Sorry for the title rip-off, but could it work the other way around too? What MMO games and in particular what game elements do you think could be interesting to see in a movie in the cinema? And I mean a movie for the broad audience, not only for geeky fans. |

Age of Conan. Maybe that Austrian body builder can play the main character. What's his name. |

I'm in the process of writing a screenplay loosely based on one of them. But can't say which one right now. |

Originally posted by Death1942 The sad thing is, the WoW movie will probably be a smash hit revenue wise only because of the WoW moniker. Which just makes me puke when I think of the WoW movie, followed by all the other drivel hollywood will churn out afterwards, trying to cash in on the "mmo movie" craze. |

That's easy-- City of Heroes. There's enough lore and enough of an origin story for the Freedom Phalanx to provide a backstory for it, and the superpowers and abilities that the different heroes and villains would have would translate well to the big screen. Plus, there'd be lots of explosions and destruction, which is always good. Of course, it wouldn't be anywhere near high art, but it could be a decent popcorn flick for the summer. |

Warcraft and Everquest are already in the making, I believe EQ has the best chances of a good quality movie. |

any sandbox game. these games have very loose backstories, have real conflict in them, territory control, alliances, and traitors. basically everything you need to make an epic WWII move without actually being WWII. |

I don't believe any MMO out today would be able to hold an audiences attention, with the exception of Eve or possibly Earth and Beyond. Both have a deep history and can easily be developed into a 2 hour movie. Conan has been done and would only appeal to the fans of the books and old movies. While I wouldn't mind seeing another conan movie, I don't think it would draw the audience numbers that studios are now aiming for. WoW might flop in theaters just because most audiences would expect the story to be something as epic as lotor. It could be pulled off but I don't think it would be nearly as successful as people think. City of heroes wouldn't work because you need to focus on certain characters and telling thier story. I think that would be kind of hard with hundreds or thousands of other heroes flying around saving people while your main character is debating what to do about a villian. If you take away the other heroes and just provide the story with a couple then your not really staying true to the IP and it will flop because of that also. ---- |

The CoH comics stuck to the main signature heroes in the game (Statesman, Positron, Manticore, etc.), so it's possible for a movie to do the same. It would make sense, after all, since those are the ones that most people familiar with the game would know offhand. CoH wouldn't be any different in scope or execution than an X-Men or Justice League film. Focus on the main heroes and villains and their conflict (i.e., the Freedom Phalanx vs. Arachnos) and it could work. |
