I am currently dismayed at the level of crappiness which most Sci-Fi MMORPGs have. Even so I voted for it. If the genre is looking for innovation they should go in this direction.
Current Sci-Fi MMORPGs either adapt an EQ-esque system (SWG) or an FPS-esque (PlanetSide, Tabla Rasa(I think)) system. Innovation could be spawned with a mixture. The problems that occur with the fanatasy break true realism (shooting point blank at bugs). FPS MMORPGs seem to fail in a different manner (for me). They aren't very MMO-esque.
I'd really like to see a Mad Max type MMORPG which would establish a new combat/crafting/pvp system. |

This poll has nothing to do with "Genres", you are just mentioning different graphical themes. a "genre poll" would include answers like Western MMOs(Wow, WAR), Asian (Lineage 2 etc), Sandbox MMOs (SWG etc), First person MMOs (planetside)
Design and theme is NOT what defines a genre. Or do you think EvE and SWG fit in the same genre cause they are both using a sci-fi theme? |

Whoa! What happened here? Last time I checked this poll it didn't even have 100 votes. Did somebody link it to their guild or something? :p
Ok, maybe I used the wrong term. I think people get the point though. ;)
Edit: "What's your favourite literary genre for use as an MMOG setting?" maybe? |

Sci-fi by far. Space can humble a man but dragons and midgets makes for quite a retarded experience. - - - |

high fantasy, but with none of that magic crap or screwed up races. damn make ASoIaF into mmo, or WoT. |

Gothic Sci-fi MMO would be the ultimate graphical theme. I want a 40k MMO sooo badly.
Generaly, there are far more good high-fantasy mmos than good sci fi mmos out there, but i really do like the theme of sci-fi |

I really don't care that much, I just don't like what I consider rediculous things, such as, magic, lasers, teleporters, psionics, unplausible monsters( werewolves and vampires are ok if they have toned down abilities) and races like elves, orcs or aliens. General things that I consider unappealing and too unattached from reality to be interesting. Whatever genre a game is I think it should be more gritty, it can have touches of the fantastical, but they should be subtle. But I would mostly likely pick Art Deco Steam Punk as my favorite. |

Ever played the Shadowrun RPG? With a good GM, it is gritty and includes magic and fantasy races (elves, orcs, dwarves, and trolls for PCs). I would love to see a Shadowrun MMO. My second wish would be a Fallout MMO.

I want to see a well done sci fi mmo RPG ... like a star trek mmo ... done right... we'll have to see if STO even comes close to the point of the shows. other than that, sword and sorcery is nice like Conan... or a Diablo theme

Well, tbh for me it depends how the game is structured based on the genre. I never really decide if i play a game only basing myself on its genre. For example I like EVE alot, its Sci-Fi, but I also like L2, which is Fantasy, and Im looking forward to play Aion Online, High Fantasy.. So I really cant chose a specific genre, I would have to chose game/genre, and not only genre. |

First off, i voted Sci-fi ( Anarchy Online FTW!!). However, I am also interested greatly in post-apocalyptic ( Icarus Studios "Fallen Earth" ) and horror ( Whitewolfs' to-be-determined mmorpg ). Post-apocalyptic definitely falls under sci-fi and horror can as well depending on the setting ( Funcoms' "The Secret World ).
So, sci-fi it is. |

Originally posted by Dreamagram My fave is high fantasy, but the main problem: Not a single mainstream MMO (read EQ clones, WoW clones) goes into that catagory. When I think High-Fantasy, I think humans, centaurs, pixies, etc all joining up against evil, or dragons, driders, naga teaming up to rule the world. Name a mainstream MMO that has centaurs, pixies, dragons, driders, naga, or even something with more arms/legs, or less, as player characters. I like high fantasy the best because it allows for the most original and unique games of them all. Too bad Korean companies keep on flooding the market with unoriginal fantasy clones. ____________________ Have played: RuneScape, EQ2 (free trial), Last Chaos, Silk Road, Dungeon Runners. The notion that graphics, or anything else for that matter, are anywhere near as important as gameplay/fun is so utterly ridiculous that anyone who shares such a view should be placed in an asylum. |

I'm sticking to my CoX, i dabble in the other mmo's, but i always have a CoX subscription to fall back to :)
But the day i get a Sci-Fi with the same customization as CoX, and the same fast packed action, mixed with a proper skills system instead of levels, i'm switching :P ------------------------------ |

I voted Crime. All that mafioso jazz really intrigues me, but I've never seen it done in an MMO before. In fact, I haven't really played any mafioso games, lol, if anyone could point me in the direction of some good ones it would be appreciated |

Post-apocalyptic for sure. Nothing beats that. My daddy was a bankrobber, but he never hurt nobody

Definitely Fantasy. I don't really like all those sci-fi and those other ones. |
