Those who are wondering if they should try this, or need something to read while they're waiting for their 2.5gbs of game to download look no further.

Well let me just say, starting off I was amazed to hear the voice acting. Not that it's a difficult thing to pull off, it just let me know that this game has a larger budget than I originally anticipated. They let you know who you are and what you are doing. I found it easy to submerse myself into the story.

When I first got to controlling my character I enjoyed it. It felt very natural. I was reading on some other post earlier from this wanna-be troll saying it was click to move? it's definitely wasd. The animations are fluid and everything feels good.

My system is about average. It's a laptop, but a somewhat expensive laptop. I wont go to list specs because laptop specs are a bit different. However, I can play BF2142 on medium settings flawlessly, if that's any kind of benchmark.

It automatically put me on the low res mode. I found that my fps were  either perfect, or it was 2fps. Which was a little frustrating, especially when i was battling.

If you compare and try to relate this game to other known online games... I would say that it's 2 parts "Rakion" and 1 part "World of Warcraft" a lot of people are getting angry with comparing this game to WoW, but there are a few similarities that you just can't ignore....

Like the NPCs that give out quests have "!" above their heads, and I'm sorry but WoW trademarked that. (except they're not called quests in this game, i forget what they call them)

Or the mailboxes that bare a striking resemblance to WoWs... scratch that. The entire mail system bares a striking resemblance. and many more things I don't care to go on about.

I would say the whole skill clicking thing can be compared to WoW as well... however, that's 95% of mmorpg's these days (a sad age we live in indeed). I will admit though, with the speed of the game skill clicking in this game though does feel a touch different.

Basically... after the tutorial, the game revolves around sitting in a lobby, waiting for battles. You complete battles to gain items and level up. There are a few different kinds of battles. Also, you never sit in that lobby for longer than 5 minutes.

My ending thoughts? I would say it's worth to try. Personally I liked it . However, It's a pretty demanding game system usage wise, I wish I had a perfect system to enjoy this better. If my system could handle the game better, I would probably purchase it. I have a feeling that some people are going to either hate this game or love it. You really need to try it for yourself to see.

It's definitely a nice refreshing step away from the endless WoW instances and Asian grindfest games that seem to pollute this market today. However, I'm still going to be waiting for The Chronicles of Spellborn to take me away from that. =)

Nice & honest review by someone for a change. Thanks.

I wanted to add a little tip regarding fps.

You do need to tweak your settings a lot and I didn't now about this till recently but the tooltips that appears when you mouse over your toolbar actually make your fps go from 60 to 30 (-30fps). Theres an option to turn these off when in battle which will save you some fps.

Check your fps ingame by typing:

\stat fps

Also if you don't like bloom effect you can turn it off gaining you some more fps possibly:

\show postprocess

Lots of improvements recently to the game performance with the latest patch.

You do still need a decent system and comparing performance stats with WOW is a bit daft as WoW doesn't run on the Unreal3 Engine.

Any Core2Duo with 2 GB Ram & min 256Mb Gfx-card should have no problems.

Now is definately the time to test drive this game if you are even slightly interested.

The only resemblance it bears to world of warcraft as opposed to a general and commonly used features (example, hot bar, mailbox, wasd, ! mark), is that it has battle grounds (aka warzones) and imbalanced archetypes.

The rest is pretty much common. For example, there really are no quest, they are trials and all they do is unlock a memory. So you dont really do anything except pay the cost with fury points, and then click unlock memory. The mailboxes are mailboxes. Mailboxes look like mailboxes, its not a WoW thing.

If anything, the game is unreal tournament. The warzones are similar, the concept is similar, only difference is you pick your skills and use a hot bar, buy items and kill some more.

The game definately needs optimization, as it shouldnt be that much of a resource hog for what it is. I dont have any problems with my rig, but I see some taking 3 minutes just for their war zones to load, and by that time they are already dead.

Nice review though, however i disagree with the reasons for it looking like WoW, as wow has merely made popular designs that were already used before.

I felt it more like Guild Wars than Rakion. I'm playing it, and thoroughly enjoying right now. I was told pay will be optional but it will not be a pay-only system.

In game however, your ranks don't really pay tribute to what skills people have and whatnot since you can downrank, thats the one issue. Think of a wow player with level 70 skills scaled down to level 30...looks it(AKA mentoring in EQ2)....but they're still way stronger than the average level 30.

That happens up until you reach the peak in that game, at which point its 100% skill and combinations (ala guildwars)....which I love. However, this game isn't that optimized yet and it KILLS any pc at the moment due to that. People with 8800GTX's don't get that great of FPS off of this game. I have an 8600GT with an E6700 and this game demolishes my computer (dont think I've broken 40FPs anywhere).

However, balance is good, unlocking skills is interesting, its a different system that has some nice balance. Also not having restrictions as to what class can you which skills is some great flexibility.

woah there, i agree with most of your post, but no the balance is not good right now. The latest patch buffed death ability physical attacks while nerfing the life focus ability.

The top players right now are pretty much all fire or air melee players, some hitting for over 1.2k... its amazing how imbalanced the game is right now.

It is fun in a sense depending on which archtype you  play, but also its not fun for those who want to be something that gets them killed with no chance.

Trust me, after playing for awhile... even with the character wipe, you start to see the severe problems with the game, balance being one of them, and hope they get fixed.

Actually, water based physical abilities were toned down slightly, and some water spiritual abilities were made stronger. Heals like Mend now start with slightly lower numbers to counter how strong they were in early-game combat, but they now get more powerful than before as you rank up.

Fire damage across the board was tweaked slightly upwards by 7.5%. This includes spiritual fire damage abilities, not just the melee, and not just from the death school. All in all, one side of physical damage was slightly increased, and another side decreased. Spiritual classes got a buff across the board.

If you are going to complain, at least get your facts right! ;)

So you are saying then the game is balanced? lol

My facts were correct according to certain posts seen on the Fury site (and you just confirmed them with a lil more detail). Life heals and a few spells i saw were lower than when i had them before the wipe. The fire dmg did not need the buff, and melee has too many abilities and dps to choose otherwise usually. also  dont recall champions being that strong enough to deserve the nerf if what you say is true.

Im not complaining as much as stating a simple fact. The games balance is shit right now.  You have actually managed to make it worse.
