I havent gotten a real adrenaline rush from playing a MMORPG since i played Helbreath. Ive attained the #3 rank in the Arena system in WoW, and have done alot of PvE aswell, and havent attained anything like that. Not even in world PvP... Which i think is the place you may get it, as you might get jumped while killing a monster, and suddenly have to tackle 2 tasks at once. But yeah, definetly PvP, if done well. Killing multiple players of the same level, executing everything you have at your disposal with perfection and loving yourself afterwards when you realise how goddam good you are. For me being a rogue in WoW was a hoot, the feeling you get of ganking a mage amidst all of his friends and then escaping with the same speed as you dispatched him. O_o o_O |

Playing FFXI camping NMs is far from exciting, but my heart always starts racing when i see it up on Widescan and there's a mad dash to claim. Usually lasts til the mob dies and the item doesn't drop . _ . There is no best MMORPG, only favorites. |

PvP battles in Eve online. Imagine you and your team warping in to a battle with expensive ships with expensive modules. If you die you lose all of your stuff. If you win you can salvage the enemys loot. But there is more. Its not just a fight for a bit of loot. Its a fight between huge alliances for domination of space. The fight is happening in a solarsystem for its control. The winner gains hold of the system, the loser has to fallback and regain strength. The battle has a meaning and will change the landscape of the universe. Now imagine you being with 400 people in a voice tool fighting against another 400 player fleet. The fleet commanders are giving out last overall commands, the scouts are reporting movements from neighbouring systems, the enemy is smack talking in local chat, the covert ops are moving in position on the battlefield. Then the fight starts. We only have got this one chance, there is no coming back. Its now or never. --- |

Originally posted by cupertinoHehe, I understand you. Maybe the upcoming upgrade with avatars on stations/ships could interest you. (stations with shops, bars, casinos). You can walk around like in your typical fantasy game, speak with friends, play poker in a bar, etc. Its a social tool called ambulation and is coming 2008 (early I hope). About the fleet fight: I overdid it a bit. Smaller fights are great, but the big ones tend to have too much lag which is a fun killer. --- |

As much as I avoid PVP in most MMOs I have to say it was 2 strictly PVP MMOs that really got my blood pumping., WW2 Online and Planetside. Also, EQ2 used to get my blood pumping back when you could be killed if you travelled to far and the nights were pitched black and you had to run back to get your corpse. |

Originally posted by Greatness I would also say L2 but not the castle sieges as much as the unexpected PvP that would happen while leveling. In sieges the PvP was expected and anticipated but out in the wilds when you're just hunting and you all of a sudden get hit with an unexpected spell or arrow the adrenaline level goes through the roof. These were the times when you had to react quick or death would soon follow. It was the fact that you constantly had to keep an eye on your back that kept me coming back for more.

For me pvp does the trick. Mostly when playing a caster class or with someone else with low def but good dmg. Having a near death experience seems do give me an adrenaline rush.

Only Ultima Online has given me that real Adrenaline Surge and I've tried a lot of other MMO's. From the moment you leave a city you start to get that adrenaline surge, though it is when you approach & enter a dungeon that it spikes (it really spikes when someone run's past you yelling "pk" and seconds later you see a group sweeping the dungeon). It is item loss coupled with the unpredictable nature of pvp (trammel screwed that up) that made the game the single most intense MMO on the market (PvE is and always will be lame compared to PvP). Shadowbane is / was second to the extent that if you die you loose everything in your back-pack (not the items you are wearing) though . |

Nothing PvE gives me an adrenaline surge either. The only times I felt twitchy was after PVP in Granado Espada and playing a tournament in Albatross 18. |

I'm afraid that there's only really one MMO these days that can give me an adrenaline surge. EVE Online. As frustrating as harsh death penalties may be, they do a great job at ensuring a kick@ss adrenaline surge when you watch days, weeks or even months of hard work being blasted to bits and pieces. I'm a big ol' fluffy carewolf. Be afraid. Be very afraid. |

Originally posted by elocke I have played many MMORPGs, both good and bad, but the only game that actually gave me that adrenaline rush was Dark Age of Camelot RvR combat. Just stepping out into your own Frontier or into the enemy Fronter was a real rush, fraught with danger and very exciting. This is the reason I am hoping EA Mythic's Warhammer Online will be well made and offer some of those good old RvR thrills and chills.

Pushing the envelope in terms of what you do a dungeon or a particular area with. Full groups are for suckers. |

Wouldn't it be amazing if you could recreate the Splinter Cell multiplayer feeling in an MMO? I'm sure most of you have played or at least know about Splinter Cell.. The 2v2 multiplayer games are just insane for getting the adrenaline pumping. Hiding in the shadows and trying to trick the mercenaries to get out the way... Then running in and trying to hack a computer. I haven't played a multiplayer game since that beats that feeling. It would be cool to have stealth classes in a game that really is DIFFICULT to play, but deadly if you let them trick you. Probably wouldn't work to Splinter Cell's extent... But I'm sure someone could get it working at least to the extent Oblivion has. As far as MMO experiences... it's almost always PvP that really gets my adrenaline pumping. Most PvE situations you can read about to find surefire tactics, or you can just use trial and error. With PvP, trial and error doesn't work because your opponent can adapt their game all the time. When my guild's town on SWG got attacked by Jedi pre-CU during the peak of "Fight Clubbing"... That was kinda frustrating, but equally terrifying... definitely got my heart beat going. Especially seen as I was Pistoleer / Bounty Hunter and couldn't even dream of hitting them (Uber saber block) Lots of SWG moments have been unrivaled WoW is fun the first few tens of times you play Battlegrounds / Arena... But it does start to get old. World PvP in WoW is seriously lacking (due to BGs and Arena really...) And I think World PvP has great room for creativity and therefore, longevity. MMOs played (In order of how much I've liked them): Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Vanguard, City of Villains / Heroes, Guild Wars, Warhammer Online, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa, Anarchy Online, Ryzom, Final Fantasy XI, Matrix Online, RF Online, Rappelz, Hero Online, Roma Victor |
