Blizzard is going to make a WarCraft movie, and it's probably going to follow WC 1-3. I don't see it being sucsessful though.

I must say, I was thinking that a Warcraft movie would go nowhere as well, but then I saw cuper say it's going to be made by the same guys that made "300", and I got excited.

I personally really liked "300", and if the Warcraft movie was made in the same-ish style, I could see myself enjoying it.

Waaaaagggghhhh!!!

huge opening night success but the next day nothing. Even if it is made by the same guys that made 300 I'm still expecting something corny with a very loose plot, but I'll still see it, it's still Warcraft.

-Snowman <- this name was taken.....but I like it more

Blizzard wont be making the movie, its Legendary Pictures that has been slated for it.  They are the same group that made "300" as someone pointed out.

The same company is also reportedly planning to make a "Diablo" movie which brings up speculation that they are going to ditch Warcraft in favor of Diablo due to pressure from Blizzard.  Personally, I would think it a much safer move to stick with Diablo.  Legendary is known for having pretty dark movies of recent years, Batman Begins being another one.  They could probably pull off Diablo pretty well but I doubt Warcraft would really meet up to expectations from the games fans, too many, and too avid, likely the movie would be torn apart by a lot of people.

WoW seems to be a good property to make into a movie...it's got a storyline already, unlike say SuperMario Brothers, but keep in mind that there have been no smash hit movies based on a game, and what the suits are looking for is synergy between the game and the movie.

WoW has a bit of a cinematic edge to it, in that you've got elements of some epic story right there from the start.  Stringing together a storyline based on say the Defias organization wouldn't be hard to do...you could start the protagonist out in Northshire and have them work their way through several zones over a 90 minute period and wind up in the Dead Mines for the finale...and then plant the seeds for the sequel in the final battle.

The trick is having enough clever dialog and companions to the main protagonist to make it interesting.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

Agreed, I believe thats why the high profile big money Video Game -> Movie titles are being dropped.  Halo for example.

I have to admit the Resident Evil movies were fun though, but not what I could consider "good".
