For LEGO Universe to truly become a 'child-safe alternative,' it will have to become the most heavily moderated game in history. It will need a small army of people trained how to tell a child why their painstaking but unfortunately phallic construction had to be deleted overnight. And it will need an installation and registration process so rigorous that potential griefers will take one look and walk away. In short, it's going to be quite the balancing act to pull off a successful roll-out of this game.

I loved Lego when I was a kid. But a Lego MMO??? The mind boggles. I picture leveling up a Lego man after having to kill Lego rats. And for the crafters you can gain xp from building Lego houses. Though thats only once your level 20+. To start with you have to grind Lego daggers!

If I was a kid, I would rather play this than Toon Town. |

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I''m not sure about the former. |

I wonder if they will let us build cities and vehicles? That could be cool. I also think the way they will keep anoying idiots out is by making it a non killing game. You will probably level by quests, but just not by killing stuff.

Someone needs to give these idiots a good kick in the behind. MMO's should not be played by kids. Anyone who lets younger kids play an MMO on the internet needs to be locked up. Letting kids do something like this just invites them to mix with the kiddie porn sicko's. I just can't wait to see legislature's enacting laws against this. You can bet the first scandal and you know there will be one, will get laws enacted all over the place. They should learn to stick to single player games. This is the dumbest stupidest idea I have seen yet. In fact, I think I will give my congressman a call now. |

LOL
My dear child, now I put away the modem, sit here to the comp, here it this game called Transport Tycoon, play with this after you wrote your lesson. No, you can't talk with your friends online to share ideas, but here is the mobile phone instead to call me if you have problem while I'm having fun elsewhere. Yes, if you realise that that parent is actualy you then you shouldn't call yourself "parent". Old rule, if you try to stop a child to not to do something without a real reason/explanation, then they will overpower you. Back on topic. The idea is good if parents are watching their childrens to not to be addicts. Btw will this be a basic lego or the advanced (technic) one? |

This game could be really fun. Imagine being able to build whatever you want and go an lego adventures. I would make a lego skeleton pirate and have a pirate ship with wheels and cannons so it could run on land, and it would be staffed by stormtroopers, then I would go around and attack and pillage other player buildings, it would be like Garry's Mod, but cute and made out of blocks. Of course I don't think the game will be like that, but it was a nice thought while it lasted. |

As a long-time gamer and parent of two children (currently 8 and 3) who both play computer games... I think this is great. If they approach interactions with the same care that Disney did in ToonTown, I see no problem with it whatsoever. For those not familiar with the child-oriented mmorpg, all talk (except for folks you know in real life) is menu-driven, pulling down to stock phrases and replies. It's actually amazing how well you can play and coordinate with people without every actually typing something original. As for activities, there you battle humorless robots with practical jokes... A lego environment has a lot of potential, although I suspect construction will be limited to the model-kit variety, rather than free-form block construction. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with. And yes... our children do not play unattended. Although, primarily that's so we can help and explain things. They aren't allowed in environments where anyone might actually interact with them freely. |

I agree with Jack, all it really needs to be 'kidsafe' is quickchat, and it's not like that's hard to implement. I'm sorta disappointed by the lack of foresight in this thread. The creativity purposes a Lego mmo is great for kids and adults (ie the parents) alike. For some its seems like its too late, as their creativity and imaginations burned out long ago and they sit here and ponder what to do in a Lego mmo.

I'd play it. When they say "Lego Universe" I have to wonder what kind of a setting or backdrop the world is going to have. ..................................... ...but time flows like a river... ...and history repeats... -Leader of "The Fighting Irish" in DAoC on Hib/Kay- |

Well, I was going to say this would be perfect for the WoW kiddies when their game is patching. However, I have deduced that it requires originality, imagination, and -*dare I say it*- at least a pre-school mental acuity to be able to build with Legos.
So, I guess the WoW-brigade has been cut off from this game.......
