A Ship in Harbor is safe, but that''s not why Ships are built...

Hi All,

First off I think Tabula Rasa has the potential to be a truly great game.  The only thing I personally find it lacking is this:  No emotional factor.  By that I mean there needs to be something to defend that really matters to me as the character I play.  When I am in game, sure I am having fun, running around doing missions and shooting the hell out of everything... but what am I really defending?  Given I am only at the lower lvls and have not seen the higher lvls to know what I am defending there.  What I hope to see is men, women and children in towns rebuilding a way of life that needs to be defended.  Give me lives to defend against the Bane forces, give me some emotional connection to these creatures besides a backstory of Earth being destroyed.  IMHO there needs to be some emotional factor to make me hungry to log into and play this game.  Is anyone else out there feeling that too?  I'm not bashing the game so don't get me wrong, if it has this in higher lvls that is great.  Give me a reason to be hungry to play this.  :)

So in your opinion a game can be shit at the beginning and then great later, and you'd play it?  Lol.  This game is too easy and its not dynamic in terms of the map changing hands, those bane are too weak and uncoordinated to outsmart players and npc soldiers that are 20 lvls higher then they are, they won't ever take anything or make you feel like you being there even matters.

Its a never ending loop dee loop that favors the AFS even though you see Bane destruction all across the landscape and the storyline says they own the hell outta us but yet we fight them in combat and they get owned, so it must be all talk and no walk for the Bane.

I personally enjoy this games style, and disagree with the op. This game has kept me glued since I started on the closed beta.

TR stopped being of any interest to me when I logged into the Beta and found that there was no 1st person view mode in this "FPS" MMORPG.

So, not for me, thank you very much.

It might just be me, but, the more i watched the videos of the game, the more i thought the graphics looked a lot like arcade type.

The world doesnt look very real, nor do the Bane, .. though it might just be bad video feed and hard to tell until you play the real thing.

Still hoping Fallen Earth comes out soon, to me it looks more like the type of game id be interested in.

wow....

Why do you play?  To kill the god forsaken Bane! They destroyed your world, killed your mother and father and they want to kill you....

It's a war and it is about keeping the Bane at bay and maybe even getting a little payback.  You start as a grunt and you work your way up developing your expertise at killing Bane.  But more then that you are uncovering he lore of the world a bit learning about logos and maybe even something more.

Now I'm only lvl 16 so I'm no  pro and I can't even talk about what lvl 50 is like.  But so far I'm drawn to this game and when I'm playing time flys and I'm constantly wanting to kill just one more bane and take back just one more hill.

I hope that there will be some nice surprises post release and that there is even more lore and depth as I play on.  To read the boards here I'd think this game was a steaming pile of shit but I'm having a great time where I'm burned out on games like WoW.  So this is a breath of fresh air when I'm gasping to find a reason to log on to any other game out there.

For me, when I first started to look into TR was that the Bane were not just standing around waiting to be killed. Unfortunatly, that is exactly what they are doing now. There are a few NPC skirmishes going on, but on the scale of a battle, I don't see it.

Not to take pop shots at people here but just to point out an observation: I've seen that comment by a few people who have XFire signatures, like yours, and they pretty much show the same single digit playtime of the TR beta...Yours, for example, shows a whole one hour this week...Is the XFire signature thing broken perhaps or what?

Xfire only tracks if you have it turned on. I for one know I've put in more than just 3 hours into CoH for the past 7 days.

I Like TR, but I also believe something is missing ......I'm trying to put my finger on what :

Graphics are good, a little on the Guild wars side but I don't care about that. I'm playing to have FUN

Character customizing...everyone looks the same but I don't care about that. I'm playing to have FUN

Some good short Instances is the Wilderness starting area, Fighting every place, Logo system is a good Idea. Game works well for community, everyone is willing to group.

So whats Wrong !!!!!............ I know, the game has to be at least 40% harder thats all. I for one need to feel like I should be prepared every time I walk off a safe area or base or I'll get my ass handed to me. This is why Healers are not needed, every Instance we go to everyone just runs a muck, I'm like "  hay lets stick together " but I find you don't have too its just too easy, I'm not even a power gamer but it still has to be made harder.

I have seen one post some place and someone said that the beta was made easy to get ppl at higher levels fast for testing. I have no Idea where they got that but its sounds good.

Good game, but I'm not too sure I feel like logging in because it has no challenge for now !!

In response to Soldarith, and I understand your viewpoint, I have played way more than an hour in this game. I just went through a hardware change recently, so my xfire was just reinstalled the other day.  Plus, I have heard that many people were having trouble with their xfire sigs lately. I myself get random exceptions from it and my games often crash, so sometimes i just get pissed and turn it off for a while, hoping that the next time I log in, there will be a patch to correct these compatability issues. Half the time I don't have it on anyways.

I agree with the OP... Generally, people like some sort of socialization/community (and it doesn't have to be with real people... ex: FF series have relationships between player-characters and game-characters)...

I think a step forward would be to have ways of effecting the area and actually showing the results as a statistic ( like killing lots enemies in a region will reduce the threats/agressions up to a maximum of some percentage... the idea is that your actions count and has an effect)... And since we're talking about emotions/relationships/attachments to npcs, it would really help if there were branching dialogs and dialogs that reveal the npcs' backstory, emotions/feelings (ex: fears), etc... To bring it further, there could be more specialized mini-quests that is not given to everyone (ex: the already existent quest that involves your experience with the nice-guy who helps his mates get high on drugs); this way different characters/players may end up with more customized/personalized experiences...

The problem with TR is that, even though it has some of the more involving quests, where players get some choice, generally, the quest doesn't go as deep as it can go and it really doesn't lead anywhere; it just ends. As a result, the quest seems very shallow and meaningless...Most, if not all, of the NPCs has this toughness/objectiveness to their expressions/communication and as a result, makes them very distant to any sort of possible player emotions... I certainly feel no emotions in this game. And I think "are you kidding me?" when they demo that Eloh Vale mission, where they say the player has a choice to sacrifice an npc that they've known for awhile and are attached to; heck, I don't even remember the characters when I choose to sacrifice them (The other bad thing is that, there's absolutely no effect/consequence no matter which you choose)...

I really lacked that emotional connection to this game as well. They also need more to do than just run around killing.  I will admit this game did a good job of making me feel like I was in a war. Like a future WWII setting.

The one thing they can do that would make the game so much more appealing to a wider group of people, make the Bane playable with different classes. Like it or not a lot of people like to play the "bad" guys and you can't do it here.

There is a tutorial. It's by no means engrossing, but it gives you the foundation to learn the gameplay.

Does it have Dungeons? I play ArchLord and though you kan "solo" (ppl group for auto-loot) you kan still share xp and hit the dungeon up with a tank + dd combo and level fast as h3ll. You get an XP boost as well and a player status boost.. if a archer if leader +10 defence to all party members, Tank is +10 attack and mage is +HP/MP so you have a number of fairly good reasons to party.

Healing is Auto so no need for heal type, kould use a Lv30 Raise skill though :(

As for TB, I want to try it.. i figured people would be to hyped about it. nothing komes out refined.. needs larg player feed back to find out the right path for its gamers.

Do you have to pay to play? I havent checked.. I know you need to at least buy the game... so is it just another grind game with different colors?

Is there a crafting syste, ingame housing.. and solid content to keep players from getting bored arond lv30+ or 50+

I thought it would be like a mini-halo with a RPG twist :D

Games I've Played: SilkRoad, Flyff, NeoCron, PlanetSide, Rapplez, UpshiftRacer, Drift City, TB, Kwonho, ArchLord, AoA, Exteel, WolfTeam, Shaiyan, WoKF, FFXIV

Games I'm Playing: NeoCron, Mabinogi,

Games I'm Pondering: SWTOR

Yes TR has dungeons.  They are more like caves or instanced areas.

You can solo in TR although in instances it requires that you be a lot more careful or you wait till you are high enough lvl.  In TR you get an xp boost from killing non stop.  As you kill mobs you get an xp multiplier this can go as high as 6x.

I don't know how xp in a group works.

Healing is not automatic you need to use a healing tool or a armor repair tool  Armor works like extra HP and regens like HP.

Yes you need to pay to play once the game is released.

All games are grinding of one sort or another.  I think it feels less grindy then some games since there is a lot of action.

There is a crafting system in the game now but it is pretty unbalanced but with the addon and ability to decomp equipment it does look like it has potential.  However spending skill points to develop crafting skills will be a hard thing to do.  I'm guessing through you can just sacrafice a clone to be a crafter.  Since your trunk (bank) is shared with all your characters it is easy to exchange stuff.

There is no housing.

I'm only lvl 17 so I don't know what the content is like at 30-50 but the content in the game so far seems pretty fun.

It is an RPG with some FPS thrown in.  You fight by aiming but the aiming is by default pretty sticky so it isn't to hard to hit things without a lot of aiming.  Personally I like it and thing it is a good balance that works well.  I hate having to really aim and like the way it works in TR.  However if you don't like the stickiness you can change it in the options to be less sticky or not at all.
