First of all it's not even technically a review.  It's some guy on a second rate two bit website emailing his friends on what he saw/experienced.  Also it seems, the people over at LoD are quite excited and hyped over this game even now.  So not really a unbiased account.

Secondly, the so called PR people over at DF had to look over this so called "review" before it was relesed.  So right there it shows you it's not a review.   When we see a real review from a neutral proper website then will talk.

Lastly, the guy doing the review was given something to demo/play that is a year old.  So how is this a proper review? 

Look I'm not here to see DF fail.  Infact I hope it succeeds.  I'll be the first one to come here and say I was wrong, this game is everything they said it would be.  But you DF fan(antics) need to take a big hit of reality.

As far as DF is supposed to be, I like the features and such. The features would make a really good game. Unfortunately, I don't feel that Darkfall will be the one to bring even 1/3 of these features to light. Why? It's not game development that's hoding DF back, it's DFs' developers who are holding DF back.

But you keep on re-reading that "review" (lmao) one individual who supposedly played the game wrote, so you can keep your faith up. 'Cause it's about the only half-assed "proof" of an actual game there is.

A fan went to Athens, played the game (in some form) and said it was awesome.
Now you can either believe...

-they played it, and it was indeed awesome

-they played it, but were lying about it being awesome

-they never played it, and are just lying

-they don't exist, the clan is making it up
or
-the clan doesn't exist, the devs are just making it up

None of those options can be proven unless we go to Greece for ourselves, and apparently we can't trust other people to go because they might just lie about the whole thing.
At this stage it's all a matter of belief, not facts.

Personally I believe he did go there and try the game. I believe he was restricted to reveal anything new because of an NDA. I believe he was not giving a review but rather a informal hands on impression. I believe he was there on more important terms and that this visit was a secondary priority for him.

I follow this game because it sounds interesting, something I would like to play. I'm not bound to its fate, nor would I make sacrifices of any kind for its benefit. 
This is the stance of many Darkfall fans, we are not blind followers because we support the idea of game that may or may not come out. We are not gullible idiots just because we get excited when we hear some news (which as you know is a rare occurrence).

What I'm saying and always have said is that no side of the vapour-argument can be 100% correct because there is no beta. For that reason, it's the naysayers that may as well step back since your only purpose is to argue a point which cannot be proved eitherway and spur the believers into negative stereotyping. If the game is canceled or fails, then you will have your moment. But until then, you have no reason to keep posting and will be labeled a troll.

Just look around, a lot of ppl(or fanboys) waiting for darkfall. The point is, darkfall is as much different as any other game in development, that a lot of player will play it, especially the old uo players(pre trammel).

Darkfall may be a niche game, it may just have 100-200k subscriber(but this would be enough anyway), and they will be diehard fans for a long period of time, because they have waited around 10 years for a new game, which offers more freedom as the standard EQ clones, like the old UO or even more.

The only thing which can fall darkfall, is darkfall and their devs themself, if it is buggy or extremely laggy.

But if it is as solid as all we hope here, it will be a success.. maybe just a niche success, but most probably a new success like eve, a long lasting success. Just my impressions. And this review is just another step, that our hs bopes could be true.

This is how I see it playing out.  DF will be a niche success like EVE....(maybe a few more subs because it is a fantasy MMORPG which is more popular with folks) and its followers will be very loyal, playing the game for many years.  They won't be lured away by the 'flavor of the month' MMO's

The ship combat stuff does sound interesting. I wonder if there will be sharks? Like if you sink an enemy ship, and the surviving crew is left floating around in the water... do they have to swim back to shore? Wait to be rescued? Can they get tired and drown? Will sharks come eat them? I imagine that'd be a really funny site to sink an enemy ship and sail in circles around the wreckage watching the sharks go to town.

Actually, that's very, very morbid of me to think lol... but it's just a game.

I played UO back in the day, and it was both fun and infuriating. I'd like to check Darkfall out to see if they can recapture the fun that old UO was, but that is such a high bar to reach, I honestly don't think a first time "indy" developer can pull it off.

Actually, I've been far from a troll in this thread, and have said/done nothing to be reported for, so not worried about that too much. Unlike elitexion, I state my reasons for my opinion of the game without having to resort to "go away n00b" responses and personal attacks.

i am neither a fanboi nor a troll. I couldnt really care if this game does great or does horribly. But i am curious. My problem is that there is always alot of talk about the system, gameplay, etc...but the general public has not seen anything. What one person says  "OMG THIS GAME IS AWESOME" could be the truth, or it could be fanboi delusion. Alot of people said the same thing with DnL. DnL talked of revolutionary systems, great gameplay, etc...and when the time came, it was a pure sham.

What makes me think Darkfall is anything less? At least DnL was nice enough to open a beta and show numerous videos of what it was like, even while under NDA and such. There has been almost no information or gameplay videos released on Darkfall. The talk and hype are definitely there, but the same with DnL before the beta came out. Look how well DnL did. Revolutionary games and hyped systems tend to do bad things to the general cleanliness and stability of the game.

Do we know how buggy the game will be? Do we know what the pvp dynamics are going to be like? Do we know how well the graphics engine will run? Do we know how well character balance will be? Do we even know what the gameplay looks like? And i don't mean scripted little scenes, I am talking about actually watching someone run around and pve'ing or pvping? How many of these systems/features will be ready by the time the game is release? all, none, some? No....all the hype might just turn out to be a polished turd. I am not saying this game is vaporware at all...but maybe it just wont live up to what they promised.

So like i said earlier, I will beleive it when i see it....untill then i will remain neutral. And i won't hold my breath.

Honestly, if the posts in this thread are any indication of how the target audience is going to behave once this game actually releases, I think I'll stay far away.  The game itself is intriguing, and I've been keeping an eye on it for a long time---but the community makes or breaks games of this type.

I really hope that the behaviour that I've been seeing is just an isolated incident of certain overenthusiastic fans from the DF boards posting over here, but sadly, I see no indication of this being the case.

Also, as an aside, some of the posts on this board are a fine example of how age does not indicate maturity at all.

Well im pretty sure you cant judge the games community by looking at a few posters on one website, that is just silly.  I suggest you go to the DF main website forums, youll get a better feel for what the community will really be like.

And to everything else, like some have said, we will see in beta so all this talk is pointless.

Anyways, how long would it take for so called trolls to win (given that the devs never cancell the development)? Or would it just go on forever, the fight between the naysayers and yaysayers?

I personaly think it will come, eventualy, but it will do exactly like DnL did. Interesting mechanics, alot of bells and whistles, some extraordinary ideas, all together a very compeling litle gem of a game, but with bugs, crappy animations, awful engine, lost in translation from a game that was destent to shine in the begining of this decade to a game that will fade away in the end.
