Hasn't WoW, EQ and EQ2 already been destroyed and stomped into the earth by Vanguard? Sorry but I went into a coma this time last year and have just awoke, I'm rather shocked that there are so many MMOs still around! What has happened? Has Brad Mcquaid bought everyother MMO including SOE? How much fun is station ambulation in EVE? Why haven't they moved DFO to released games? And how many millions are playing SWG now? Incase you couldn't tell I'm being sarcastic, I don't like Fantasy nor do I like WoW but I don't see any game destroying it.

At this point they could lose thousands of players even a few million players and it will do what mmorpgs before them have done. Combine servers and continue on.None of the games mentioned have the potential to repeat the happening of wow at this point and time. |

I'm just speculating of course...but who knows |

I dunno, 9 million subscribers kinda says that, yes, it is the best. It's kinda like what kids are being taught in school, there are no losers only winners, when in fact there are losers. You don't see college or pro football teams throwing scoreboards out the window cause everyone's a winner do you? lol.

Originally posted by Gameloading I sometimes like to sit back in my chair by the crackling wood fire on an evening, sipping a Brandy and smoking a good cigar reminiscing about old and long gone fanbois. Sometimes it's Auto Assault, sometimes Vanguard, sometimes NGE with a little EVE thrown in for good measure. I distinctly remember one Vanbois who stated in no uncertain terms that Vanguard was going to be the biggest MMORPG for the next three years atleast! Sigil would bring Blizzards online division to its knees and crush all hopes of AoC and WAR, Brad Mcquaid would rule as the Emperor of MMORPGs and all would pay him tribute. I really wish I was exagerating but I'm not, some people get so caught up in the wet dreams they have about unreleased games that reality goes AWOL for a while. Such as the constant WoW killer threads being posted by a wannabe MMO Nostrodamus, WoW will die when people stop playing it for whatever reason. I doubt another game will "kill" it but we should just humour the AoC and WAR fanbois for now, until the games are released and their common sense is recaptured! I'm waiting for PotBS anyway and I predict with 100% certainty that it will not kill WoW nor get over 1 million subs nor will Russel Williams (FLS CEO) get voted as supreme commander of planet earth declare world peace then challenge the Klingons for interstellar domination! An initial playerbase of 1-200k with a polished product would be good enough for this rabid fanbois!

Anyone heard of Red5 Studios (http://www.red5studios.com)? Former blizz employees including team lead and former art director for WoW. Members also touched Diablo 2 and Starcraft. Scored 18.5 million in funding. Anyway, they want to be the Pixar of MMO development. I love Blizzard but the more competition the better, especially if it's coming from Blizzard's stock. I like WoW but it sucks having nothing new and different to choose from. I want something to challenge my friends with who are all stuck in WoW. Why would I pick a game below WoW-standards especially when my friends won't join me? I think WoW could still own for 1-3 years (God, I hope not longer). And then what? Some of you talk as if once WoW dies then someone else will take over. Blizzard will simply whip out their next deal with the upgraded graphics and more. Who can compete with their funding, infrastructure and talent? Warhammer may become the 2nd most populated MMO for awhile but they could never take the cake with what I'm seeing. They certainly have dedicated fans. Don't dare say anything negative on fanboi sites. Anyway I remain a blizzard fan/critic while rooting for companies like Red5 anticipating something fresh. |

Bringing the Pain Train from FPS to MMO''s. WOO! WOO! |
The reason I picked 2008 and those games is because I base my prophecy on one outstanding conclusion... Microsoft will destroy WoW in 2008! Its the Rise of Direct X 10 Gaming! Any who posess the power of the X will rule the earth!

Anyway so you seem to be certain WoW get's destroyed but not by wich game.Ok so if one game kills WoW then also that game must reach the same amount of subscriptions as WoW.Otherwise it wouldn't be the killer of WoW now would it.So now let me make a "prophecy" : next year there will be NO game that reaches the subscription number WoW has. Also none of these games you named will get the WoW subnumbers EVER.That's my"prophecy". |

Here's a question. How hard do you think it would be to physically destroy an MMO's servers and data backups? Theoretically one angry jilted player on a mission could drive cross country wearing diapers on a mission to smash some electronics "Office Space" style. They wouldn't even get that much time for it either- you can't get the chair for killing a piece of property. The restitution though- ouch. Hope you got your things together. Hope you are quite prepared to die. Looks like we're in for nasty weather. ... There's a bad moon on the rise. |

Ultima Online and Everquest are still going after almost a decade, and neither was ever as popular as World of Warcraft is now. In about 8 more years, WoW will probably drop off to about half a million players, and it might finally die off in 12 years or so. MMOs don't get "destroyed" by the release of a single new game. |

Eventually in years to come it will be outdated and will be replaced by new games, just like all mmo's will. Natural cycle of life. And about the whole cool kid-emo reference, well, world of warcraft is known for a horrible community, unpopularity with alot of older gamers, and simplicity. We've all tried out world of warcraft, no denying that, but it is repetitive and boring. Trust me even you Vlad will quit after awhile. Everyone does. If you can tell me five people you personally know that have been around since wow beta then I will be impressed. Heck Id be impressed with one. OH and dont think Im saying emo people are bad or anything, that may have come out wrong.. I have a couple of friends who do the goth/emo look, fine people indeed. |

None of these will compete with WoW in my opinion. In 2009 though Guild Wars 2 I think will give Blizzard a run for their money. A persistent world with NO monthly fee. I also would not count out Bioware because they make really good games. |
