They might have considered keeping it if Florendyl's population hadn't dropped by around 30% in the weeks since that poll was taken.

Those falling numbers meant that on its own, it was no longer a viable server, and it had to be merged in order to give their few remaining players a greater ability to find groups, or others to trade with. It might suck in the short term, but if there's going to be any long term health for VG, it's better to merge it now, then possibly open up an RP server later on, if the population is there.

Hate to tell you but without a merge you wouldn't have anyone to group with at the rate its going.  I play there and am in the largest guild on Florendyl and I can tell ya my guild was having discussions of all moving to another server if we didn't see a merge.  The number of votes on the poll was only a minority of the players and I can tell you that most I talked to wanted the merge.  You just have that vocal minority ranting a raving about how they would rather play on a near empty server than merge because they want to RP.  Well thats not the case for most of us as I would say it would be generous to say that 10 percent of the server RP's if that.

I applaud the move, if it didn't happen I think you would have seen many people leaving the server for greener pastures and who can blame them.  If I'm paying for a MMO I expect to be able to group and enjoy the content that the game offers and low populations make that all but impossible many times.

At least they gave you a reason of why it isn't being merged. And its a viable reason too.

We aren't asking for "special treatment" just for the rules set to be preserved.

We voted.  The results were overwhelming.  We didn't want the merge.  Then they went and ignored the vote and are merging us anyway.

Oh I see.  No role play server.  Plus I do understand being upset after they asked for a vote and ignored it.

OP.  The population is in decline.  Unfortunately, the population on the RP server cannot sustain itself.  If it were able to, they would have allowed a server for RP.  I would prefer RP myself.

I really cannot wait for them to merge the servers.

They made a decision because in the weeks since that poll, population numbers have fallen by around 30%. That's close to one-third of the people that were on Florendyl gone, and just in the last month or so.

No, you're asking them for special treatment. You want them to ignore the facts that they have, with numbers that show a massive decline in population on Florendyl in just a few weeks. The remaining numbers meant that the server was no longer viable for them to keep running. Yet you want them to ignore all that because of the results of a poll.

Servers cost money, not just in maintenance costs, but in man-hours needed with GM's and other support staff. Those are luxuries that Vanguard clearly doesn't have, and the low numbers for Florendyl obviously got in the way of them keeping the server separate. It might suck for the hardcore RP crowd, but in the end, SOE's a business. They have to do what works for their bottom line, and if that means merging the RP server, then so be it.

Vote with your wallet, move games. I agree, you started with a certain ruleset, you expect a certain ruleset. The VSoH team can obviously afford to lose you.

Having we been told again and yet again how packed the servers are in VG by many of its fanbo...er..players?  How great the game is now and how much they've fixed it compelling so many players to return?  How everything is so sweet and many ex-players are back?

Here's proof they're merging servers due to LACK of population. Ok? LACK as in few as in not many as in almost empty as in almost everyone jumped ship as in it's not worth it as in....  You no longer can come and tell the gaming world VG is thriving because it's not. A game that's thriving and doing well doesn't need to merge it's servers. On the contrary, it's failed, period.

My guess is this is just the begining if they haven't already merged other servers before and most likely will merge many more before it's all over.  But you know, this isn't a surprise. The way this game was headed it was just a matter of time before they had to merge servers and expect a lot more tightening of the belt for VG.

Florendyl is probably the worse of all the servers and many players at the time back then came here and stated it was. Lack of cooperation between many of it's players was the main gripe back then.

So the mergers have begun, just another step BACKWARDS for SOE and this game. You can't deny it if this game was worth it they would be adding servers, not disposing of them.  But as most of us know, this couldn't happen to a nicer bunch then SOE. I'm sure many ex -SOE game players couldn't be happier for them, I know I am.

Maybe they need a participation of at least 70% of the player base to even consider the poll.  If the participation was too low, they consider players where not motivated enough.

I'm not seeing the big deal actually. First, I'm willing to be that RP was optional, and not strongly enforced.  Second, nothing prevents you from Roleplaying on your new server.... Finally, you certainly weren't screwed over anywhere near as badly as the Team PVP server folks who suddenly are going to find themselves on a FFA PVP server, which is certainly a more shocking adjustment.

Yeah, they ignored the poll...so what...they are going to do what's best for the game and their wallets.,... and you are free to leave if it really bothers you that much.. (its what I ended up doing, though not for that reason)

In my opinion the serer merge is not a bad idea, so it helps to give that game a small but good basis.
