1) in the United States in order for a kid to buy a game of M rating they need to prove that they r 17(pretty shure thats the age) through a photo ID

2) most parents will see that this game isnt right for their kids and wont buy it or let them use there CCs to pay for it.(depends on parents of course)

3) if the kid did manage to get the game there would also be the problem of paying for it. In the US im pretty shure a kid under 15 or 16 cant have a debit/credit card without having a parent cosign onto the bank account(also depends on parents), and paying for it with buying the game card would still require 30 dollars every 2 months(i asume they will use the plan that every MMO uses for game cards) so how many kids under 15 could pay that without asking parents for money.

Now this being said im not saying u will not have kids playing but im pretty shure there wont be many if any kids under 13 and only a relative few b/w 14-16 playing

(im shure this has ben posted many times but whats the point in reviveing a dead topic)

1) Nobody "cards" kids to buy video games. I don't know how many times you've bought video games as a teen, but even an 8 year old kid can grab a copy of Halo or GTA off the shelves, walk up to the cashier, and nobody will say jack sh*t to him.

2) Most parents actually don't research the games they buy for their kids. Most don't even care, the kids just ask and the parents buy.

3) You know all those "WoW kiddies"? How do you think they're paying for WoW? That's right, mommy and daddy. So instead of it coming up as "14.95 World of Warcraft" every month on their billing statement it'll just be "14.95 Age of Conan".

2) most parents will see that this game isnt right for their kids and wont buy it or let them use there CCs to pay for it.(depends on parents of course) Most parents are to lazy to even read what the games are about, they just buy whatever their kids scream for the loudest. Hence why we had a grandmother who bought GTA SA for her 10 year old grandson.

Again, if the parents buy the game (which they will) why would they refuse to pay for it for their kid? You think all the 12 year olds in WoW are paying for it themselves?

I'm pretty sure that you won't see a lot of little kids playing AOC, not for any of the reasons posted above, but, because Conan is an older IP. When was the last thing done with the Conan IP? Most kids don't even have a clue about Conan. WoW was popular because it had the warcraft name.

I'll say it again: It is not the "showing boobs" or what not that keep kiddies off your game: It is game mecanics who requires some thought (Like a player run economy) instead of the spoon feeding crap you have in WoW that will keep them out.

What deserves to be done, deserves to be "well" done...

I wish people would understand that age does not equate to maturity. Most of the immature players that plague MMOs are 18+. The M rating will do nothing to protect this game from immature players. Remove stealth, easily exploited PvP, and PK accountability to reduce immaturity.

If anything more kids will play AoC because of its M rating.

Tell a kid it has blood in it, you can chop pls heads off, naked ladies too and monsters and they go straight home and say "mom mom, buy this game for me every 1 is goona be playing" the mom who knows nothing about games will simple say "sure kid, anything for a quite life" go find it on play.com and I'll come up and pay for it", "aww thanks mom your the best".

hey-presto AoC full of kiddies.

Game rating means jack its community will be just the same as WoW,EQ2,DaOC and others, plus what is a mature player anyway? your all in a dream world... wake up.

lol another one of there posts?? hehe

as stated before there is no real policing policy to prevent youngins from creating an account and playing, they have to be 18 to buy it but most parents dont really care, and i dont care; there is a reason games make the "/ignore" option.

you'd think that.  but, there's a whole lot of teens that play eve-online.  and by teens, i'm including 13-19, not just 19ish.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

I can tell you right now.. Age has nothing to do with anything... I play DDO there are plenty of asshole players 18+ that just cause pure chaos.

As for the buying game thing, I'm 14, have a job, pay for everything I buy, with my parent's concent anyway (of course they think I am mature enough to handle today's games' graphics/gore, such as AoC.)  But back to the topic, most ignorant and immature people that play MMO's are at least of age 18... But, spoiled teens always get what they want, and well.. 90% of them are immature brats aswell.

Well.. In my own opinion, the more kids that are playing, the worse commutity it gets. If you take two game's to comparison: WoW and EVE-online. WoW = huge amount of 13-15 year olds, many immature and really spoiling the fun for the rest of the players. EVE = I played for 6 months, and I only met very few people that were under 17, and the community was great most of the time.

So the average age of the people playing an mmo does impact the "maturity" of the community a great deal.

And just to clearyfy, I dont say that all of the younger people are immature and all of the older people arnt, just that its more common to find immature 14 year olds than immature 18 year olds.

So I'm not saying that your Immature Murdus just because your 14 ( or of any reason).

And as it goes for WoW, it feels like it attracts immature people for some reason, met alot of 16-18 year olds that were complete idiots, so I get what you mean, but there are more people of that age that play mmo games aswell, so its not surprising to find more 18 year olds acting like idiots than 14 year olds.

That being said, I just hope that AoC attracts more "EVE like" people than crouds from WoW, much better community, no matter the age. So I'm not really sure if its about the age or just the nature of the people playing but it sure seems like the age is playing a difference in the avarage maturity of the players.

People will sell games to those under age and if they don't,  their parents will be buying them for them or using their parents credit cards  online to buy the game.  The M rating will be easy to get around and I'm sure once the game is released there will be reports from minor news outlets to maybe even larger national forms of news that report about minors buying games with nudity and sex and gore in them and they will be talking about AOC in a bad light because of it.  The news reports might hurt the game some but most likely help it as the game's name will get around more and more people will buy it just to see all the things the new companies are reporting about.  There will be many kids in the game all offically illegal but there none the less.  AOC will take a hit from it in the public eye but when the cameras are not on they will be also getting a lot of money from those offically illegal players.  The majority of parents won't complain and the company won't complain about minors in the game,  just the way it will be.

The M rating though will not stop the immature players as that can be any age group and immaturity is a personal opinion rather then a techincal one.

lol i love poor deluded fanboys....

i'll make you a bet RIGHT NOW......M = more players <18yrs old then any other rating for a game, as well as more immature players > 18yrs old. Guaranteed.

1) Not quite true.  Game ratings in the US are provided by ESRB.  ESRB is not regulated by the government in anyway.  It is self regulation by the video game companies themselves.  As a result there is no law in any state demanding restrictions of sale based on age.  Some companies, like Walmart, have store policies that they will not stock Adult Only games and they will not sell Mature rated games to minor children.  This is however totally up to the discretion  of the company.  And to be honest many companies with similar policies never actually enforce these policies.  I have never seen anyone ever being carded to buy a video game, no matter how young they looked.

2) While I'm not a parent myself I would guess that most parents out there don't pay that much attention to the games that their kids play.  IE: They don't have a problem with their teenage children playing Mature rated games.

More importantly however age has very little to do with maturity.  You can be 30 years old and still act totally immature.  You can be 16 and act more mature than most people who play.  Ensuring only people of a certain age can play your game has the definite effect of shrinking your playerbase while only having the potential effect of making your smaller playerbase more mature.

1: Yes, in theory. However few stores actually check if the child is of the required age

2: Just like Grand theft auto, right?

3: Agreed, there are no kids playing World of Warcraft because of monthly fee issues /sarcasm.

I know a 7 year old who just got a PS3 and is playing Resistance Fall Of Man and Call of Duty 3.

The same kid got a laptop (because mommy's little genius did so good in first grade) and we watched Saving Private Ryan on it.

Not to mention his parents were smart enough to install a satellite receiver in his room so he too can watch TV, but didn't bother blocking all those pirated PPV channels - you heard me - kid has access to all the PPV movies (watched Hills Have Eyes 2) and the porno channels too.

All because mommy's little sunshine got some obscure reward at the end of school year. FFS the kid is in 1st grade, who the hell doesn't get a reward in 1st grade? Has anyone ever even failed first grade for that matter so that this thing is the norm?

I don't complain cause babysitting that fuck is a blast - he has all the coolest shit.

A product of the increasing messed up parental society we live in today. Personally I think it has alot to do with culture.

what went wrong?
