Wish them well, pray for the best, keep your expectations in check. This is obviously a game early in development. Things can and will change especially early on in development. The final product could end up being radically different from its inception. That said this game could end up being anything. Third parties, external licenses, technologies, and the market could radically shift this game in any number of directions. I would say give this game half a year to bake before you start to get interested. Right now the future is too vague to be worth even looking at.

Originally posted by winter Holy cow you certainly showed how much you know about IP and licensing. First of all, a developer does not sell their existing rights to another developer, it is purely at the discretion of the IP holder to determine. So, Bioware does not have the right to sell their license to any developer. Only LucasArts does, since they own it and grant it to whom they see fit. Secondly, the license is not a set rate as so many people think. It is negotiated. What this means is, that a company such as Bioware can negotiate for a substantially discounted license fee (or have the fee waved) based on their track record, because they can garantee a certain number of sales. KoTOR was a sales smash. Bioware, if they chose two, could pretty much pay whatever they feel like paying for the license because whatever they touch turns to gold and LA knows it. Not only is the fee negotiable, but so is creative control (although it's harder to get).

This appears to be the right spot to check in and get one’s hopes up. However, that damn reality angel on my shoulder keeps telling me not to get too excited yet. He’s such a pain in the arse.
I love how EnB junkies just can’t let go, myself included. But, don’t expect this one to be like Earth and Beyond if the space side is FPS based. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be good, provided you weren’t an Enforcer addicted to kiting. |

nah its not dead..
its a game being developed by people who dont' seem to have commercial support and have to work for a living in other areas. What it looks like to me is that they are fans of MMO's and probably even the concepts behind the orignal SWG game and have decided to "do it right" instead of pushing out buggy crap. |

Originally posted by wodoonap Not surprised in the least. My suggestion for the team would be the following: First, determine each member's level of commitment to the project. If everyone's on board to do some drastic things such as uproot your life and move, then (and only then) are they ready for the funding step. They'll have to determine a command structure for a corporate entity, draw up a business plan, and then seek investors. That's the hard part -- also the priciest. Trade shows are a good bet, as well as cold calling and finding contacts through newsgroups. I'm not really good at this (I've never been in a good enough position to make sales) so I couldn't say -- but capital is a must. With capital they'll be able to start on their dream project. They'll be indentured for the next 700 years, but they can get it going. -- xpaladin [MMOz] |

$OE bought the rights to Matrix and DC Comics from the developer of MxO when they bought them out. EA bought the rights to Warhammer when they bought Mythic.
When you buy the option on a license, and that company is bought... they own the option on it. It happens in movies all the time. Whatever "rights" the licensee has in the contract stays the same depending on how the contract is written. A license agreement is considered an asset that is bought when you acquire the company... it happens ALL THE TIME. Shayde - SWG (dead)

This sounds amazing, finally some good news for all sandbox/SWG-pre-CU fans : ) Why cant a major company do this instead of doing those damn #"¤*¤"## WoW clones? It takes some real people to decide to do it. Gratz......keep up the good work. |

ZO might be fun if it ever gets far, I don't care if it lacks the licensed content that real Star Wars (or EU) contains, I liked the game core mechanics, interface, economy, profession mixing templates and several other variable capacities. The NGE took away the majority of those which is why I no longer play, I even tried playing a little in Sept during the vet reactivation trial and though NGE has improved, is still not even impressive and I came across some very annoying bugs and Jedi is still as buggered up as it was when NGE came out. I still like my BH though and smuggler seems a LITTLE better (I'm one of the few that managed to create a 3rd character slot). |
