The problem in a nutshell is that SOE is not true to any vision they had, have, or will have. They continue to change the game mechanics. The Chapter 6 Combat Downgrade is nothing more than a WoW clone. If I want to play WoW, I'll go play WoW which is where I'm at now. They continue to change the game in massive natures and run off what little clientel they have left. I just left SWG so I would imagine I now qualify as a disgruntled veteran. I was on the game for over a year. I had heard from countless people in game, about CU and the changes that NGE created, but they haven't and will not stop there. The minute that you get used to the game, there will be a patch that changes everything, over night. I have seen another exedus going on, right now. Smedley claims he has 100K subs in an interveiw and says he gained 10% of it with C6. I highly doubt that is anywhere near the truth of the matter, just spin. On Kauri, your lucky to see 50 others on at any 1 time and its getting worce. I wouldn't buy a Ford just to have, 6 months later, some1 drive up and hand me a rambler and I will not continue to pay SWG for their constant changes either. |

Originally posted by Esquire1980 As you know I am extremely sympathetic to your position on this, Brother Esquire. That being said, we must remember that increasing the difficulty was something the older "disgruntled vets" have been asking for since the NGE hit. Did they go too far? Heck yeah, but this change was at least an attempt to do what the pre-NGE population who were still playing the game wanted. I am hoping that when they buff us with our origins that'll make the game closer to where it should be. If not, I'll keep bitching, of course. Godspeed in all you do, see ya in WoW (yes I play that one and CoH as well. PM me anytime for more info). |

STOP FEEDING THIS POS POST FROM FEBRUARY UNLESS, OF COURSE, YOU LIKE READING CRAP LIKE THIS. "Hurray, finally a game where I can fulfill my lifelong dream of taking emotionally dead women and finding the most financially viable means to exploit their bodies with the ultimate goal of making them Hugh Hefner's personal furniture." |

(((on another note. i myself started playing right after the CU hit. I never played an mmo before that as nothing pulled me in like the story of star wars did, and for that matter the sandbox nature of the game imho. anyway i enjoyed the hell out of it, even started up rping on starsider(i had rped several years before that on pbems,etc.)). had a good time, then they relased the nge which pretty much pissed me off and pushed me to quit the game. i never asked for changes to the game and enjoyed it as it was. i never bitched about the gameplay or "lack of content". i was going for jedi but taking my time about it for character devlopement. i got royally pissed at the interface change and the making jedi a starter class which completly ruined my characters developing storyline and well, the fun of the game. my entire guild with the exception of like three players left. i tried again in march of this year and about a month or so ago. in both cases i was disgusted. in the end i don't care if it was soe or lucas arts. somebody screwed up and continues to do so. id settle for cu swg myself. |

Why hasn't this long drawn out troll post been locked/deleted yet the class action lawsuit one was (especially since there is FAR more basis in fact for a player lawsuit against SOE than the original troller's post)? MMORPG mods biased towards SOE? /captainrenault on I am SHOCKED, SHOCKED! |

Originally posted by LakeDaemon Total BS. SWG, before the combat upgrade, had a healthy 200K subscribers. While that might not seem like much to the WoW folks, it was enormous back then. I believe the only paying MMO's that passed it were the original Everquest, and Lineage II. I don't know how many boxes were sold (at $40 to $50 each), but 200K * $15/month is more than enough to keep the servers running, the offices staffed, and still have a tidy profit for the investors.
Why did we abandom SOE? Let's see. More stable: Well, that's good. Unfortunately we don't really know how much more stable it is, since it's a ghost town. It's easy to say the game is more stable when it isn't being stressed the way it used to be. Easier for new players to get into: IMHO, this isn't really a good thing. SWG was a crafter's paradise. Intentional or not, it catered to those who liked games with a great deal of depth, and who didn't mind figuring things out as they went along. Today's candy-land WoW gamer probably would find it difficult, since there were no fluffy quest givers to hold your hand from point A to point B. New players either learned and became part of the community, or ran away screaming. Vastly more content: Yeah, ok. If you say so. No storyline anymore, as the rebel/alliance overt/hidden system was nuked. Jedi are nothing special now that anyone can become one. Socializing is non-existent now... shuttles arrive every few minutes so there's no excuse to chat while waiting for them... entertainers are no longer needed, so there's no call to hang around the cantina unless you want to cyber or something. What you fail to understand is that EVERY online game out there builds a community from the early days of beta testing. SWG had a wonderful community that helped make the game what it was. When SOE (on their own, at the demand of Lucas Arts, or by the Will of Satan) started introducing radical changes to the game, they invalidated the achievments of their players. The folks that spent day after day grinding skills and figuring out how to unlock their Jedi slots, the folks who spent day after day managing huge fields of harvesters and crafting thousands of houses, guns, whatever... all those people got told they were irrelevant when the things they became good at were simplified or removed. To put it simply, SWG is a totally different game than it was before the combat upgrade. Why would we stay? |

Originally posted by LakeDaemon Um, wrong. While it's true that now SOE is struggling to keep SWG afloat, back in the day, they were just greedy. Back when they unleashed this pile of garbage on the community, they claimed financial stress as the reason for these changes. Even though I am living a comfortable upper middle-class lifestyle, I feel financial stress when a Ferrari drives by too. I want one, and can't afford it. So, I can go to the casino with my average guy earnings and try and turn it into a million. This is what SOE did. They rolled the dice and gave up their comfortable earnings, and have been paying for it ever since. In a nutshell, if it they couldn't afford to maintain the game when they had 250,000 subs, how did they manage to keep it alive until now when they haven't had a fraction of that many subs since Nov 15th? The truth is that they can afford it, they just didn't want to. They got greedy. And they are deservedly paying for it. |

Originally posted by quixadhal great point, i tried to stay in the combat upgrade, then they applied a patch that accidently reset the level on alot of droids, so my level (80? i think*) droid got dropped to lvl 1, same with my entire stash of em, and a gm told me i was out of luck. however the space thing was a great move, and i still miss flying my yacht around with passengers screaming there heads off at me, everytime i wandered close to a bunch of pirates |

Credibility, like virginity, is impossible to recover once lost. Of course, the powers that be chose to lose theirs by doing the bidding of a MMO company that is infected with every venereal disease A-Z, and against the largest and most vocal pissed off playerbase in history. |
