I'm a vet, but I left just prior to JTL going live so I have no experience seeing the CU and NGE in action and to be honest, at this point in time some of the specifics of SWG are a little fuzzy to my memory. So, I have the original box. If I were to reinstall and renew my SWG account, would I still need to somehow buy the JTL expansion (and others if there were retail expansions) to get the full experience or is everything included in the auto-updates? (Updating 4 years worth of patches, etc... sounds like something I should do overnight) |

You'd get a better answer in "current" but here's my attempt. Good luck getting the game to work with your original disks. I tried it a couple months ago and kept getting error messages in the update. My theory is the game has changed so much it has no clue how to update the original game. My suggestion...sign up for the trial, use a different user name. Download the full game then re-up your subscription. I had all the expansion packs so I do not know what happens once you re-up without having them previously. Also, unless they have fixed it, there was a bug that would say the update was complete when it wasn't really complete. Once again, check in current forums but I think if you leave the game on the update screen it will eventually finish the update (takes a LONG time). |

Didnt sony just release yet anothe r.. "complete" game box (hold on I hurt myself falling to the floor laughing at using the word complete in a SWG treferance) that you can buy for like $10 at best buy or some such store that has NGE on the disc (which most computers may spit the disc out like you tried to make a dog take a pill) I think...
or check with file planet... But enjoy WoW, with a star wars skin... that has day 1 bugs still ingame .. and alot of other really mean and nasty NGE comments Ill just stop or this post will exceed 3 pages long... |

if you re-install what you get is a bug and lag filled mess ran by devs who are too busy playing wow and sadness remembering how the game used to be...

You should be up for a free trial since you havent played in a while. I know everyone gets JTL free and I'm pretty sure you get RotW free as well. Only real expansion anyone has to get anymore is ToOW.
Install your disks and try logging in before subscribing. You most likely will have a 2 week trial to everything you had before at least. Sadly, your going to be really confused about how the game is. Its way different now. |

When I started up the vet trial, I had about 3 hours of downloading patches over a 400kbs DSL connection. I left the game in Feb 2006. Your experience will be significantly different, there was one patch when I was still active that caused everyone pain with error messages that you had to click your way around. I doubt that a 'fresh" installation off original SWG disks would go flawlessly. The game has been radically transformed twice in the interim. CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested. Once a denizen of Ahazi |

For 20 bucks you can get the Complete Online set that includes the original game and all the expansions. If you do the trial, you don't get your free 30 days. Approaching the game from a fresh perspective, it's actually pretty good. All of the negative posts are from the pre CU fanbois. I'm not suggesting they don't have a reason to be pissed, it's just that coming from a non biased perspective(which is not possible in this thread) it's a good game. I was sucked right in. There are plenty of Elder players. I bet most of the whiners on here still have an account LOL. |

Originally posted by AbasiMalonethe highlighted text is about all .. lol No really, seriously asking us vets that started SWG with 32 proffessions that you could mix and match, player built cities, the entire economy was player driven with Crafters making all the best gear... Won't be all to helpful Cause the game you will log into is a 9 CLASS set in stone profession of one long series of quests as you level from zone to zone, till your level 90 with nothing left to do but hang out and PVP for some meaningless rank taht dont have any real benifit. Oh and if you get tired of your class.. TOUGH re-roll on anothe rserver cause your stuck with your class.. But in compensation you can say you play a Star wars game... that is really Iconic and star warsy |

Or did you just not realize you were in the Veterans Refuge when you posted? The game you're playing right now, running around as Darth Womprat the level 96 Dark Jedi is not the same game that we "Elder Pre-CU fanbois whiners" played. I'm happy that you enjoy playing the steaming pile of cow dung that happens to currently carry the Star Wars Galaxies title. If you hang around long enough you just might become worthy of being called an "Elder whiner" when they completely change the game again. I'm betting it won't be long before they add Ewoks as a playable race. Ewoks appeal to the age bracket they want playing their game. It's the same ones that enjoy it now.

Adding Ewoks as a playable race was something I thought they should have done a long time ago. Like wookiees, they could have had their own clothing and special weapon plus they would have needed a good racial bonus as they may have been small but they packed a big punch. |
