Question for Rick Saada: Has the NDA Been Lifted? The reason I ask, is because numerious threads on this forum seem to be giving out a great deal of "Closed BETA" information. If it has been lifted, GREAT!

I don't believe the NDA has been lifted nor has a release day been set. All that has been said is that they're looking for this Autum for a release and we'll get some solid info on "Talk like a pirate day", which I believe is this or next month. I call upon the godly powers of RickSaada to answer these questions in full!

NDA is still in effect. Release date information being held up by European distribution. They plan on doing a simultanious release in Europe/US so everything needs to be nailed down before the date comes out. Rusty has said however when you DO get a release date. It will be rock solid, 0% chance of changing. |

Looks like others have already covered this, but to recap: 1. The NDA has NOT been lifted 2. We haven't announced a ship date 3. We plan on having more information for you by Talk Like a Pirate Day. Sept 19th. 4 If I tell you anything, Rusty will have me BBQ'd (we're in Texas for the Austin Game Developer's Conference) I'm in a talk on Cheats, Speed Hacks, and Dupes, learning more about how to keep you pirates in line... I think the cause for some people to seemingly break the NDA is that FLS has been continuing to allow many people to play their game at gameshows like PAX and when these people get to test the game for a few minutes they are not under any NDA and can freely discuss their short experience later. Play as your favorite retro characters: www.cnd-online.net and read my blog: creatingaworld.blogspot.com/ |

Originally posted by Gozzar Well, we do, obviously. There's a difference between somebody talking about the few minutes of play they got at a trade show (which we don't mind), and people who are in the beta talking about it freely (which we do mind). The whole point of a closed beta is that it's testing on incomplete software, which may still need tuning, bug fixing, or be missing features. As such it's not really appropriate for public comment, or for public judging. We have beta forums for that so we can get the feedback we need to improve the game and prepare it for public consumption. That doesn't mean that we need all our dirty laundry aired in public, which is exactly what would happen if we didn't have an NDA. In the end, it's better for us, the game, and the gaming community to have people judge the game based on its shipping state than on the comments of someone playing an unfinished product. Originally posted by Kilivin Sorry, jargon for those of us who've been around a while. An NDA is a Non-Disclosure Agreement. It's the document we make you sign before you go into the beta that states that you won't reveal what you see to those not in the beta, won't talk to the press, won't post screen shots etc. It's standard fare for closed betas, and since it can be legally binding for those under 18, it's the reason that we don't allow minors into the beta. Originally posted by RickSaada but, with no nda, you'd have people talking about the game and all the problems that get fixed and how quickly they get fixed, how much the devs love the community, etc. i'd think that'd outweight people being impatient to know about a game. that's my opinion on it anyways and how i feel. could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please? |
