I know i don't play any games they've made and thats cause they have nothing worth playing for me as i'm a EVE Online fan. Tbh everyone only hates them for what happened with SWG and in all fairness they wouldn't have done the NGE if it wasn't for Lucas Arts. People always complain about their customer service and yet i get a reply within 10 mins of a ticket. Lots of people complain about how they don't reply to their tickets but tbh most people ask them stupid questions which can be answered on the forums and nothing for their customer service to worry about. |

Originally posted by moostown Same way you get Blizzard hate etc, just part and parcel of being an MMO developer. You make a few screwups, "waves to smd" or have a few screwups *waves to tigole* and people hate you for it, forever. don't worry, i think there's haters for everything - microsoft, apple, sony, every game under the sun. lets all agree though; the Wii rocks... lol =) |

You should play a couple of thier games and you'll start to hate them as well. They are the worst company ever and I will never try a game with SOE on it EVER AGAIN....
I was the same as you before I got to know SOE. I used ot defend them. Not anymore, they suck and I hope they lose alot of money.. |

What an odd post you wrote OP..... you don't play any of their games (because they are not good) yet somehow they've provided you excellent customer service and responded quickly to your open tickets.... best servers huh, (well, again you don't play, but besides that) from what people have said there's still lag/server issues on SWG..in fact, people say they can't even log into SOE web sites on frequent occasions, for no particular reason. I know the SWG crowd tends to be a bit rabid...and they've made nice with the EQ 2 folks nowadays..but there's a lot of people who've had an unfortunate experience with SOE and are understandably bitter. Me, I only played VG (which I don't blame SOE for) so I could really care less, but I do see where many folks are coming from.

I can't recall a time that SOE has EVER screwed up on publishing. Their station account system and launchpad have always worked perfectly for me, and I've definitely never had problems finding SOE games at retail stores. That's all they're doing for PotBS, but I still really like what they've done with completely in-house projects like EQ2. The way that dev post was written, it sounded like SOE were very accommodating to their somewhat unique situation. It's nice to hear that I'm not supporting a bunch of douchebags with my SOE subs. |

There are alot of people who say ''I hate SOE, because he said so''. I'm 100% sure, most people who said how rubbish SOE is, have never played a SOE game before. I have never experienced trouble with SOE. I like it. |

The hatred is a natural process in SoE case.
See, with a normal situation, you either love or not the product, you play or not. You quit happy when you are done. This is the normal situation.
SoE picks another evolution system in order to maintain subscribtions...so you can LOVE and HATE the same game at once, just different aspect of it. Eventually, the hatred been a stronger emotion will overcome the love you have for the product, but after sometimes. So, instead of a normal situation where you hate and leave, you did remain many months before you actually hate the game more then you love it.
I should hate SoE, but I don't. I understand this process. However, I don't trust SoE on an entertainment level, thereby my many refuses to put a capital letter on online, I want to underline the ENTERTAINMENT part they forget. See, if you remove online, you still have a game...if you remove entertainement, you have nothing which is online, quite useless.
See, if a player for example loves to solo. He can love EQ at first. But eventually, the facts he is the weakest soloer, that everyone who do other activities solo better then him, it will lead him to HATE massively the game. And he is rightfull in his hatred. Nobody deserve to solo better then soloers. But SoE instead of thinking in a player-way, they think in a corporate way, in a company way, in a professionnal way, they judge activity X been better then activity Y, which results in peoples doing X been better then Y in everything...which is a critical mistake, nobody should be better then peoples doing activity Y inside Y activity itself... (The community, group VS individuals, these are all traps that SoE falls in for quite easily. A soloer can't be a better grouper then a grouper, but he certainly deserves to solo better then everyone else...anyone saying otherwise is a nazi in becoming) - "If I understand you well, you are telling me until next time. I have had no big problems with SOE. They've done well with EQ2, they are attempting to turn Vanguard around and since they aren't actively developing PotBS I'm sure there won't be any problems there either (even if they were I could argue that it wouldn't be a problem.) All they have to do is sell the discs, and they have plenty of money to spend, so I'm sure they can manage that. |

I stopped playing EQ2 when they change how the poisons proc. My ranger went from being able to solo.. to not at all. I never cared for all the changes they constently made in EQ2. But, I undertood many of them. The servers for EQ2 were down for a prolonged period of time, more than any other game I have played. But, much of that has to do with the fact they constantly update. Many probably don't even notice because they don't play during the morning/day like I did. |

I personally don't hate SOE, they are out to make money and I'm not under any illusions that they care about their customers (they pretty much all operate like that). That said I think many SOE haters started with the first Everquest and once the NGE came around all hell broke loose. I simply do not trust SOE. Ever since EQ1 I have had a bad relationship with SOE, especially their so called customer service. Of course my opinion of them is only going to be from MY perspective. Everyone will have differing opinions based on their experiences with SOE. Aside from my problems with their customer service, I really can not stand how much they feel the need to change their games. I know MMOs are not supposed to be stagnant, but the WAY they change their games is just so extreme. Every time I play one of their games I never know if the next time I log on my high elf wizard isn't going to be an ogre ranger. <---exaggeration People put a lot of time and energy into the game, community and their characters and SOE has never really had a problem taking it all away. Anyway, that's my own personal opinion and experience having played many of their games since EQ. |

I dunno. I have tried other games like WoW, EVE, DAoC, et al.
Vanguard is a very good game if you want a MASSIVE sand box, free world to explore. If you want tons of options for content, but you need to find that content. It is like EQ 1. The Class system is the best in any game on the market. The combat is very fun and very active with innovative features. Overall, it is a great game.

Originally posted by moostown Personally, I just use extra caution when dealing with SOE. No SOE didn't mess up Vanguard but they were in charge of billing and alot of people here know that they were not able to cancel. I wasn't part of the Star Wars NGE or CU so I guess thats why they don't bother me so much. What I was part of was the EQ2 launch and that was pretty disasterous and muddled my way through that game for 2 years buying expansions and adventure packs that were average to below average in content(except EOF) hoping it would get better. Then it did finally get better but I think I was just burned out on the game itself and left before I became a hater.
I do think your right that LucasArts saw how other games were doing and was like "We need to see numbers like this. Let's do something different." Hence the debacle that ensued. The reason the blame goes to SOE is because its easy to hate them knowing that they only have one Star Wars title but no one would ever boycott LucasArts. Mostly because if they boycotted LucasArts then they couldn't play any Star Wars games ever. Myself, I have been boycotting LA ever since Star Wars Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace. His last 3 movies were just not good. Lucas milked his own IP for what it was worth and all his fans fell into line to give him his money.
