Can any of you answer a question for me? I tried EQ 2 with a friend and was having fun then we noticed after combat .. our character auto healed to full? WTF? We were completely turned off right then, how could you explain autohealing completely that fast?

I did like the game though and was wondering if this stupid game mechanic was maybe only something for low levels while you are learning or did EQ2 cheese it up all the way to the top?

Whats wrong with that, how do you expect to regain health otherwise without having to play a healer?

Thats why you have food, it helps with out of combat health regeneration.

Now of course the higher level you are (ie: more hit points) the longer it takes to regenerate your HP's.

I don't think you understand what I am saying. At the level we was it was basically COMPLETELY healed to full almost instant. Do you not see anything wrong with that? That is cheesy. My question is does that cheesy mechanic go on throughout the game or gradually would you just set and eat after battles.

Even WoW as simple as it is was harder than this combat. As a melee character I was able to take 4-6 monsters at once because after one died, I would go to FULL no matter if I was in combat still with others. That was very very cheesy. Can you explain if this was just because we were in the lower trial levels? The game can't possibly be this way all the way through?

Edit: I would like to add, it completely removed the feeling of needing my real life friend to party with. It made it trivial and very unfun.

You have out of combat regeneration whether your level 1 or 70. As ive stated it takes longer at the higher levels to regain health but different types of food affect how quick you regenerate HP's.

If you dont like it you can always not equip any food which will ensure you regain HP's very slowly.

The thing was we was in combat still. I had 4 monsters I was fighting .. one would die and I would regen to full..... I guess what I am asking is does this happen at all levels. Out of combat regen that fast is cheesy but could be dealt with .. in combat was lame.

Please don't try to defend the game you love to me, I understand you like it. I just curious if this is the case at all levels. Out of combat is different than 5 monsters hitting you while you almost instantly regen after each one dies.

What happened is that you went across a 10% experience barrier.  When you "mini-ding" you regain all health and power.  When your character is low level this happens pretty often.  Don't worry as you progress further this will happen less and less often

Thanks! I may give it another shot. I appreciate you explaining that to me. My friend will be glad to hear the reason behind that, we were dumbfounded by what we saw.

Is this really all it would take to turn you off of a game or are you just being silly?

Everquest II is NOT a hardcore game.  It is a very deep, rish and detailed game.  But overall compared to Everquest it is not very hardcore.  In the spirit of that SOE gave us mini-dings.

Mini-dings happen 10 times a level and renew all your health and power automatically.  It is particularly useful when you pull way over your head a multiple encounter and mange to kill one, refresh all stats and slay the next.

The thing is, if you want hardcore your going to hard pressed to find a fantasy game with modern graphics.  Simply put World of Warcraft set the casual tone for fantasy MMORPG's.  And every company is following suit, even SOE.

But...if your short on time and still want to play an MMORPG and have fun, EQ2 is the best out there.  If you got loads of time, EQ2 is still the best out there.  Even though leveling is quick, the game isn't very hard for experienced hardcore players, it has so much to do you won't be easily bored.

I agree with the OP 100%. Regaining health just because you "dinged" is retarded and unrealistic and yes, little immersion killing things like this that are dummy down convenience designs are dealbreaking aspects for me also. Also non healer classes or characters that focus less on healing skills should suffer the setback of taking longer to heal, it's called opportunity cost and prevents everyone from being a cookie cutter class and fosters cooperation between classes and players of various skills.

Classic EQ did not heal you when you "dinged" and was a better designed game. Too bad it doesn't exist anymore and has been morphed into an easy game also.

What you experienced is a mini ding, all 10% experience you get fully healed. Is it that hard to understand? Oo

And of course, those mini dings get less and less cause it takes you longer to lvl up the higher you get.

Clealrly the min-ding full heal is not in line with the rest of the mechanics and I can see why you would question it as a singular aspect. However, to drop a whole game due to this singular piece seems as trivial as the aspect itself.

EQ2 combat is generally fun and the raiding etc aspects are great with multi-guild groups, largly because EQ2 has a great community ( something that spoiled WOW for me). I would suggest you play for a while longer and experience all the other aspects of teh game before you give up on something due to one relatively minor piece.

IF its full world immersion you after - try RL. I hear its really hard combat there

And ahmen said the creator of vanguard, and lo the hardcore that was the original EQ was ressurected with modern day graphics only to crash and burn in a spectacular fashion.  The mmo genre has changed to fit what the masses want in a game and I'm afraid to say that you are in a definate minority.  From a purely business perspective it pays to do what the majority of players want even if the vocal minority scream otherwise, welcome to the real world.

Wait wait wait.... you guys are mad because you don't have a sit and pick your nose as much in between mobs? You actually want to have your character just sit there while you slowly regen, rather than having a system that speeds up gameplay, and lowers downtime.

I've heard every complaint possible now...

Thank you for all the feedback. Well it is a trial for a reason to let me see if the game is something I would enjoy. However it has been explained better to me, even though it sounds a little silly. I read that it gets to be less and less so it isn't a complete deal breaker, but you do understand my first impressions was at low levels where it made combat trivial and my friend and I were bored quickly.

I don't like mechanics just to make my game experience easier, I like a challenge but like I said and from what I read this game has a solid raid experience and may be what I am looking for. Thanks again. You may mock the immersion thing but that is an important part of gaming for me. WoW so far is doing okay for me so I am just shopping around. WoW like you said has a horrible audience and is too easy of a game.

Actually I have an attention span and am not a spastic child that I need instant gratification. I rather have a little realism thrown in my game and challenge. If I am hurt after a fight I should have to have my healer heal me ..or set and eat something. Not all of us are always just happy for shortcuts to cheapen our gaming experience. I play for the game not being the top level as fast as I can.

I believe he is not talking about when you fight a monster and level and get full health. I believe he emans when youkill a monster you get full health out of no where.

Seriously, why do you play a video game for it to be realistic.  Dont play a FANTASY MMMORPG and expect it to be realistic

I don't like some of the mechanics in this game either.

I.E. starting as whatever class you want without having to do anything to even earn it. Same for skills.
