What a TERRIBLE topic name. It's so misleading that your first glance at the title makes you assume that the OP has a link to a dev article that states AoC will be $20 a month to play. But instead he's babbling on about inflation and how much he loves candy...

i dont see why i would need to pay extra money for a mature rated game. one thing, not many parents even care about the rating, hence so many children play M+ games. second point, convincing the wife to let me spend the extra five to ten bucks to play a game. and third why do i want to pay an extra 5 to ten bucks to see naked toons when i can tell the wife to get naked for free. thats my two cents

Selling Propane and Propane Accessories in a MMORPG near you.

Terrible idea.

Being the only game with a 20$ monthly fee (that's 25% more than any other) means a lot of people will skip your game.

When the average sub amount does go up, which it is sure to do eventually, it'll be like 17 or 18  bucks, not 20. We went from 12-13$ per month to 15, so I doubt it will jump from 15 to 20 in a single bound.

I hope they do raise the prices, so that i have a reason to find the OP and kill the stupid fuck, hes obviously the type of people who loves taking it in the ass and has been throughout his pathetic needless fucking existence.

OP go jump off a cliff, do the world you wish to piss off so much a favor for once.

If Blizzard would rise the monthly fee, I might go back to WoW... why? Just because most of the tiny whiny itchy bitchy kids would stop playing and average player age would rise, which I think would be great, because I happen to be ancient or getting closer of being ancient ;)  I did not stop playing wow just because of the amount of kids though. End game killed me or maybe I should say grind killed me.

I personally don't mind if monthly fees get more expensive.

Why? Well for one thing, a higher price woukld likely keep more kids out. And that'd be a good thing.

I wouldn't mind pay $30 per month if it keep out most of the younger players.

it would keep out most of the older players too.. and do you really think those kids whos parents buy them beamers are gonna say no to the extra few dollars? besides, just because there are less minors doesnt mean there would be less morons.. there is no age limit for stupid.. and besides, im 28, i used to play FFXI, and my 2 best in game friends were 43, and 15. 2 of the best people ive ever met (in game)... oh and as far as  people whos age ive actually known, more idiots fall in the 18-25 group than any other

The monthly fees have to be reasonable. WOW now has 9 million player up from 8 milloin in January. There is huge money to be made as it is, without putting fees up!

You should wait for AoC to come out before saying how fantasic it will be. Your setting yourself up for a big disappointment im guessing.

From the combat videos i've seen, it looks just as run of the mill as most other MMOG's. Nothing interesting there and the blood

effects look way over done and not real at all.

If the monthly price went higher than 15 bucks on any MMO, i'd stop playing in a second. They don't offer enough entertainment or support

for any price higher than that.

The devs claimed that the monthly fee would be around market standards. 15$ estimated would be my guess, Funcom is smarter  than to bump up the price over all MMOs, especially before the big show-off between top games that is about to take place late 07-08.

Omg, inflation in the subscription pay to play model( which imho is something that we should stand up against, Power buff to the People!)?  This is crazy!

Lol, yeah right.  AoC and it's devs, it's backing co wouldn't have the balls to up the price.  Personally I think that the only way that the standard averages of p2p pc games go up would be if the game were already super successful. Even then it would quite honestly be hard to do.

WoW is probably the only game that could do it might I add, but that opportunity has passed I think with so many being soooooooo sick of it.  Perceived prophetic quality is not justification.  The risk of the game even being successful is too high.  Add in price hike and you instantly turn what could be a widely popular game (making more money) into a niche game that it's only the hardcore fans who shell out the hard earned dollars( which is probably not a whole lot of people).  You have to crawl before you walk.

Not to mention that it actually has some real competition on the horizon.

God forbid that Xbox 360 players may have a shot a joining the fray for free. The line has to be drawn somewhere. In fact the line was drawn years ago. Albeit in chalk but it's there.  Some say that prices go up.  Well, I say that prices go down just the same.

Also, I read in someone's post that there are way too many FANTASY mmo's out there. There are alot of sci-fi ones too.  Beyond that I'm not really sure what else could be done.  Maybe a horror sci-fi mmo with VAMPIRES or...dun dun dun-------THE NINJA MMO!!!!!
Can't getaway from feeling that the reason for all the fantasy mmo's is mainly due to ------->SWORDS, AXES, DAGGERS,WANDS,STAFFS, SWEET ARMOR and SPELLS.   In this dynamic I believe is what most want to use.  Sci-fi uses guns and such.
What else is there really?  Modern day stuff like baseball bats, crobars and 9mm's?  While that may be fun, I can hardly believe that anyone wants that.  My opinion of course. You have been blessed by my  2 CENTS.

I agree with you totally. The videos I have seen do not show revolutionary combat that the company's been boasting about. It seems it's almost similar to every other mmorpg out there. Character models also don't look so great although the environment does look quite good.

No.  The price point will bring AoC to its death.

This is all theory!!!!! and Speculation!

Ps. Graphics dont make the game - gameplay does!

I honestly see nothing stated that  creates a need to raise the subscription price any higher than the standards we are already at. Much higher and I definitely think you will limit the community.  Price rises mainly happen in certain markets due to peoples willingness to spend more, and your openness to it does not help the end user. It's not to say that they shouldn't be paid any wage donating time for free and washing my car for nickels but  near 15 bucks a month per user is quiet a good deal on their  end.  The very fact that you pay more for your candy bars and ice cold beverages would only make one  believe you would have even less money to spend on entertainment so why in hell would we want to pay more for that too?
i can understand why you would think i'm nuts for suggesting a higher monthly fee.

I just feel that if  AoC is as good as I think it will be; a 19.95 subscription for 30 days would be good for the players.
Yes,it would be beneficial for us gamers by showing that we are willing to fork out more cash for quality.
It would send a message to future mmorpg developers that hey if you actually make something good, yes you can charge a little more and we will happily pay extra with a smile on our face.

C'mon guys,it still will cost LESS than $1 USD  per day.
Fellow gamers let's all help send that message.
Age of Conan a Premium Mmorpg.
 We already do this ..........

Make a quality game and we will pay 15 bucks a month continously to play this game. However if we do get the game and it sucks, we will not continue to subscribe. Get horrid reviews  because your game isnt up to quality .....we more than leikely  wont even consider it. So Its simple ......... make quality games and you can make alot of money by having many subscribers.

20 a month doesnt sound like a lot.  Honestly I would play it enough to make it worth that.  But for the average joe, you figure its 180 dollars per year if ur paying 15 a month.  20 dollars is 240.  That is quite a lot of cash for playing ONE game.  I think its worth it, but a 25% increase will narrow ur market more then u'd think.  IF it was 15 bucks a month this game could be the FIRST WoW killer IMO.  But... Will c I guess.  I no I'll probably pass... I'm a poor wittle college student... Im taking a year off of work and I dont want 240 bucks on my credit card in addition to my RL expenses.

;)
