1. Asheron's Call First and foremost it was fun and original. It's level/skill/point system was great and made you feel like your getting a cookie every time you kill a mob. Unique character specialization and point distribution ensures that no two characters were exactly alike. The guild/monarchy aspect made it fun and rewarding to help new players because they in turn would help you gain xp faster. This lead to a great community. True, once macroing was rampant this became a problem but the idea was right, it just needed some tweaking. The PVP was AWESOME! It's freedom of movement coupled with the ability to dodge spells and ranged attacks meant that the player at the keyboard determined the outcome, not the level or gear of the character. Add limited item loss and vitae to make winning a battle worth something and you have a great system. The quests were fun, meaningful, part of a storyline, and challanging. Nothing like getting that final mote you need for your atlan weapon off a rotting limestone golem's corpse. To bad this game had a horrible marketing/publicity department. Who knows, maybe you would have played it, hence realizing how great of a game this actually was. 2. Everquest 1 &2 The EQ series gets #2 on my list for it's immersion factor and it's great endgame content. There is so much stuff to do in these games that it's almost overwhelming. 3. Star Wars (Pre Cu) I'm a fanboy, it was fun, there were no elves. And then comes the upgrades! Sony should have committed MMO seppuku just to save face for ruining a great title. The first MMO in the Star Wars series should have been Knights of the Old Republic. Any living thing that eats and responds to stimuli understands that people only wanted to play 3 classes anyway (Jedi,Sith,Bounty Hunter.)
Don't hate the player, hate the game! =P |

My top 3: 1. DAoC - Best pve/pvp combination I have ever experienced in a game, period. 2. AC - Best solo pvp I ever had. 3. WoW - Not sure why, nothing really stands out, it was easy and new. The pvp was okay.
Anticipating: AoC and WO |

I'm guessing most of you have only played 3 MMORPGs so this isn't very accurate. As a person who has played a lot them (UO, EQ, DAOC, FFXI, AC2, SWG, EQ2, WOW, AO, AL). There really is no best MMO, there are just different flavors for different people. The game which I feel that MMO fans owe the most is EQ. While some will say that UO was the originator, EQ is really the game that made MMOs into the thriving communities which they are now. The game was beyond its time, few will remember that It had graphics which were better than single player games at its release.
So my list goes: 1. EQ 2. W.O.W. - it took the EQ formula and added the Blizzard polish 3. FFXI - a great game with really creative ideas which never did as well in the states as it should have. SWG is trash now and I don't care what it used to be. DAOC had very little end game, the RVR was based on massing people, and 4AM relic raids. AC2 had the worst launch in history EQ2 was a great game which would probably be 4th on the list AL has the same graphics as EQ 10 years later AO I was never really into sci-fi |

I would imagine that most of these guys that posted have played many more than 3 mmorpgs. Probably as many as you have but they were just following the threads instructions.. which were.. List "Your Personal" Top 3 MMOGS of all time.. apparently you missed that. Edit : Also he said to mention your most anticipated MMOG coming out.
