I saw something about the graphic and engine change coming with Kunark. As I remember it, they said there would be much smoother gameplay and reduced resource requirements. My gaming desktop computer is pretty solid (3.0ghz Core2Duo with 3 gb PC-8400, Raptor SATA Drive, and an 8800 Ultra), so I shouldn't have any worries there. But I was wondering about my laptop(2.1 ghz Pentium with 1 gb memory and integrated graphics.) I was able to seamlessly play LOTRO on my laptop, but I never was able to play EQII on it in the past. I was hoping when Kunark comes out I will finally be able to play EQII on my laptop. Anyone have any links I could look at that will point me to the changes to find out?
Thanks in Advance.

The only thing I know is about the skeletal revamp that should also increase performance. I haven't heard anything official about engine changes apart from that. About the skeletal revamp, you can read more here: http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/posts/list.m?&topic_id=373678
As stated in that topic the kunark in Rise of the Kunark will be the first race that will use the new skeletal revamp, it's not sure yet if the whole revamp will be done by that time. As far as I know the new system will also introduce new models for all races, which will probably mean the old ones will dissapear. (since the new armors wont work on them.) Apart from this there have been rumors about a new map system, combat music, guild housing. I would expect maybe some engine tweaks, but no other major engine changes. However it would be very welcome if they did ofcourse :) |

I do not remember, however, weither or not the video was posted officialy on MMORPG.com or by a member. |

Yep, thanks. That's what I saw. I guess I'll dig around in the forums here on the site.
I was actually a little worried about myself. I thought I might have dreamed it . Having dreams about developers is probably some sort of warning sign.

My sister in law has a friend who designed one of the lvl 75-80 zones and she got her account flagged to try it out and I saw no performance enhancements. In fact, the game ran just the same as it always has which is sluggish compared to WoW. She never played it more than 5-10 minutes though since she is playing WoW full time now and we're all basically done with eq2. Although I think eq2 has better combat and feels a bit more complex while playing it over wow, Wow has a lot less lag and the enviroment/ particle engines are way better. Eq2 is a better game but has way less people playing it. WoW is still way better optimized and looks better except the player models still suck imo but the world lighting/design and layout is 100x better. |

Except a few smaller things. I can agree that WoW do run smoother, but you can't really compare the technical graphic quality between those two games. -- |
