Truth be told the game has gained about 8000 players in the past 2 weeks and now the game only 19.99 at ebg ames special edition and the normal box sony knows they made an mistake and are patching content and bugs faster the any mmo I have ever played. Wow is a sorry excuse for an game and it's only has millions of subscribers because of diablo 2 and warcraft strategy game and have they ever posted how many accounts are actually active i think not, don't get me wrong if your new the the genre wow is a great games to learn how they work but by no means is it a game thats worth playing more then a year. Buy Vanguard if your looking for a an in-depth mmo with nice pve content if your looking for pvp go for dark age. Untill Warhammer comes out Vanguard is teh best mmo out for Pve. |

well... ive read ALOT about Vanguard, SOE etc. I dont care about the past, who done what etc.
I decided to purchase the game some 1 week ago. And my feelings are contoversial about the game. Few things i think are worth to be mentioned about the game. Crafting: very lovley, unique, fun and puts on you really pressure sometimes. 10/10
Performance: man i was so afraid of this. I dont have a crappy PC i think - i run most of games with 80 FPS+ (core2duo, 4GBRAM, 7800GTS). But Vanguard made me worry. I would enjoy the game much more if i woudlnt lag with every second move i made. I think its the game killer nr. 1 still in my opinion. Sometimes it runs really smooth but overall simply lags. Also i cant alt-tab for somereason without the game needs to be closed and restarted. 4/10
Graphics: Dunno what are the guys were so impressed about. Some locations are really very nice (i like the gnomes city inside the mountains) but overall nothing revolutionary really. Many of todays singleplayers games have much better graphics i think. 7/10 Classes / Characters: Very strong side of Vanguard. I like the character creation / options of classes and races. In my opinion this is what EQ 2 needs to become a perfect game in my eyes. I play Necromancer in VG and it would be really entertaining if theere wil lbe no lag in the game. 9/10
Diplomacy, quests etc.: Diplomacy is unique and i found it fun. Quests like many ppl said nothing diff. from WoW or EQ2 (and i sont think its a shame). 8/10
Bugs fixing: for me i oculd see bugs all over the place and its pretty annoying. Merchant standing in the air middle of his tent, need to dismiss my pet so often because he simple doesnt listen when i push his icons after zoning / teleporting / swimming and many other similar stuff makes you wonder.. HOW THE HELL THEY DIDNT FIX THIS BASIC STUFF ALREADY. I mean havent they noticed it? havent anyone reported it? I dont have any logic explanation to this other than they are simply not working enough on the game. 4/10
Overall if you ask wether i would spend 46 USD again in this game. I would tell you no sorry and on 80% im not going to prolong my account further. Not because its not good. But because other available options in the market areuch better at last. I would love to build my own house and craft my boat in an MMO.. but sorry i dont want to suffer in my play i want to enjoy it!

Once again the drama of Hero's continues... and I have to say the same thing again ! I'm sorry but I tried this game in beta and was not impressed. It was a week or so away from launch and it made a mockery of the word beta. I'm sure SOE have improved the game somewhat but as admitted by disgruntled ex developers the game was all hashed togather i the last 12 months and recieved little or no testing. M$ was to do this put since they pulled out.. well this says it all. VG isn't dead but its longetivity is in doubt. It seriously isn't going to deliver an ounce of the hype or even an ounce of cliche standard MMO "stuff".
I really don't see the need to even begin to pay this game attention until the free trial is out. |

Fact1: you can change the object dropping in front of your eyes in settings. The distance, yes you cant expect to see all objects 500m away on integrated 6100 chipset. It's for those with slower machines. Fact2: Every single class have 5-6 abilities each 2nd level. Each class around 60 unique abilities at max level. Thats far more than most of other mmo's. That's far from being incomplete. In addition those abilities are not some never-use ones, they give you plenty of options in combat. Fact3: There are helms in game. There are just no graphics for them yet. You still can have a cloak with cape that covers your head. Fact4: The number of special unique characters on each server is around 50.000. In reality only 40% is active - 20.000 (those stats are from www.vgplayers.com) and im sure people have also plenty of alts. If you check warcraftrealms.com (a website that has stats about your favourite game with the number of characters on each server) it's between 5.000-25.000. Note this data counts only characters logged in at least once in a month. Same data I used to calculate those 20.000 on seradon server. ( I counted them by sorting out all characters on a server that has last logged-date 9/15/2007) This is a proof that VG servers are no way empty. REALITY CHECK |

All this means is that there are people out there who will play anything. If you take a few minutes and think of the 5 absolute worst games you've ever played ... I guarantee you that for each game, there are people out there who think it is great. There is no accounting for taste, which is why as long as Vanguard is online, there will be some number of people playing it. Unfortunately, if you look at the situation objectively, you will see there is no real future for this game. It will sit comfortably inside SOE's "back burner" stable, nestled right with Matrix Online and PlanetSide. It will get minimum developer attention just like these games, bug fixes here and there, every once in a while some token new content. But that's it, and anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves. But hey, if you're enjoying playing, knock yourself out. Have a good time. |

Originally posted by AcidCat Your thesis is more applicable to WoW than Vanguard. In WoW, people will repeatedly do the same things (raid, faction-grind) because they are 1) addicted, 2) there is nothing else to do, and 3) it runs well on their generic (Asian-made) PC.
The Vanguard player is more discerning on 1) World a) size b) feel c) authenticity 2) Graphics a) cutting-edge b) so demanding no gold-farmer in Thailand or China can run the game 3) Classes a) unique classes b) all useful in their own way (think EQ 1) 4) Gameplay a) more challenge b) more complexity (different tactics for different mobs; the mob reacts differently)
I could continue. I think once Vanguard implements more 1) character customization, 2) more raiding, 3) more fun features such as fishing it will do quite well. Assuming AoC and WAR does not really deplete its population further. I imagine the population, today, must be increasing if only slightly.
As an aside, it is not a stretch to say that WoW is mostly a child's game and Asian.www.youtube.com/watch
WoW is so easy, a child, an Asian gold farmer, and a caveman could play it. ----- |

Avoiding this site for honest feedback on this game is good advise. For many people, there is no graphicly acceptable alternative to VSoH. If I had never played this game, and considered the opinions of the more outspoken people here, God help us, I would probably believe Vanguard could give you aids and set your video card on fire. And that by supporting it, I would be ushering in a new age of crappy games from developers that don't consider what they do to be art anymore. |

Yeah people on this borde seem to be mad because they got them selfs overhyped over a video game and were let down.
You should never get you're self to hyped for a game or you will probley be disapointed. "Don’t unthinkingly follow authorities, whether intellectual, political or religious. And don’t unthinkingly follow traditions, or social conventions. Think for yourself. Look at the facts, and try to base you're views and your behavior on how things actually are."

Originally posted by Tnice LOL. only saying the word "WoW" in that context prooves your ignorance. vg is one of the best games after swg (pre nge). it just is not finished. however, it will be finished sometime. new games? so what do we have there:
- warhammer. wow- clone with daoc pvp. another cartoon- mmorpg. no mam. - tabula rasa. a game without any noncombat features. no mam.
to take just 2 examples of the biggest recent outcomings. the whole mmorpg world is a mess at the moment and vg is one of the exceptions of that. |

It is way to true though.
Anyway, imo it is mainly the performance that drove so many away. If you can't play the damn thing, then how can you know if it is fun or not. I actually upgraded my computer after I played this, because it did look like it had potential(also I had no expectations whatsoever, I thought it was way much hype from the getgo). I don't play it anymore, but it still isn't a bad game at all. I would definately say the gameplay is a good bit better than a alot of MMO's out right now. |

I strted VG in the Beta, Pre-Ordered and stayed with it for a couple months after launch. At that time there were several/bug and perf problems. I reactivated my account a month or 2 ago, and while the perfomance of the game was far better that last I played there were still a couple things that drove me NUTS!
1. The Combat Animations. I cant really explain it, but they always looks so cheap and choppy. Has this been fixed yet? At one point in BETA we were told these animations were just PH animations until the bugs were ironed out, and that it was a polish thing to be fixed later.
2. Chunking Problems. I/E , falling through the world at sea, torch being rest, horse disappearing, weather differnces chunk to chunk.
3. Character customization. Yes, there lots of options. But with only 4 hairstyles (which we were PROMISED more by launch) everyone ends up looking basically the same in the world. Very subtle differences.
Now, before I get yelled for ragging on the game I must make it clear, over all... I truly enjoyed VG, I do think has the potential to become a GREAT game! I quit due to these reasons , plus several other small reasons which appears SOE has fixed or are fixing atm. Basically I quit playing, because the game was by no means a finished product, now worth it to me to PAY to play BETA, which is what it felt like to me. My biggest compalint was simply the animations. It drove me completely nuts, being in a huge beatiful world and my character looked so ....... well .... generic when fighting LOL.
So in short, have these issues been addresed yet? I do look forward to returning to VG one day when, and if they get everything fixed. |

1. Nothing has changed on this one accept for they did improve fps, which indirectly lead to cutting a few clips of animation off our characters. This makes them look a little choppy if you look closely. Not noticable in combat but when running through towns an stuff. No new animations for combat so, every caster looks the same when they cast practically an same with melee looking same in combat. 2.Chunking has become much smoother. Also torches stay lit. Only downside is with gu3 phase 1, if you play a bard and are unlucky, which I do an have been, you will instantly die or loose all your energy an not be able to maintain a song without logging out to reset. Doesnt happen to terribly often depending on your luck. 3. Still just 4 hairstyles. to quote you: Now, before I get yelled for ragging on the game I must make it clear, over all... Don't worry bout the "rabid" fanbois, their bark is worse then their bite. This is a public forum that one should not feel uncomfortable in while asking questions or expressing opinions. Yes, I am currently playing.
