The whole comment about " I can't give you numbers, but the charts I had seen before (and likely you've seen) were dead wrong." is hillarious. WHY can't they give us numbers IF it's doing so well? The reason why is in the definition of "doing well" itself. I KNOW FOR A FACT, because a longtime childhood friend of mine works at SOE and recieves weekly reports on subsription numbers, that subs were at 80k a month ago, have gone up to 85k in the last few weeks, It's still not cracking the 100k mark, and is a far cry from the 300k+ it had in it's prime. One more thing he told me is that SOE has offciaily put this game into "maintenance mode" which means it is running on a skeleton crew of devs, that are only working on bugs, and there are NO PLANS FOR ANY FUTURE EXPANSIONS. Ever. Say what you will, laugh at my source, but he doesn't even work on this game anymore because he's strictly a "new product "development person, and just thanks God that he's not working on SWG anymore (he just gets to laugh at the weekly deptartmental reports on all SOE games). AND, one more thing he said is, 'it's common knowledge here in Austin, that Rich Vogel has been working on a new Star Wars MMO for Bioware for the last year". This is from someone who's been working in the gaming community for 10+ years, and I've known personally for over 25, so I could care less of you believe it or not, time will tell. SO, just in case Grey Pawn (and boy does that forum name fit him) needs some help counting....... 85K is the current SWG sub base. There you have it. |

Originally posted by ajax7 It is defintely a "Star Wars" IP Vogel is working on. This is not someone's squeeze, and I'd verify my source, except for witchunters like Obraik would probably try to cause him RL problems. I just hadn't talked to him for a year or so, and recently he helped me with a project I've been working on, and SWG came up in the conversation. We both were laughing actually, since I don't play it, and he doesn't work on it, neither of us are affected by anyone's trust in what I've posted, hell he doesn't even play video games, he just works on them for a living. As far as Obraik's comments though, it was some who "had a friend at SOE" that warned everyone moths in advance about the NGE, and no one believed him either, so I pretty much expected this reponse. Like I said, time will tell, and I think it's safe to say you're going to know the "Fate of the Galaxies" by the end of this year. Cheers |

It's amazing the the collection system, beast master and heroic mobs are all bug fixes! For a skeleton crew they put up expansions on par with other mmos! |

He can't give you numbers because the whole genre just doesn't give out this kind of data. Its not in the public domain. And I have said time and time again who cares about the numbers? Just because Galaxies doesn't have 5million + playing like warcraft and just because it's no where near the 300k playing at launch - who cares?! WHO CARES?! your #1 resource for everything SWTOR

I'm not saying I believe every "friend of a friends girlfriend" post, but a few are actually true (the most striking one top of my head ofc being that guy posting about the upcoming NGE). *edit* 85k is much better then at least I thought, and it seems even ppl working on the game had lower numbers in mind haha. are those pure SWG subs only? no trials (ofc) and no station pass? |

A few days ago we talked, finalizing some other stuff, and he said "My weekly report says subs are up 5k on SWG, and they were "happy" about it the Monday morning meeting, but we have no clue why", he went on to allude to the fact that with all the new product SOE is working on, SWG won't be sunsetted, but they'll pretty much have the "bug bash" and other game mechanics finalized by the end of the year, at which time it will basically turn into a "B ticket" on the Staion Pass ala Planetside. Anyway, I could care less about SWG, and I'll tell you this much, either could the people at SOE truthfully. SWG has been a thorn in thier side since launch, and I think they hope with all thier new products coming out, they will finally be able to put this "dog" down, it's like watching "Old Yeller" over and over and over again. lol If I talk to him again, and hear anything differnt, I'll post it, but I kinda get the feeling that people either don't believe, don't want to hear, or just plain don't care. when someone with inside info posts. It's still interesting to me though, since I really did love the old game, and think that if SOE had stuck with Raph's orginal vision, they would have those numbers alot higher now, becuase truthfully many gamers are just plain tired of the "WoW model"., and I think many would have migrated to the old game, if they'd ficed it, instead of constantly re-invinting it. My friend agreed completely btw. One last thing he did say when I told him that the game used to be alot better (becuase he's only been there since right before the Rage of the Wookies which is what he was brought on for) he said, "yeah, we know that now" |

Wow, I just noticed they moved this to the veteran refuge. That's kinda funny since it's current sub numbers, and I really only posted cause I saw the 5 page thread about Greypawns comments on the SOE boards. Oh well, I guess they figure anyone who would try and talk about sub numbers, must be disgruntled vet lol. |

Edit: As for swg numbers.. not sure about the other galaxies but on Bria there always seems to be a pile of people in the major cities, often with running pvp battles (especially at restuss) - just need more pvp pilots :) ---- |

Originally posted by DarthMaulUK I could get behind the sentiment here... that a lot of people who don't play the game should probably just move on... but you have to understand that asinine comments like, "The game has never been more fun", are exactly the kind of blatant bullshit that people feel the need to refute. It's fine if you like the game as it is, but it pales in comparison to it's former self. When you say that the button mashing POS with one class in different outfits is better than the skill-based system of diverse classes and races that it once was, then you are either a liar or a fool... Maybe even a little of both. |
