Mr. Crowley, would you ride my white horse?

Oh, Mr. Crowley, it's symbolic, of course.

A simple truth-"What people want and what is good for an mmo is not always the same thing"-mrw0lf

Hmm, unannounced change in upper management.  Yet another sign that not everything is as it appear over at Turbine and perhaps a reflection on the 'success' of LotRO.

Will be interesting to see if they comment on it after Warcry reaches them.

It's most likely not a good indicator for Anderson's acheivements.

LOTRO is at least 5 times more successful than your precious EVE.

People should already realise that no game ever again will be measured as sucesfull as WOW.  For a normal MMO
LOTRO sold more than enough boxes and is having very healthy player base...

So i really can not see this related to some LOTRO issue

Lotro will have to greatily enhance its engame if it plans to keep the wheels rollin (especially when warhammer and age of conan release)....been there done that to the hilt and its really lacking

Change in CEO is interesting and one would have to see where Anderson went to really take an educated guess as to what transpired.

AC2 was one of the worst beta experiences for me and I seriously could not believe Turbine was behind it...glad it tanked

DDO is a novelty and could really work well for the ultra casual D&D fanatics who simply want to get in there quick and adventure without distractions

They best put a concentrated effort on LOTRO and updates/expansions and forget concentrating mostly on the Player vs Monster Player so much, but much moreso the casual player JRR tolkien fanatics experience ingame (which imho needs alot of tweaking)...or their gonna lose a lions share of their fan base...mark my words they want to be ultra careful where they are taking this game with 2 very popular PvP centric MMORPGs on the Horizon and WoW releasing another expansion this December. Ya'll can gloat about LOTRO's success of late but I had no problem quitting and seens tons of other peeps quit as well with many more talking about doing the same...this is not the same environment when Everquest and Asheron's Call was around, much has changed and there is alot more competition but not so much competition in the casual gamer market which they are working on monopolizing with DDO and LOTRO if they play their cards right they could really do well in the long run.

LOTRO is a very ordinary game.

LOTRO and in fact many mmo's are simply placeholders for many people until AoC and WAR come out.

No one would be playing LOTRO if WAR or AoC was out right now, (except of course die hard fans).

When AoC and WAR come out tons of player bases will shift as players will want to try these games out, if the games are any good, players will stay with WAR or AoC until the new "it" is released.

There's also the obvious failure of Dungeons and Dragons Online, which now has a playerbase so small, all the servers are being merged into one. I'm betting D&DO has alot more to do with this than LotRO.

I can honestly say after AC2 and LOTRO I am done with Turbine. Doesnt matter how much the structure changes within the company. I am a HUGE LOTR fan both books and movies. However LOTRO is a game and not verry fun IMO. I have actually started playing the various F2P/OB's/free trials to get my by till WAR is released. I loved AC1 and tried staying faithfull to the company who created the best MMO to date imo but the last 2 games of theres I played where huge disapointments. Changing your CEO is not going to change that.

I wonder if he was 'McQuaided' or if he left to seek out another job?

I also played ac1, then DAOC, then SOE, then horrizons, then wow , I also played in short interludes, eve, coh, and dod.

I almost did not play lotr because of the character grfx in beta (i only played for one day). I read reviews here and gave it another try.  I dont know what people in this forum have against it (except that its by turbine and they feel they got screwed with AC2) but i really like it. the server im on is full or it seems to be. Bree has people running all over the place. I think the grfx (except for the elf male heads - so dorky) are the best in any game i have seen so far -- even Vanguard (for got to mention i played a monk to level 25) which had great grfx but was just too slow to play even on a good machine. I play lotr on ultra high and could not play vanguard on low.

My friends from these other games have come over and its the first time that all of us like the game. all that said so you know where im comming from

I would think that there must be between 500k and 800k subscribers because very few people would have more then 5 characters and the game always has lots of people running around. there must be between 1 and 2000 people playing at any time and there are usually 10-20 times the number of subscribers.

honestly it depends on what they call success, if they are basing it on profit vs cost I am sure they have already made more than they put into it.  49.99 a box, 15 for the first month, and the random people who were addicted during beta that shelled out 200 for a game they probably dont play anymore... I think they have more than broke even.

now if they are useing wow as a standard, they failed, and pretty much everyone after them will for a good while, wow was a fluke, it's kinda like halo.. it's real easy and dumbed down version of the others in it's genre so that anyone and everyone can play it, and has built itself alot of hype.    personally I dont think there will be another "wow" for a good while, mainly because people are so quick to point out flaws rather than acknowledge all the good things about the game/games.

I'm not surprised at all.
