I think it has a chance, as long as it doesn't get flooded with korean farmers and botters... |

Originally posted by daelnorThe thing is that modern Asian MMO's generally are very competitive in those areas. You will, in this/next generation of games, find very good character customization (face-molding and the likes), you will also find a much greater focus on quests and alternate ways of progressing. So if those are your concerns, lets just say that Aion probably isnt aiming at doing worse than the competition! :)

This game has a snowball's chance in Hell of being number one in non-Asian countries. It has a chance of surpassing non-Asian MMORPGs in worldwide subscriptions, though. It seems so many people are curious about Aion surpassing WAR, or AoC, or WoW, or whatever. Why? If you like the game, play it, do not stroke your fanboi ego predicting that Aion will crush everything, particularly when such a phenomenon has no predicate. Furthermore, people hyping this game so much and saying it has everything they want, how do you know? There is a very minimal amount of available information that details exactly what this game is about and what this looks like. There are pretty trailers, and short descriptions, but what is inspiring such faith? It just seems very foolish to be such a rabid fan based off the scant information available. I think a lot of it is simply the appeal of pretty graphics and flying, which are both novelties that will wear off unless this game breaks the Asian cycle of grinding and shallowness. Maybe Aion will be a great game, maybe not, but as difficult as it is before release to say so, it is even harder to do so when the company is so tightlipped. |

At first glance the environments and characters do look distinctly anime, and I have to admit I've never found an anime mmo I've liked so that is deffinitly a hurdle. But I'll reserve my judgement on a game till I have a chance to play an open beta, all MMO's are 99.99% hype untill you try them, then it all comes crashing down. Heck, I wanted to play Tabula Rasa till I got on beta...Now I just raise giant mutant ants and train them to fight as my personal army. Arioc Murkwood |

Originally posted by Synhell There's a quality poster right there! Aion has LESS features? As far as I know it has all the features thse other new games coming out have.. RvR, Competition for 'castles' or camps which enables you better mats and such. An interesting story line that your character actually follows via quests and mini movies, dungeons that you can do solo and some with friends. A crafting system and mats you need to find in the world, the classes are a bit traditional but they do branch into more advanced versions. Character customisation is pretty in depth and on par with western games, if not more so. Flying is not a mode of transportation it's part of strategic fighting, also you can use it to find items and mats high up (I think??) As for transport there will be other means available. The only ports we know of lead to the Abyss and hopefully it stays that way. It's a pretty good start feature wise imo. As for the point of this thread, I also hope it does fairly well but not too worried about being number 1 or whatever.. I hope it's along the lines of lotro and eq2 is now, big but not outrageously big. (,,,)=^__^=(,,,)Game Latte Vidcast |

From everything that has been released about Aion i think it will make a pretty big stand and a really big impact on the MMO comunity, Now i am giving the devs a chance to prove that it is not just another asian grindfest ( though they havnt said much on how they plan to do that, besides in depth quests and story lines), the story line so far looks pretty dynamic, and the "story" will differ from server to server pending on the actions of the players (really cool). will it hit #1? possible, i doubt it, at least there will be no hurricane Aion like there was with WoW, ,the NCsoft fanbase is huge already due to there other games, but no where near rivaling Blizzards. but so far Aion has a chance, looks promising, as for those bashing the game, isnt it a bit premature to bash it? dont fall for all the hype, but do the research yourself (with the little information that is available). nothing so far makes this game look like crap, it has a beautiful design, the features anounced so far are definetly features that gamers on these forums have been screaming they want. It wont be the GodSend of MMOs, but i think its yet another step in the right direction. |

from what i have read up on it i think it's going to be a good game imo. but like other ppl have said i dont think it will top WOW or WAR both of these titles have so many fans. dont get me wrong im gunna try aion out looks like a great game in the making but im also gunna play WAR like alot of ppl. i think the "asian' games are really looked down on in NA. so aion is gunna have a big up hill fight from the gate. but i think it should be in the top 5 easy as long as they can deliver what they are saying. ncsoft is a powerhouse i think they can pull it off at least i hope they can |

Don't get me wrong Aion is my top game and systemholic Rohan. But I rather a grindfest then questing. Grind is there, quest items not always or they a bitch to get. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty War and AoC will have more features then Aion. Hell even SWG has/had, whatever happened to that pile of junk, more features. Castles sieges were already implemented in Lineage 2 and others. Systemholic rohan and *cough* *cough* darkfall players can build their own cities. Also AoC has environment affecting gameplay, as far as I know Aion will not. Everything that you've just sited is nothing new. As for the wings well thats pretty much it. Where Aion will top everyone is in gfx. Also just look at the customization of characters. Like you said flight will have a major role on how they implemented it. If its like perfect world and its just there to be pretty thats pretty shitty if you ask me. Note: havent following as of late Aion just waiting for release |

Everything is just speculation and interpretation of similar games. Nothing is definite until we actually play the game. They can release new videos and dev interviews but even then its all crap till i play the game. Castle sieges are pretty common but usually the way u go about them are completely different from game to game. Just because they do things other games do doesn't mean anything, cause they could do it so differently that it makes it new. So until alot of ppl actually play the game its all speculation. |

As much as I love arguing with the uninformed ranters that are adamant about this being a typical asian grind when it clearly isn't, it has become quite pointless at this time. Information for this game on mmorpg.com and other fansites is far from thorough and it seems that the dev staff aren't ready to release most of the information in regards to the game. While most of the people that have been here in the Aion forums for months like Gameloading, JJ, and Powerpolk reporting information and browsing other sites for information, many people just don't have that patience.
Honestly if the dev staff aren't ready to start hyping the game more and a more honest release date is closer to Q2 2008 there is a lot of time for the misinformation that circulates to be dispelled. If you guys are going to try to compare Aion where information is scarse and in many cases unconfirmed to games that are already out or soon to be released(WoW, WAR where information and videos are plentiful and people have actually played) expect these comments. I myself think Aion is everything I'm looking for in a game and I'm pretty sure when it comes closer to release the buzz will grow exponentially. So until then don't worry about hype, it is NCsoft's job to worry about that not ours and they know what doing! |
