Originally posted by NoanWhat is that based on? You have zero foundation for that. Besides, TR isn't crap. It's "okay". All previously released games from the development studio developing AION (not the same one as TR or AA) have been instant hits - even if this one gameplay-wise is going to be different.

Looks like Aion has jumped a few spots in the hype meter. Good! Hopefully they will release a good amount of info at TGS. |

they're not going to tokyo this year, dont think they did last year either (i read it on aionsource). That show is mostly about console games anyway.

Why do you care about Hype so much? If this game will be good a lot of people will come to play it. Can't really get importance of hype at all. ______________________________________ |

I think a person enjoys that a game he follows has a high hype for the following reasons: * It helps showing you're right when you speak only good of the game, as others are likely to do so aswell. * It's a ridiculous part of the ever-going "which game is better?" feud, even though it doesnt indicate anything worth noticing. * It shows that others are following and anticipating the game too. * It shows that other people have seen the good things about the game. * It could help the developers realize "heck, we must be doing something right". ...and probably many more reasons. The flaw is that it's not really representative of anything except for this little community's fanboism's current focus. :) I could care less however, as i keep coming back.

Originally posted by Caladon It's very, very hard to believe that koreans can make a good game. RF Online had my hopes to be a good one and then failed, ArchLord did the same, LA2 too, then Cabal. They failed too many times. ______________________________________ |

Originally posted by NoanSo you're saying western games can't fail? What happened to Vanguard? Matrix Online? Auto Assault? Dark & Light? Generalizing eastern developed games is as bad as generalizing western games.
The only thing that is important here is that Aion is developed also for a western, casual audience, whereas the most (I would believe all) of the ones you mentioned above were not. The developers have stated time after time how they have been made aware of modern players' demands on content, story and depth in games. Because RF Online was a shallow "cookie cutter" grinder, doesn't mean Aion will be. Just as Dark & Light which was a buggy horror from hell doesn't mean Age of Conan will be. Perpetual made the not-very-successful DDO, but returned with LOTRO. Despite of what we think of the individual cases presented by me here, generalization is bad. So let's refrain from it. I hope we're better than that.
And as always, "good" is subjective.

Originally posted by NoanIf you want to have fair judgement of the entire korean market then yes, I suggest trying them all. Basing your opinion of hundreds of games when you played (possibly) less than 1% of them is a bit silly. About success well if you're talking about quality then that is your opinion and you're entitled to it, but if based on profit and success, then that is just plain wrong. The korean MMO market is much larger and advanced than the western MMO market. MMORPG's are the most important genre in korea, sort of like what First Person Shooters are in the west. There are several korean MMO's that made it past 1 million subscribers. There has only been 1 western MMORPG that ever made it past 1 million subscribers (WoW ofcourse) |

Originally posted by Gameloading Good post! Now I know one thing for sure, my brain works in different way then korean's, if they have MMOs that look close to RF, ArchLord and others. Also I can't try to play other korean MMOs because they block IPs. Was unable to play RF, they blocked my IP by saing I'm not in korea or something untill I solved it. The thing is I judge by games I'm allowed to play. ______________________________________ |
