I have to say I think it's just too little too late. This game's been functionally dead to the general MMO community for years. It's practically a dinosaur and I think only the really hardcore SWG at heart fans will even bother with it. "Because it's easier to nitpick something than to be constructive." -roach5000 |

Everyone loves analogies so lets make one another I present you with a rotten apple. You don't like the rotten apple and complain that it needs to be fixed so we cut it half, remove the seeds, try to make the stem stand up more and polish the outside so its a shinier apple (but still rotten). The neighbors start giving out apples that are a little more presentable yet still rotten and people start to jump all over them. So we decide its time we take our original apple and remove the stems, seeds, skin, smash up and make a rotten apple pie. Why the heck would we go through all the trouble in trying to add to the pie to make more like it was at the beginning...a rotten apple. I'm a vet from just after release, and while i'll admit some of the new changes seemed promising I saw no need to eliminate complete things in order to add new stuff (how professions were killed?). So moving backward toward a rotten apple is helping but not fixing the original problems...just adding new ones. Truthfully the game needs a full revamp from the beginning, or a new development house to take over the Star Wars mmo license. KOTOR online would rock.... |

Um... I am a tad confused by this one series of posts in this thread. Pre-CU was trash? and Cryptic should get the license because they made a good character creation system? For the sake of arguement. Lets say Pre-CU wasn't that good. It was at least amusing for the first free month. Compared to CoH where the best thing about the game was character creation. (and if you want to discuss what the invention system brought to the game.. it took how long for that to make it to live from lauch of the game?). *oh and that's my personal view point.. that I'm not trying to say this is just how it was as fact. If you want facts and look at what the peak subscriber numbers were before WoW launched... SWG was one of the more successful MMO's to hit the market. In fact if WoW never launched or had flopped... it would still be skill based (imagine that).* I'm not sure that's the comparison I would want to be making. As to the game.. yes a lot of people have come back or tried to come back. Beast Master is an "ok" thing. You totally gut whatever class you are if you really want to be a beast master tho. So it may or may not work out for you. It also depends on what type of pet you are willing to settle for (basicly how many points aka Hydro enzyme quality). If you have a lot of old premium resources around you can make your own.. most likely. If not you are probably looking at a hefty credit investment. It just depends on what you (the individual player) wants. Along with the Beast Master system introduced with Chapter 6.. they also changed mob difficulty (again). On servers that actually have a healthy player base (these do exist) its not a big deal. On servers where there is almost no player base (these exist as well) there may be quite a bit of content you can't do. I had a lot of old resources and my GF and myself could duo krayts quite easily so we got the base Hydro Enzymes I wanted. So ya I played with pets quite a bit and its amusing to an extent. Lack of diversity, BM added as a third expertise tree that guts your main character and having to level my pet on top of the already mind numbing boring task of leveling my toon.. are about what kill it for me. None of those detriments existed pre-cu. Also I managed to play pre-cu in a skill system that worked fine for me and EVERY person I knew. Just as I played pre-trammel UO in a skill system that worked for me. There is nothing wrong with skill based systems (on any inherent level.. in fact level based games present more issues to development). That might make a good discussion thread... (but forums don't really ever contain much discussion). They also need to learn to not base development changes off the vocal minority... in all mmo's. That way perhaps more of them would keep a majority of their subs. I'd love to see an official release of how many subs quit when levels were introduced to the game.. versus the "broken skill" system.. or how many left because pvp related changes ruined the game for them (when they never pvp'd) as an example. Since we won't get one.. I always love comments about why people quit. If you have a personal reason that's fine.. I don't know anyone that knows the 400,000 or more subs that were lost from launch until today. So I'm not sure how anyone thinks they can actually comment on it. (unless you have access to data from soe..).
*disclaimer* I am not trying to say the current game is or is not good for any individual player. That is something each person decides for themself. It can be interesting.. but for me it was not long term interesting. I'm also not keen on discussing pre-cu because it doesn't exist. I do know I subscribed on 9 accounts up until nge launched (yes I dealt with the CU). I just don't find any long term game play for me personally in this game.. altho I do try it again now and then. I really wish forums could be more of a discussion area.. where people could say "this is how *I* see it" rather than trying to make some all inclusive statement that "this is how it was". |

I quit again today. - It will take me 6 months to progress to the point where I can be geared out enough to compete with other vets.

I really believed that SWG was it's way back but before re-subbing I decided to check out the official forum. All I see is posts about how bad the game is. Lots of people whining and talking about bugs and how smugglers still can't smuggle for other players etc. Sounds like a really broken game. I guess there is no point hoping any more. |
