Is it just me who finds this site getting spammed lately by huge amount of free to play asian crap mmorpg's? Is it possible to somehow separate asian mmo's from regular on the gamelist or remove them entirely?

I dislike F2P games as well, but I doubt they're going to get removed.  The only reason they could be removed is if they had no English website and/or an English client in the works/out already.

They're MMO games too, so for the sake of journalistic integrity, you can't exclude them.  Plus, there are some people around here that do enjoy the Asian F2P games, so that wouldn't be fair to them.

I do think it's a decent idea to split F2P games and P2P games into different categories, though.

Honestly I dont see as much F2P on MMORPG.com as I first expected. MMORPG really seems to focus on P2P. Lots of F2P on other forum sites (which I wager I shouldnt list).

This is the place I go for all the mainstream games, I havnt been that distracted by F2P.

Like it or not Free to play games using alternative subscription model (item malls) are here to stay. While most of these F2P games may not adhere to the quality of an AAA game that most of us american players are used to. The problem I think is this, to make a triple AAA quality game you need several millions of dollars in capital funds for development (I think in 1997 EQ1 cost only $3 million dollars to develop while WoW cost Blizzard in 2001 dollars around $15-20 million dollars to develop). The problem is many of these F2P game developers do not have substantial funding so the quality of the game will be low, if you take a look at lineage 2, the game is developed by NCsoft initially for the asian market but the quality of the game is high.

This doesn't really bother me as much as the home page occasionally becoming just one huge LotRO advertisement . While I do agree, personally, that I'd never touch an Asian MMO - due to their overarching similar designs in grinding and anime graphics - they have just as much right to be presented on the site as any other MMO created elsewhere.

Asian game developers has a very different mindset compared to western game developers. That is the reason why you see many asian online rpg games that looks similar in gameplay style. The mantra of asian mmorpg developers is "Easy to play, a lifetime to master" and they all must go by the same mantra. It's essentially THE rulebook on which how a game should be designed and deviating from that rule will ensure that your game won't ever get published or approved for that matter. This is another reason why many asian games are so grindy, essentially the developers let players hone their game skill thru repetitive practice. Also this is why they encourage gain thru pain instead of instant gratification.

I'm a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" and have a rabid distaste for dime-a-dozen, poorly made F2P games as well. The only exception that crosses my mind is Guild Wars, but with their constant rollout of expansions, I somehow consider them exempt from having to bear the F2P scarlet letter. I find the mmorpg.com homepage to be entirely too busy with ads for crap F2P games, but hey, I enjoy the site and they gotta pay the bills somehow.

The main point was that there are people on this site that do like F2P games (I loathe them, personally), and it's not fair to exclude those games from coverage simply because those of us that enjoy P2P games consider them to be vastly inferior products in our own eyes.  Technically, they're still MMOs as well, so you have to cover the issue of whether or not it's a good idea to exclude F2P games (or only the low quality) ones, because it's a very subjective topic.

Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder, one man's trash is another man's treasure, and so on.

It's just something we're going to have to deal with.  Better separation of the two models is about as much as we could probably get.

This isn't a racist topic at all.  Its a fact that most F2P games come from Asia and the market for most F2P games is predominantly Asian.

It is also a fact that these Asian F2P games have a vastly lower production value (and therefore lower overall quality) than the mainstream AAA P2P MMOs which is why they don't charge you for them.

I'm not saying if you pour enough money into a game it will be good, but you definitely can't make a good game without a large sum of cash.

Hrmmm...well anyway not sure where that came from but..I am not a fan of the F2P Games either (this does not make me racist ) i have noted a few of the F2P adds on the main page but for the most part there are more adds and such for P2P games than there are F2P so it really does not bother me I do like that poster that mentioned segrigating the F2P and the P2P games (this also does not qualify me as a racist).   For the most part the few F2P adds do not bother me.

Asian people call asian f2p games "asian f2p games" because they are from asia.  Sometimes I call chinese food "chinese food" even in front of chinese people!  They don't mind too much.  Once I heard a Japanese guy call a Japanese car a "Japanese car" and I was like woah!  what a self-hater!
