It will be free to play with massive in game advertising from Coke and Maccas befor it will RIP>? I rekon that it will be around for another generation or 2 befor the plug gets pulled! Around forever? yes. In-game ads? Not likely. There is no feasible way of doing that within the game model. You might see a few during startup, but not within the game itself. Over time the cost of maintaining the game will decrease though the player base will hold steady. Most likely the price will stop increasing (if it will ever increase, cuz it hasn't yet) and inflation will take its toll rather than decreasing the actual cost to play the game. It will also never be free. Even in 15 years, 8.5million is unlikely to dwindle to a number where the need to make it free becomes necessary to keep the game around. Servers will slowly merge, but actual free play? no. If it did go free, Blizzard would get some kudos from me though. Couple examples of what I mean: EQ, AC, AO. Aged, but not free. |

I certainly agree with the article, in fact I have been saying as much on these forums for a long time. However, I’m somewhat puzzled as to what the article has to do with your opining post in this thread.
The main gist of the article is that while WoW appeals to people who like MMOG’s the MMOG genre may as well not exist to the typical WoW fan. |

Originally posted by ronan32 I disagree somewhat. I'm a pretty big gamer, and I think the Wii is the best system. The Wii did something NEW, the other systems are the same shit better graphics. |

Blizzard only has servers in N America to support 550,000 players at a time, not even just N America, thats for Oceanic servers also, even European and Asian countries are playing US servers...and i know probably 70% of their servers arnt even close to EVER reaching max population... so are these 2.5 million people sharing their playtime in an orderly fashion, or are these numbers just made up.

Originally posted by lomiller QFT. Majority of WoW players got in thanks to the buzz and /or the fast-paced FPS-style combat system. If WoW was to close down tomorrow, most of those millions of players wouldn't go back to another MMO. Also what is dead in wow isnt susbcription numbers, it is creativity. They pulled out a wonderful game in 2004, but 2 and half a year later, the game has not changed at all, and isn't likely to change more in the coming years. My personnal guess anyway is that they are working on a pure pvp expansion with instanced city/region raiding to counter the WAR effect. |
