Listen, I want to be part of the EQ2 community. I bashed on EQ1 pretty hard, started playing Galaxies and WoW, and finally ended up trying EQ2 and loving it. I dropped my sub a week ago after getting frustrated once again at the fact that it seems no one is playing. I've been played through 25 levels BY MYSELF. I see some high level characters running through Faydark, but nothing else. I ran a search for ANY player (regardless of level or location) looking for a group and it returned no results. I really like EQ, but there doesn't seem to be anyone playing. Anyone know what the deal is?

The problem is like with all level-based games who give you expansions that involve new lands. People who are higher level are forced out of the common areas to try to find things that level them up even higher. Thus leaving the low level or casual players coughing in the dust.
My suggestion is to search the forums for a guild, I think that is your only chance to enjoy the game. At least you will have someone to talk to even if you have no on to play with. I too was in your position, but each and everytime I came back, I felt more and more alone and disconnected from old friends. Hurray for level-based games.... |

A pretty drap outlook. Would it be worth my time to maybe instead look into something newer (say LoTR)? There should be more players there? I'm not a fan of WoW or FFXI particularly and I figure Galaxies probably suffers from very few players considering its age.

I may have been to critical, as I am sure others will say different than I, but its my perspective.
As for trying LotR, I do think you may have a better chance at finding people to actually enjoy the game with. Its a different style, the graphics are also quite different from EQ2's, but from what i can see, I think I would enjoy it more and become more immersed in it than I have in EQ. But yes, there are plenty of new people there to conjure up some good adventures with. Although from what I hear because of its new status if you grind your way to the top, you will reach it in a short period of time. Tips from players I know of say, enjoy your time, take it one step at a time and by the time the next release of content is available you will be ready for it. |

Thanks for the tips. I might do that.

Overall i can say grouping can depend on your server and your playtimes, on some servers it works better on others its harder.
grouping in eq2 seems to slowly start at ~lvl 20 these days, cause most players solo till lvl 20. As said before usually the best way to find groups is to join a guild with multiple players in your level range. (a lot players had bad experiences with pickup groups and are trying to avoid these). Other than that the level channels (10-19, 20-29...) are usually the best places to find pickup groups and if you see multiple players posting that they are lfg there then best start a group with them (there are often enough players lfg but noone wants to create the group). I don't think that any level based game can solve that grouping problem, they need a constant stream of new players leveling to keep all zones populated but that is really hard to keep active over years. Even tools like mentoring in eq or other things like that won't really help pickup groups, people will usually mentor to help friends but most time they won't do that for a pickup group. |

You can try: 1) If your server's population seems low to you, create a new character on a different server. This time check server populations out and perhaps check out the guilds there for activity. 2) I think if you hit the "U" key on your keyboard then a list of guilds currently recruiting will be displayed. This may help you as well. 3) As far as a new game goes... I'd stick with EQ2 for awhile. I've heard some bad reports out there on LoTR and as I understand it... Vanguard:SoH is just plain bad. 4) You may want to check out some of the new up and comming games. My personal favorite so far is "Age of Conan". This game looks quite nice and will be released Oct 30.

I did try starting a new character btb. My first character that I put a lot of work into was on Venekor (which is what ended up killing the experience). My 2nd on Oasis. Still not much luck. I have tried joining guilds but as far as I know you have to wait for them to get back to you and never have gotten a reply :). I'll keep trying until my sub ends and see what happens. Maybe if I had a better idea of what kind of server I should be joining. Are heavy servers going to be mainly higher lv characters or just a bigger range. Will lighter servers have more low level characters, etc. I'll see.

I play on the Butcherblock server and the population is pretty good there. Nice community also. There are lots of characters there of all levels and you can find most any level at anytime. As for grouping at lower levels, I rarely do. You can just fly through the first 20 to 25 levels, and the only reason I group then is to finish a Heroic type quest. I`d say that grouping really starts in the 30`s (for me it does anyways). If you`re having trouble with groups in Faydark, I`d suggest takeing the boat to Qeynos. I`ve noticed that a lot of people bring their Fae to the old world to lvl up. |

Personally I have tried a bunch of MMO's out there...LoTR, WoW, EVE, DDO, COH and I keep coming back to EQ2. I enjoyed playing a bunch of them, but for me EQ2 does it all I guess.
Finding groups can require patience and luck sometimes, but every time I have been on the Nektulos server lately all channels have people lfg pretty regularly. I have a level 70, but also a bunch of alts and will switch sometimes because even the alts need some love sometimes! I think a good way to start out is find one of those complimentary classes - if you are a warrior look for a healer or illusionist and a lot of areas and quests can be accomplished with 2 people. Once you have 2 people it seems chances improve for getting more - and it is true that many higher level players have had bad PUG experiences (who hasn't), but if you can find a guy who is good to group with add him/her to the friends list and when they are online send them a tell. We built a guild this way, found some great people to group with, made friends and went on from there. Right now I have limited playing time, but a good friend of mine (made online in game) and I still find time to run quests and check out new areas. We have a templar/ranger, illusionist/warden combo that we use the most and it works pretty well in getting through the game content. Most classes will work, though I don't recommend two templars trying to grp - the mobs may die of boredom while waiting for you to kill them You can also go to the official forums for the server you are on - many of the well organized guilds post on the forums looking for members and you can send the leaders messages or post there and may find a perfect match that way. Plus, if the guild has its own website that is a good way to get a feel for the way they play the game and may cut down on your time searching for one that fits your playing style. |

I am really surprised your having a hard time on Oasis. I play every night and just from what I am seeing in the chat there are groups looking for players and players looking for groups in all level ranges. In fact im finding at times some of the lower level chat has more going on in it than the 60-69 chat. If your looking for a good guild to find groups with, I was with Immortal Valor on Oasis and they seemed to have something going on most of the time. |

Antonia Bayle has lots of folk asking for parties. Also, if you find a nice guild to play with, the option of friends mentoring you is always there. If it weren't there, my friends never could play with me, but they love to come help me do quests and such because not only do they like to go back to older areas, they also like the AA exp they get from working on my quests with me. So I say, whatever server you're on, look for a guild with either a lot of people, or a few helpful people, and they'll get you into groups mighty fast. And soon you'll find you've got plenty of friends to group with whenever you want.
