"The funny thing about driving off a cliff, is that I bet you''re still hitting those brakes."

I played AC2 basically from day 1 until it shut down, except for a few random months when I would take breaks.  I tested DDO because it looked like AC2, only to find it a huge dissapointment and take a bunch of SS's of me uninstalling the game  to post on the beta forum.  Is AC1 anything like AC2? My only fear is that starting an MMO up once it's been out so long, I would be the only low level guy running around.

The things I miss about AC2: Community, Portal Travel (perfect balance of running around and being able to port), tons of buffs that actually did something, Vaults, and a non-instanced world. I loved leving up from the start, crank through the first few vaults until L12, Do your Drudgebane, Shreth, Bound Fets, Beach, vault, hero, then the isle.  It seemed repetitive but it was real fun.

Remember in the real old days when you could lev from 1 to 30 something in an hour from a high lev running you through a few quests? Camping gearknights until 40ish then PvPing your life away (hooray Reap + Melee Sage) lol, yay bugs.

As part 2 of the post, Why don't they re-release AC2? They've revamped the engine with DDO & LotRO, which is the main thing that brought AC2 down.

Feel free to talk about the game too, it's always awesome remembering random stuff haha.  Did any of you play on Harvestgain?

You probably won't like AC1 since most AC1 players hated AC2 because it was so different. About the only features the two games shared was lore, a few characters, and a few monsters.

The skill system is different. There are no vaults. There are no mounts. The crafting is totally different. Humans are the only playable race. There are portals and portal space. There are buffs, but they aren't exactly the same. There are only a few instances. There's a 14 day free trial, you can still give it a shot.

Relauching AC2 is a horrible idea. Nothing changed to make people play. Engine improvements are not going to make the game a huge success.

Im just like you - played AC2 for a very long time and enjoyed it very much. Actually, i missed it so much I made a PnP Roleplaying game of it, which me and my friends currently play . After the shutdown I started playing AC1, its a good game, its actually a very good game, just not as good as AC2. The thing is -  If you started with AC2, you wont find AC1 as enjoyable...and it works the other way around aswell.

The things that put me off AC1 after awhile (putting the graphics aside) were the controls and the fact that the AC1 fans bragged about the total freedom in character development, which I found only half true. Fact is - you cant play a pure melee character like you could in AC2. Third - if you liked Tumerokes and lugians as much as i did, you will find a big empty hole which you are unable to fill, nomatter how long you play. Also I never got that scared wth-is-going-on feeling i got in AC2, specially on the Omishan beach when Buruns spawned on your ass - screaming "I'll Dance on your grave!" Mainly because in AC1 you could take on many critters at once.

another thing i miss from AC2 was the humorous way critters died or acted (goes for all games i have played since AC2) The whiney platoon death of the Drudge comes to mind

All in all, AC1 is worth trying. solid game with loads of content and helpful community. If you didnt like it - atleast you can say: been there - done that! hehe

good luck

It doesnt really matter which one you pick - just aslong you stay clear from Wintersebb and Verdantine, which have the lowest population.

Darktide have hightest ppl count from which i heard, but i wouldnt start on a FFA PvP server if I were you

Darktide has the most, but it's PvP. All the other regular servers are fairly close, except for VT. I wish they would turn VT into an all PKL server.

Actually, you can make a pure melee in ac1.  It isn't easy, but as you play, you can pick up armor and jewelry that contain the buffs you need.  You can also pick up gems with buffs in them to cover the buffs you don't have in your armour.I have a level 99 dagger boy that is pure melee on darktide.

I'm not sure what you mean about "liking tumy's and lugians, but if you mean killing them, there are areas that I grind in for xp's that are filled with them.

I miss AC2.... I played AC1 for 6 years up til AC2. I was one of the many players who left AC1 for AC2 and really enjoyed it. The games were nothing alike.. in the concept of AC1 was more so of a RP game, and AC2 being more of a PvP aspect. I really wish AC2 would come back, I loved it. I played on HG - FF - DT. I don't think Turbine would go for putting any more money back into AC2 to bring it back. The game will remain dead for as long as it sits in my closet. Though I was one of few players who highly enjoyed it. But if it ever came back, WoW will be dropped instantly. But until then maybe a similiar MMO will come out.

AC

I believe for non PvP MT and SC are the highest populations. MT is in MHO the best. I mean I've always played there I had tried VT and SC and DT. But never had as much fun as I did on MT. I was reading a few things on other forums when I came back to the game after 2 year absense seems like Morningthaw is the server that does everything first or dies trying lol.

Tumeroks were definitely my favorite race to play. The Feral Intendant was the best melee class in the game until they took the nerfbat to it. I also liked the Tummie Healer and Invoker (the pet was a great damage dealer). The Lugian Tactitian was a great class too. Totally unique class that I've never seen in any other MMO.

I enjoyed the fact that the tummies used drums to cast spells. You could find others to play music with if you were standing around. The wide variety of instruments were great too. I heard LoTRO actually uses instruments. Running Moars was cool too. It was one of the few quests that you could run for others who didn't even have to be present for it to be completed. There were a lot more hunting quests too than I see in other MMO's, like Fets. That's where the entire fellowship went hunting for a Bound Fetish Spawn to start the quest.  How about touching tombs? The object wasn't to fight but to use your mount and touch the tomb while trying not to get killed.

Man this game brings back memories. The vaults were great. They told the storyline of the game with an actual voice narrating the story.  I loved the way you could mule too. You could actually drop loot on the ground without it disappearing. How about the straw drudges where you could practice your weapons and spells and see what they could do. Anyone else dive off the Deru tree? You did about 5 flips and if you hit the river right you wouldn't die.

AC2 is undoubtedly the MMO I miss the most (and I've tried many of the games on the list to the left).

Me and a few friends of mine miss AC2 quite a bit as well. Since it was shut down ive tried nearly every mmo and none compared. I loved the pvp! I was on HG and the community was so small that everyone knew everyone. Ill never forget all the 1 on 1's and the portal camping. Theres actually someone trying to make a private AC2 server and hes been somewhat successful from what ive read.

I miss AC2 as well. No other game has been able to scratch the same itches that AC2 did for me yet. I wish they'd open an AC2 server for LotRO subscribers or something.

It's sad when you fight goblins in LOTRO sometimes. They use the same voice they used for the drudges in AC2. I guess they copied it over. "Get him!" and that laugh they had is now with the goblins. I love it, but I miss AC2 at the same time.

The person who did the voice for the vaults does the voice in LOTRO as well. Well it sure sounds like him.

I loved AC2 like nothin' else. Nothing I've played since stacks up to it. For me anyway. I came here to ask the same question the OP did.

To find out AC1/2 are so different is disappointing. AC2 just had a certain feeling to it. The environment was great, as well as the enemies and few live events that happened.

here's hoping it somehow comes back...

I think I would be playing AC2 right about now. After playing WoW and not going too much of that and the other options either too system specced heavy or just old AC2 would be great. Shame its gone.

I'm very interested in shut down games and was just wondering why? Why did it close down instead of AC 1? It closed right about the time I got into MMO's so I feel in the dark and like I've missed something wonderful.

It was pushed out too early and was not ready for release.  By the time they fixed it, it had already lost its player base.  They later admitted that it was foolish to compete with their own game by releasing a sequel, especially when the sequel was nothing like the original as the players had hoped for.

AC1 was doing nothing but making them profit, and still is.  They've more than made up the production costs of the game since it has been out so long.  AC2 was simply unable to make up for the costs and was costing them more than what was coming in.  It didn't make much sense to keep it going since it wasn't making a profit anymore.

Frostfell Has the highest population of the PVE servers. We have the most people of any server, I got a character on every server and log in to each with Decal and see what populations are during certain times for fun and FF server definately has the most on.
