people will want to purchase the result of your work.

While you could say that writing is a business, it is only with publishing houses that it is *purely* a business. And while some writers may write solely to make money, I will go out on a limb and say that most do it because they have a passion for writing and a real talent for story-telling.

I don't know where J.K. Rowling falls in terms of writing for profit vs writing for art. My original comments were based on the art aspect of her trade, and I prefaced my comments to indicate that.

It seems to me that you, gnome, brought this up purely as a way of bringing out people who do not think well of homosexuality. This become even more clear when, after no one took your bait, you took it yourself and made your last post about how this is all about homosexuality.

If Dumbledore being a homosexual was important to Rowling, then she should have made it more clear in her writing. If it isn't that important, then why bring up the matter now? To me, that seems sort of dishonest.

It isn't important to the storyline, which is most likely why it did not appear in the books -- when would an old man at a school for children begin talking about his sex life? This isn't Catholic School.

As to normalcy, homosexuality is quite normal, as it can be observed in nature.  The only difference is, animals don't hate each other for it, we leave that to the beasts of the world to do.

I don't think she's really doing it for the money, J.K. Rowling has enough money to buy a small island nation.

J.K. Rollins didn't do it for the money, she just likes to watch and think about man on man porn.

I think she is a grade A jerk for saying that now, after the fact.  A lot of people loved those novels and the world she created.  But she never said anything about Dumbledore being gay in the books.

But now, when she no longer needs fan loyalty, she pronounces that Dumbledore is gay.  To me it seems like she's just trying to upset people.  Sticking it to her fans with a kind of childish, "Nya Nya Nya na Nya na!" attitude.

"Oh you know this story you all loved so much?  Well...GUESS WHAT!"

What piece of crap she is.  Because this will taint the series for a lot of people.  The decent thing for her to do would have been to simply leave it open to individual intterpretation.

This reminds of something from way, way back when I was just a pre-school tot.  I remember I liked the Puff the Magic Dragon song.  Remember I was just a itty bitty kid.  Then some arsehole went to the trouble of explaining to me that it was all just a metaphore for drug use.  What a jerk.  It tainted something I enjoyed..and for absolutely no reason.

Peter, Paul, and Mary say it isn't a metaphor for drug use, and they should know since they wrote it.  So there ya go, Dumbledore is still gay but at least you can feel better about that song!

I still don't understand how having a gay character in a book ruins it? There have been gay characters in many books, movies, television shows, etc etc... does that ruin it? I would have to say, no, it does not ruin it for mature, thinking adults and children.  I think it's pretty cool that Rowling is further explaining the many facets of her imaginary world, a lot of authors wouldn't go to the trouble.

*SPOILER ALERT*

I'm not sure if you realize it or not, but the real world has gay people in it.  Hope that didn't spoil anything!  But I will leave it up to your individual interpretation.

Cheers,

  Mal

What would surprise me is if she admitted there were hetero-sexuals in Harry Potter.  The majority of the personalities in it seemed gay.

Justification is an event. Sanctification is a process.

I think everyone here is forgetting something. She didn't call the Q&A to declare Dumbledore as gay, she was just asked a question. She lived with these characters for going on 15-20 years now I believe and so it only makes sense she had many many ideas about them in her head.

Secondly, it appears that Dumbledore never had a homosexual relationship, rather he just didn't care about girls enough to make time for them. She was just fleshing out the character in her mind to find motivation between him and another character and she just felt that a "more than friends" relationship, even a one-sided one, made sense.
