Well, after all that I finally got WoW. To be honest...I hate the game. I suppose what really annoys me is that I don't know why I hate it. I've been playing it for a few days, and I just can't be bothered to log in anymore. I just don't have any fun when I play the thing. Honestly I could list a few reason why it does nothing for me, but I'm not sure why I'm even posting this.
I suppose I'm just curious to know if anyone else hates the game? Oh well, a waste of money for me. I don't think I should spend money monthly on something I can't enjoy playing. I'll be trying EQ2 instead. The trial takes so long to update -_- This is my opinion, by the way. I'm not saying the game is sucky and no one should play. I'm just saying it doesn't interest me. Or "wow" me as people say. pc.gamespy.com/articles/572/572447p1.html This article annoyed me. That guy obviously was a WoW fan. I couldn't agree with a lot of things he said, it almost feels like he twisted some things to make WoW sound nicer. |

You're not alone. I just couldn't get into it either. I don't like the graphic style (but that's just me), but I understand from a programming perspective why they went that way.

it's okay, most people hate WoW. You probably hate it becuase there doesn't meet like a real point in the game besides leveling. Can you craft stuff? no Can you get a wide variety of armor and wep? Not really Is everyone the same? yes! Level and earn gold and quest. Thats all you do in WoW. I played to 40 on my pally and after i gota horse there was nothing to look forward to but leveling. How boring. Theres better things in life then leveling and grinding all day. I felt the same way were i didn't even want to log on anymore at a certain point. I went back to my orignal mmorpg. UO try that if you have one you'll feel better.

I don't get it either, boring combat, boring quests. Lots and lots of walking. Personally I think it first took off because people wanted a good MMO and it had the name Blizzard. Once it became the most popular, that became the reason why more people got into it. So basically good timing, good marketing, boring game.
Looking from a broader view, I think most MMOs are bad. It’s a genre that is not popular because it’s good it’s popular because people want it to be good. People want an RPG in a persistent virtual world. I think this is a case of the demand preceding the supply, and people taking what they can get. |

Definatly not alone. WoW seems to be like a Britney Spears of MMO's, its just not good. There is just no fun to the game, its a grind game its thats all there is to it, grind level's, then grind gear/raids or grind pvp/gear, its all grind. Instead of coming out with good endgame content they come out with an expansion of 10 more levels of grind. If thats your style enjoy but not for me, and the graphics style is way too cartoony as well in my opinion.

I think I'm looking for an MMO that you can't print a guide for. Go to point "X", talk to NPC "Y", get "Z" as a prize.....But what if NPC "Y" wasn't there? Maybe it's lunch and he's in the tavern, and he he doesn't want to give "Z" as a prize today?

You mean theres theres exciting things to do in other games like grow plants, own a house, go pee in the toilet, and going for a run through monster infested woods? Personally I think WoW appeals to a lot of people because adventuring is something you can't do in real life. It's what the almighty RPG was based on in the first place. It wasn't about living in a world and performing your everday life takes. It's about escaping those everday tasks and doing something differnt in a world where there is a defined good vs evil. Something you can't get in real life. It seems people want to change MMOs into to some kind of virtual reality where they actually live another life and perform the everday events in life. |

Originally posted by SolarPenguinThe reason why they went with those graphics is so that people with old computers could still play the game, which is good if you want alot of people to play your MMO. No one wants to have to buy a new computer or upgrade to play a game that they are paying monthly for. I played wow for almost 2.5 years and I did have alot of fun, mainly because i started playing with people that I knew before and the raiding was alot of fun. The game can be boring i guess when you level but the developers goal is high level raiding and thats what the game is all about, not pvp not crafting or uniqueness. I can see how some people dont find that to be fun because I'm in the same boat my self. Also if you dont have alot of free time this game isnt for you I suppose, to get good gear and raid high end content you need to have alot of free time to lvl/faction grind/raid with guild to get dkp or attendance for items/consumables, this stuff can be pretty frustrating but than again you need alot of free time to play most MMOs. PvP in wow sucks, it gets boring quick and its not as fun as it could be, for ex SWG pvp was fun and was always different, wow pvp is an instance and very very repetitive. Anyway this is just my opinion that I have formed over a long period of playing the game in many aspects, pvp grinding and hardcore raiding/consumable farming/faction grinding/crafting.. Originally posted by area84Yup, that style would allow more people to play, just doesn't do it for me. I also think that mixing PVE and PVP messes things up, because all the classes have to be balanced or the complaints get deafening. I don't like every class being equal, just fun to play, and useful, in their own way, to a group. |

Er WoW is only about raiding or PvP if you want to it be. I played WoW for 2 years without raiding or PvP and had a blast. The leveling was a lot of fun. Doing the quests was a lot of fun. Exploring the new areas after getting to the appropriate level was a lot of fun. I like to explore so I like the leveling proccess. If you are just going to look at it as a grind to get to the raiding then it wont be much fun for you. The majority of people who play WoW don't play it for the raiding. They play for the 1-60 content and level differnt alts up.

Originally posted by SolarPenguin They are relatively balenced, but I would deffinatly say that some classes are stronger then others. It depends largely on your talents and your equipment. The classes actually have a lot of overlapping skills and roles so each class is not completely unique. Thats what I like about the game. In LOTRO the classes are pretty unique and balenced even though there is only monster PvP and they are somewhat boring. It's more variety that your looking for then anything else. Each class having the ability to perform multiple roles is what I like in a game. Single player balence doesn't concern to much. |

Originally posted by SolarPenguinIn my opinion classes in MMOs will NEVER be balanced because thats simply impossible to do, the only way to achieve that goal would be to have a game with only one class. For ex a caster class will always have an advantage over the melee class in range and the meele class will always have an advantage over ranged classes up close because thats what separates the two and depending on how good your skills of the class are you make do with the situation. I just hate it when people complain about classes being balanced, there is no such thing as balanced classes but there is such thing as overpowered. Just my two cents. I didn't like it either. I tried it because most of my RL friends were playing it and i wanted to play with my friends. I've rarely been happy with games released by Blizzard. So i wasn't suprised.
The Looney Toon Graphics being my biggest issue. Yes i want animated. Realistic looking animation. Only thing given to me by World of Warcraft is a deeper appreciation for Sony Online Entertainment and my heartfelt appreciation of the Station Access Pass. Current:EQ2,SWG,Matrix,Planetside |

I had much the same problem with WoW and I attribute it to three things.
1) low res graphics. My eyes kept trying to pick out details that were not there, which caused me some pretty serious headaches
2) Art style. The art style WoW uses is about 10 years out of date. You can keep the same themes without resorting to such 90’s throwbacks as oversized shoulders and weapons
3) Grinding from the outset. I’ve never seen a game that sets you to grinding this early. With no exploration or thinking required and only the vaguest of explanations why you are simply turn around and kill 10 wolves ,and while your at it kill 10 kobolds. Every game has some type of a grind but there is no reason to feel it setting in within your first few min playing. |

Originally posted by Flyte27Not that I disagree with you that it may sound mundane and boring to do everyday events in a virtual world, but let's see it this way: It brings a whole new dimension to the game. Yes, people want adventure, but what about those who have done enough adventure for the day? isn't there a place to rest and chat? is there a place where friends just hang out, and not focus on the combat/adventure aspect of the game? not really. What if people want to be known as the best crafter, not best combatant in the game? nope, they can't because it was viewed as "niche". WoW is appealling because even with its simplicity it still gives people things to do. Even though there are those who dislike the system that WoW has for the quest and such. As for what RPG is, adventure/good vs evil is certainly a part of it. But in the MMO aspect, it should expand the idea of good vs evil and the adventure. If you are the adventurer, isn't there someone who will be helping you along the way? may it be another companion, may it be the weapon/armorsmith that can make you a better set of weapon/armor that will get you further in your journey. What about those who are compete with you in the same journey? Where's the story that makes it grand? Most of the MMO today doesn't have all of these things together. They pick and choose which system to use and that's what the players get. But there are many, including myself, wish that MMO would become a virtual world where there exist all types of characters(combatant, crafters, politicians, ... etc.). Right now in a typical MMO everyone is the "hero-wannabe", and that's what make it fun yet at the same time make it boring. Ok, to the OP: Yeh, there are those like you, who play WoW and couldn't get into it and dislike it. I myself play WoW still, yet I dislike it. (I only play because my friend is playing...) Current MMO: Eden Eternal, Divina (TW Ver.), World of Tanks. Past MMO: Way too many (P2P and F2P) |

I couldn't get past the graphics style either. Just didn't like it, although as stated before, I too understand why they went in that direction.

For about a year in WoW I was one of 2 Crafters who could make Everything Dark Iron and the famous Sulfuron Hammer. I was WELL KNOWN!!! haha everyone came to me or the other guy when it came to blacksmithing even for sharp stones. That was earned tho back when you had to farm your BUTT off to become that...although I wish it was harder then it was at first. Later they made crafters so numerous and easy to become I lost the fame and working towards being a awesome crafter was worthless because so many could do it easy.
They should make being a crafter ALOT harder to be and actually make it skillful in someway instead of just rep farming. |
