Think of something witty and pretend that I typed it in this spot :) |
This is the first in a string a polls and posts that I would like to create to see if there is a possibility of amassing a true community of roleplayers in one place at one time. I do this simply out of curiosity to see if everyone realizes what it is that is keeping us from finding fullfilling game experiences or not. So then, question number 1. What game are you currently role-playing? |

None, and the reason for it is quite simple, none of the games I am currently playing are remotely suited for roleplay (IE, EVE Online) and/or simply do not have any kind of RP community.

Dont take it as a flame but if you want to rp stick to pnp games I have not found a mmo that is immersive enough to rp and tbh i dont think its possible to make one The best you can do is a neverwinter module with a good storyteller as far as pc games go imo |

hmm...for RPing, i play Arindal (not the greatest graphics and it's a little different than other games...and it's not in English) but it's a pretty good game and it's strictly RP unless it's about 10 pm EST (-5 GMT) and there are no GMs on

Next post will be up a little later, just wanted to see with this one if there was even a reason to continue on this line of conversation. The non-rp'ers will click on this string because deep down inside they want to see what RP'ers are doing. Once they get in here, if there is nothing for them, they will post because of their dissapointment. Either way I will be able to tell how many people are genuinely interested in roleplaying and from there I can continue down this path. Oh, just so you know that I know, there will also be those who have special interests posting here to try and keep any attempt at sucking all the rp'ers to one spot from happening as well. Ignore them. They do not have your best interests in mind and are more responsible for their own problems than any of you guys ever will be. I'm just trying to find a voice and an outlet for people who want to roleplay. Who knows, if it works I might do the same thing next for pvp'ers or casual players. The thing is, right now we are all mixed up in a hodge podge of games where our likelyhood of finding each other dwindles with each new release. As we are split up into increasingly more specific subcultures our enjoyment factor is dwindling as well. So I put it to you roleplayers out there that a sacrifice needs to be made for the good of all. Be it genre, pvp vs pve, sci fi vs fantasy if your main reason for playing these games is to roleplay then you need to make that a priority above all those other things. Blaming it on the engine is not an acceptable reason when we all know that the majority of roleplay takes place between players and not between the players and the environment. Anyone remember the Insane Cow Posse from COH? Those dudes played COWS in a superhero game. All it took was some teamwork and imagination. Oops, sorry, didn't mean to get started on a rant. Talk to you guys later. |

Best RP I've found yet is in Everquest II. I'm playing on the Antonia Bayle server, which is filling up with a lot of non-roleplayers, so I may make a new character on Lucan D'Lere (the other RP server, smaller population, but better ratio of roleplayers versus non-roleplayers).
I'm also playing City of Heroes. I'm not finding any great roleplaying there, but at least the modern and real-world references aren't out of place in that world. Lots of character bios indicate the player is a roleplayer, but the roleplaying itself must happen in secret. |

Ive always found Ryzom to be the best current RP community, its actually very difficult to find a guild that doesnt :)

I'd enjoy some mild roleplay myself. but guilds seem too hardcore into it or not at all.
all I want is no (maybe very little) OOC chat, and a few simpler guidelines. |

I'm playing nothing right now, because the MMOs currently out do not really support RPing .

Im on Arindal as well and im happy with the rp in it. There are some interesting concepts for rplers (e.g. bards). The language might be a problem for the english speaking folks though.

Jesad, yes we will be joining an RP-PvP server when AoC launches. /bows graciously I shall make a post here as I am an ardent believer in roleplay. To be true, roleplay was the intial reason we have MMORPG. Afterall, what do the letters RP mean is that acromymn? The issue I see here is the lack of patience for many to understand what their role are in a well written lore-based game. I recall a time when Lineage 2 C 1 was full of those happy-go-lucky roleplayers. Most quite eager to hook you into their story as they offered you a hand in a difficult adventure. But, alas, see what has become of this game. However I suppose it was written in the wind, that eventually it would the way of the saddle oxfords. I have posted in the Pub, my hopes for a new type game. Thus far I have 3 installments. I have not discussed the roleplaying variants as of yet, figuring it's really what these games are all about and I wonder make it my grand finale. Now, honestl;y I do not tend to play at 100% roleplaying basically, due to the neture of the games I play now, however the creative roleplayer see opportunity whenever and where ever he/she adventures. Imagine, if you will a game that allows for roleplayers to flourish. They obiviously would have website dedicated to their story of granduer and glory, quests and downfalls, tricks and treasures. My question tis this; Why do many of those so-called "hard-core" gamers disregards us with a mistrust that runs tantamount to a deepseeded hatred? Maybe it is because they do not listen. They are too much in a rush to level up and gain that all so precious gear they covet? I do not know, but I do know many roleplayers have left many a game disgusted, belittled, and ashamed of the treatments they endure. I currently play, GASP!, WoW, but to be honest why not? However, I am torn at the moment with my guild and it's frustration. Many are "sold" on the bill of goods the developers have them believe. High level instance = high level booty. Argh! yes, possibly it shall be what it is and there is not much I can do to change that. But I can dream of a game where you have many more options than to simply just grind or raid for weapons and gear. Someday there will be a major game available with a story. But a story open-ended enough for those of us that love to embellish using the characters we develop. As for now, many choose the youthful quick-fix gotta get it now approach to gaming. The roleplaying crowd are the steady seaworthy ships of the line. Take your best shots at us foe, but sink us all you shall not accomplish! I would like to say, however that we must be humble. Wise gamers of thought and deed shouldn't use the same apporach or attitude those RPG/FPS vagabonds use against us. Mud only begats more mud. Wisdom and time-tested patience is our ally and weapon of choice. While the the day will come where we shall find our place, many of these will have grown bored of disgruntled and find something else to quicken their pulse. May your inventory be full of plenty and sun always smile down upon your countenence... |
