Alright I have played my fair share of MMORPG's from the Realm Online to Star wars galaxies to WoW and now Lord of the rings.....I want to know if anyone knows of an MMORPG like Star wars galaxies Pre-NGE this involves:
it seems like all MMORPGs out there now make you be one class don't let you have player run cities or even own your own house. And all these games revolve around raiding which is stupid due to the fact if your not in a good guild and high up on the social structure of the guild your not going to be able to do anything.....Any suggestions I will be glad to hear back |

WoW has the farming thing, most all games have the farming thing....nothing is endless though, as soon as you got your PVP gear, you pvp...it seems like you want to be pvp'ing so...

Yes but that really doesn't help with a game out there that involves all of them maybe I'm dreaming but Pre-NGE SWG was the greatest MMORPG out there it had all aspects one looks for in a game and Is there even anything close in that aspect to it out there because im getting bored with Lord of the Rings not enough change its all the same no matter who you are or what you want to do |

Gonna go with the cop out answer and say UO, because honestly, you can do pretty much anything in it. I dont play anymore because I dont care to learn their new system and wish it would all go back to the way it was years upon years ago, where you had to worry about traveling to unknown areas because you could be killed and lose all of your goodies. Other than that, you may be dreaming, quality is a thing that seems to be overlooked these days, along with carebearism. I was never the type to go kill random newbies, but I loved the thought that going to a cave could end up in me losing all of my gear or following a guy to his store outside of town could have lead to an ambush that could end my life. Too bad they mucked up UO and it is nothing like it was. |

So you are saying there isn't a single game out that is even close to the original SWG.....you would have to think since it was such a big game someone stole some of the important concepts behind the game that they found necessary to change.....well i guess ill keep waiting for my game to be released and deal with Lord of the rings for the time being |

The closest game out there to what you want is what many Pre CU players are playing is The Saga Of Ryzom. It does have some of the features SWG had missing like player houses. But the game is a large scale and allows for Sand box leveling which means you could litterally be every class in the game at once. There's an unlimited free trial at www.ryzom.com go check it out. If your really stuck it has to be worth a try. :) |

OP.. a small word of advice, stop looking for something like it, and stop comparing games to it. accept each individual game for what it actually IS rather than what it's not or lacking. for over two years after the cu i bounced from game to game hoping to find the closest game to the old swg. it does not exist. the combat does not exist, the crafting does not exist, the leveling does not exist, and the communities that made swg what it was do not exist. there's "similar" features, but all they do is make you think how they can be improved to be like how swg WAS.

Apart from that first point, SWG still has all that. While it's not the pre-nge skill mixup, all professions now have expertise trees that at lets you customise the profession to a way you like. |

Originally posted by Obraik First of all my main fun in SWG on bria except of being one of the 8 jedi knights of the server that actually went through the horrible grind before Patch 9 was crafting, since there is no Item decay Crafting is out, since the population on pretty much every server has gone to atleast 50% of what it used to be, Cantina dancers that are active for example can only be found in Mos eisley so Selling stuff to newcomers is out. What SWG is now is a complete Tooooool game of what it used to be but to my great misfortune ive become abit intrested in vanguard which is a SOE game full of bugs .. ring any bells ? I miss the part where i could travel out to my Mining facilitys and retrieve the unique ore for that week that existed in the area, bring it home to my Construction facilitys to make parts and ingredients for what was later to become a finished product or a bi product that was going to be a essential product in creating the finished one. Oh and by the way the old Jedi knight grind took about half a year to complete before the game had it's age limit reduced to 8. SWG Bria Light Jedi Knight Awok Pre Patch 9. |

I agree, every game I have played since, has not come close to the old SWG. I would gladly give soe my money if they would reproduce it....but it seems they dont want it. |

So SOE royally screwed over the best idea i think for a MMORPG and not one game has copied their skill tree system.......since i enjoyed SWG is the NGE as bad as it was when it was released or have they done anything at all to change it from being a game for 5 year olds? |

To the original author: most of us agree that SWG arguably was (pre-NGE) and/or could have been the greatest game of all time (online or otherwise) so we feel your pain. Now (PC online): Eq2, Vanguard, Planetside, SWG |

Yes Ryzom adopts a skill tree system very similar to that of Pre CU. There are no levels only titles, which are gained through unlocking different stanza's within the skill tree's, you can also play as anything you like with no limitations, meaning you could be a tank one minute but change to a healer mid fight, it's a very free-form well produced game. |

I tried going back to SWG but the combat just seemed far too clumsy now. ______________________________ WAR is coming. Look busy. |

Originally posted by xxthecorexx old SWG will never be again... it sucks, but it's the truth. We can now only hope to catch pieces of that experience in other games, and hope new games will also give us something new and awesome that delivers what we wished old SWG would have been. the game wasn't perfect, wasn't even close, but it was still very good. also, at times very, very horrible. Originally posted by Ustoc SWG is currently still horrible. In my opinion, outside of being less buggy than when the NGE went live, gameplay is actually worse. The characters still run around like they are on crack, and now the human and Zabrak avatars look like long term crack users. They added about the worst implementation of a target lock that could be implemented in a game with a pseudo FPS combat system. The developers have added such integral Star Wars items as D&D style familiars! The talent system is a direct rip off of WoW's talent system, to the point where they actually copied WoW's talent UI. Lag is as bad as it ever has been. You can now get the pre-NGE slideshow experience of the Theed starport with less than ten players in a single area, should any of them be engaged in combat. Even the most adamant defenders of the game feel the need to download mods, which are against the EULA, to make the game feel more like the game used to be. But don't worry, the developers are going to be adding EQ2's collection system, along with 'Heroic' MOBs. The new MOBs will require a large group of players to kill, so if you do find yourself lobotomized to the point where you actually do decide to give the game a try, if you're very nice to the mass of gold sellers spamming in front of some of the starports, you might be able to convince them to group with you to try and take out one of the new MOBs, since it will be hard to find enough people to fill a single group on most servers. SWG, as it currently is, is quite honestly the worst MMO I've ever played. I logged in for the most recent vet trial a few weeks ago. I didn't expect to like it, but I really didn't expect it to be worse than when I quit. It was though.
