i agree with bedolla. SWG was fine until people started spamming several SWG forums saying becoming a jedi is way to difficult. SOE did not cause this, several whiny-*** SWG players caused the downfall of SWG. If a company sees a large group of players complaining about an element in a game they will obviously try to change it, it's basicly common sense. A game company must appeal to all their game players. |

Jedi should be overpowered. However, they should not be given to everyone freely (like they are now).

honestly it was the people who ruined this game. They wanted it to be easier to become a jedi so they got what they wanted.

Still my feelings on the matter...
In my personal opinion it was not jedi alone that killed SWG. It was peoples complaints about every little thing in the game that killed SWG. SOE listened to each and every one of those little complaints and tried to fix them which in turn nerfed every profession from CH to Jedi to BH... That was what killed it, people pissin and moaning about stuff and SOE listening. Now look what has happened to SWG, it is a sorry excuse for a game. People need to learn to adapt to things without complaining. Pre-patch 12 my BH/Rifleman (I know horrible build) could take on a Jedi Knight. Yes i would lose but i would also win. But the difference is when i would lose i wouldnt go on the forums and spam about how jedi need to be nerfed... I would figure out new ways to kill them. Thats what you are supposed to do! Not go onto the forums and piss and moan about every little thing. So imo Jedi did not kill the game, it was people who did not want to figure out how to beat something using what they had given to them. |

LA wanted more Jedi, because their Jedi-centered games (Jedi Outcast/Academy, KOTOR) were great commercial and critical successes. They thought Jedi were want people wanted, but the problem was SWG was designed not to have Jedi, to have a different take on the SW universe, one in which Jedi were there, but vanishingly rare, and definitely not 'everyman", which was who the SWG player was supposed to be. In the original series, only the main characters were force wielders. However, in the prequels, force wielders were all over the place in the background as extras. Players are filling the role of extras. SWG was set in the original series timeframe; LA wanted the force wielding, sales generating Jedi in the game even though they were not appropriate for the timeframe. Marketing wins all the time. So we're flooded with idiots wielding lightsabers. CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested. Once a denizen of Ahazi |

I disagree that Jedi ruined the game, it was the path to Jedi and of course the NGE which freely gave Jedi as a starting profession that ruined the game. Before the village days were at its best, the hologrind was hard on many people and they usually quit after the 10th or 15th profession, I got lucky and unlocked on my 10th profession (by accident after a silent holo after taking advice on which set of professions to go with). The village however was alot of fun except phase 3 where you had to walk a commander 10,000 km across the mountains with limited time and opened up new heightened possibilities for non-Jedi characters (vehicular control, inheret terrain neg, etc.). After publish 9 (more like post JTL) there were guilds dedicated to Jedi only and forming ganksquads with perma overt, which drove off alot of casual PvPers. |
