I think I read somewhere that we can only play as humans at launch? Does anyone know if this is true? Or will we be able to play as some other alien races too?

yes this is true but i dont really care it takes place in modern day world and im not sure about the bane, they would kinda be a weird race to play

I agree it may be a little weird to play as one of the Bane, but having other alien races to choose from, such as the Foreans, would certainly add to the character diversity. Judging from the backstory, the Bane seem to be trying to take out any civilizations that pose as threats. It would be great to have alliances between different alien races against the Bane. Each being a playable race of course.

Well from a PvP point of view I guess it would be nice to be able to play the evil aliens.

From an AFS (Alliance of Free Sentients) point of view it would be nice to be able to play some of the other members of the alliance.

But - lets get this game out the door - the above can always be added as expansions.

I forget in which interview I read it, but the devs said they're thinking about allowing us to play other races in future expansions.  For now, they want to make the greatest impact on the player by making us relate as much as possible to our characters (and for that, we play humans).  Later on in the game's history they'll think about opening up character options to other alien races within the alliance (no word on the Bane).

If you want to read their exact words, I'm pretty sure I came across this information through Gamespot's Tabula Rasa section.

why does everything have to copy wow, there are loads of games before wow that had alliances and faction vs faction, I love wow and all, but it's not the inventor of EVERYTHING.  damn look at them new jordans, they must be copying wow.
