The House Pack-Up event scheduled for June 5th has been postponed until June 12th on account of some unresolved bugs which SOE says still need to be worked out before the event can proceed.

Folks,

We have decided to postpone for one week the House Pack-Up event until Tuesday, June 12th. We still have a few open bugs with vendor pack-up (vendor pack-up working completely is one of the requirements for this event). While these problems are edge cases, meaning that they would happen only in odd circumstances, they are still possible and we certainly do not want to have folks lose their stuff during this event. I know that many guilds and other groups have been planning there strategies for the event, so I wanted to give folks a heads-up now to give them time to adjust their plans.

We will be adding an new step to the overall process as well. We plan on Thursday next week to 'unabandon' all structures belonging to those players that have resubscribed during the special trial period. This should give people plenty of time to check their structures and be sure that there are no errors in the houses to be packed. We are also planning to release a hotfix next Tuesday, June 5th, which address some of the current issues on live.

Once again, we are sorry that we need to postpone the event for a bit, and I hope that people can adjust their plans accordingly. We will always strive to error on the side of caution when dealing with things as important as player items in the game.

Thank you and have a great weekend,

DM

I'm no huge fan of the NGE, but dude I'm over it.  People have to get over this.  It's just pathetic to keep ragging on this game two years later.

Not to mention, I rather like the tone DeadMeat is setting with SWG-NGE now.  A better interpretation of  "We will always strive to error on the side of caution when dealing with things as important as player items in the game, "  would be "While I, DM, am at the helm, we will always strive to error on the side of caution....<snip>"  This is the second publish/event that he's pushed because things weren't ready, and I applaud him for that.  This is not the SOP typical of SOE, and he should be encouraged to continue his rebellious ways.

I'm willing to bet my 5 mil cred geo-blaster and the 200,000 units or rori avian meat my buddy martuk spent 80 mil to get right before the cu, all rendered useless by the cu that this housing purge winds up as just another collosal foul-up in the dirtiest game on the net.

And don't give me that "It's better now, they're re-introducing pre-cu elements" bull. I remember how it was, and no matter how much they try to make it seem that way, the more they'll remind us of what was taken away.

How about being in the beta, beta testing JTL, working my droid engineer on day one from zero cash to multi-millions in credits on my sales alone, changing to Creature Handler, mastering it, only to have it completely removed from the game.

Cry me a river. You are not the ONLY one to have this happen to them.  I left in disgust just like many. Difference is, I'm not dwelling on it any longer like some seem to be.  I am wary of SOE to this day, but when one of their developers, namely DM, is doing good things berating them for sins passed is ridiculous.  Just maybe they've learned from some of their mistakes. If we offer no forgiveness in the face of their attempts to change, then they have no incentive to change.

In your post you chided them for having bugs that pushed the patch.  I suspect you'd be as equally abrasive if they had released the patch with obvious bugs. To wit, there's no pleasing you, and thus your opinion becomes irrelevant.

Yea, i'm over it too.  and I'll make sure everyone knows exactly what it is i'm over.

SWG is a hell of a lot better now, then it was when the NGE came out 2 1/2 years ago. Sure it's no pre-NGE or even pre-CU SWG, but it's quite enjoyable and parts are down right fun these days. The devs have done a lot and made a lot of improvements and bug fixes. I was a die hard pre-NGE SWG fan (though I liked the CU, as did the MANY people who came back to the game after it came out.) When the NGE hit, I was devistated by it. But with the recent Creature Master system in, they brought back a little of the Bio-Engineer that I so loved, so I decided to come back. I'm glad I did. The game I so loved is still here in many ways.

The NGE SUCKED. But current SWG is worlds better. It's still not what it used to be. But it really is worth a shot. It's not the steaming pile of rubbish it was when the NGE first hit, thats for sure. :)

I /agree. My 14 day free trial ended last night, though I have an agreement with the wife to wait till payday to re-up in SWG.  I packed up my houses for safe keeping before I left the NGE, and I packed them up again last night till I actually renew my subscription, why risk it? I would recommend all pack up housing the eve of the destruction, in case SOE gets it wrong.

During my 14 day trial I have noticed these improvements to SWG.

1. The dawning of Beastmaster skillz have brought back pets, and some outlandish mounts never before seen. Rancor, Graul, and one spiney from Mustafar to name a few. Be warned, the start up costs may be difficult if you are just begining the beastmaster skill tree. My own MCH is keeping his pets, I started an trader alt to begin to test the new pet system and storage without risking my older uber pets to premature decisions of stuffing or dna sampling in a vain hope, maybe SWG will allow veteran CH's to use them again after all.  I think SOE realized we veteran Creature Handlers voted with our subscription fee when the NGE came out. They want us back, so far they have only given us half of what they took. Albeit now a Beastmaster is a cross between BioEngineer and Creature Handler. Veteran BIO Engineers should return to take advantage of the pet decor shortage for housing. Their old pets are a commodity.

2. This new chapter has caused alot of Veterans to return. There is a sense of reunions occuring in SWG, though muted, as alot of veterans are faced with a 10 level grind to 90, gui re-orientation, and other issues, like where to find decent lightsaber mats. Read the forums to gain your edge. Knowledge is power.

3. It was nice seeing all my old houses and junk again. Macros nerfed have been fixed. I can move objects and command droids again. Wise traders list weapon skill level before the weapon name to ease shopping. Armor is a mystery again. Seen new types. Confirmed Jedi class armors besides Jedi Knight robes issued at level 90. Looks like there are a ton of spys and commandos and BH's for dps classes.

4. Restuss is a true PVP zone, a destroyed city in ruins with a ton of places to hide and spring ambushes, also witnessed a huge shuttle dropping off a squad of stormtroopers, a shuttle class only seen normally in orbit. I found that scene to be a very nice touch.

5. More Content, quests, and fewer bugs, though some still remain which are kinda nostalgic...snap backs....lag in cantinas....noob quest spawn area competition with other players....it pays to be level 90. Vacant medical facilities....as a former master Doctor too, I find that still heart breaking. One thing WOW has over SWG is the character "jump". Its really bad in SWG. But we can walk up shear cliffs  and ride really fast in comparison to WOW,

Compared to other chat where ppl are wondering what they can do while waiting for something new to come out. SWG is a viable alternative till something better comes along.

I forgot to add.

Your veteran rewards.

They will still award them too you upon your return. You should see SOE/SWG website to see what they are before you make any rash decisions if you accept the free trial offer to "just look around". After all, For those of you who were Uber 2 years before I even logged on for the 1st time, would'nt you want to check out the new perks?

Hey if you enjoy this game as it is, more power to you.  But don't come here saying what a great game it is.

We all know what a great game it was and what it isn't today.

Is this house-packup supposed to draw us back or something?  Yikes!  My houses and factory farms were filled with resources...which are all useless in NGE SWG, so why even bother?  Just clear out the landscape, shut down some servers, move the dev team to something else, and let this poor game rest in peace.  It would be kinder than this constant attempt at keeping it on life-support.

For those of you who like the NGE, and I just can't believe there's very many, well...if you only knew what the game USED to be.  Very sad.

Waiting to get something right?  Concerned about player items?  Trying to give people notice of upcoming changes to previously announced plans?  Wow, SWG sure could have used a dose of that kind of thinking at release, again at the CU, and definitely at the time of the NGE.  Whoever is responsible for this new philosophy in SWG, it has been needed in a reeeeally big way.  It's good to see the change.

For some of us it's too little too late, but THAT is the way to deal with players/customers.  NOT like the NGE when we were so bugged we couldn't chat, walk, or use our combat specials.  NOT like the NGE when our high priced items, or loot that we got in expansions we just bought were "disabled".  NOT like the NGE where our veteran rewards were removed from the game.

If this approach had been taken earlier, a lot more players would be enjoying themselves in the galaxy far away.  Still, I'm glad to see someone has finally come to their senses.

Yeah I feel about the same.  I'm over being upset about it, made my peace, accepted my losses, reinvested in other fun stuff online, but I also like letting people know how SOE has treated people over the last few years.  I see forums as kind of a "lemon-aid" guide, telling you pros and cons of games, and giving people a look at the track record of gaming companies.  SOE has a brutal track record, and people should know about it.  If new staff want to put a new face on SOE, they'll have to work pretty hard to earn the trust back that others destroyed.  Also, it would be a big help if SOE had new management.  The same guy is running the show, and he damaged his credibility repeatedly by the way his company treated the SWG player community.

The problem with you "warning people about what the game used to be" is that not everyone from Pre-CU/NGE thinks the changes are for the worse.  Personally I think the changes were pretty nice.  Only thing I'd be mad about is how it was sprung on us with so little/no warning.

I would've prefered to see SWG released as the NGE from the get go instead of first giving us a broken game, then trying to fix it.  Sadly, I can't deny there are still a lot of broken things and at this rate, will always be.

That aside, it's enjoyable.

Back to the subject, it is nice to see SOE is taking more time to let players prepare for the changes this time.  Maybe they'll seriously consider a server consolidation to give the active players more people to interact with.  I wouldn't doubt seeing a few severs at their best would do the game a world of good.

For SWG, the first step to merge servers is to clean up (pack up what is on the current ones).  Once every account is taken care of (stored or active) then small servers will be given the option to move to larger servers.
