best way to look at this case is to use an analogy... lets say you went to the movies and paid to get in. you are comfortably watching the movie when all of a sudden someone behind you starts making all kinds of noise, they begin to throw ice and popcorn around which totally distracts your enjoyment of the movie. now can you sue this person? can you sue the movie theatre if they dont remove this person in a timely matter? or can you just simply ask for your money back and be done with the situation?
basically does the MMORPG offer a gaming experience that is free of farmers/hackers/acct sellers and has a clause that you can get your money back if they dont live up to that claim? if the answer is no, then no suit is ever gonna work unless you find one really retarded judge and an equally retarded one when it goes to appeal hehe. |

PS: my answer to your question about your analogy above is, YES, I CAN'T SUE THAT PERSON, BUT I CAN ALWAYS SMACK HIM UPSIDE THE HEAD...

In principle i'm not against gold sellers, though I've never bought online gold. If a person wants to spend their time 'farming gold' then I say let them. What I am TOTALLY against is people using bots to farm gold. It takes away the honest hard work of others. MMOs shouldn't be sueing the gold sellers but should instead use it's time and money to close bot accounts. Thats one of the reasons I left WoW, all the damn bots and Blizzard taking weeks if not months to remove them after they have been reported.

Personally I dislike sellers, eBay and item/gold/account selling sites have all helped ruin a number of games ever since it started. The lawsuit may not do much more than annoy the people doing it and I'd much rather see a mass of gamers storm their offices with baseball bats or, even better, a real hacker (note, I said a real hacker not some wannabe cracker who poses in games uses someone else's work and claims to be a hacker) hack their real world bank accounts into the red. Unfortunately what I do think may happen someday (not soon but someday) is the formation of an international net police and unified law system, I say unfortunately because this will crush many of the freedoms we now enjoy out here (and no I don't mean just your little pr0n sites). As long as people continue to skirt the rules, hide in other countries, and ruin things for other people out here more and more people will eventually start demanding that something like this be done. I'm not saying this alone will be responsible, but it will add to that proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. µV |

If WoW didn't allow anyone lvl 1-20 to spam in general chat or to send tells to anyone more than 10 levels higher than them, this problem would be solved. All the characters and accounts used to spam are generally level 1, or on a 14-day trial (cannot exceed lvl20 during a 14-day trial). Simple solution: Don't let anyone on a 14 day trial send tells to people 10 levels higher. Don't let anyone under level 20 send tells to people over 10 levels higher. Spam problem solved. I actually sent this suggestion to Blizzard in a trouble ticket but I don't think they read those. - Phos (PS - I hate gold farmers too, but as long as it's necessary to have fun, I just factor my "gold buying" money as an additional 'unofficial' monthly fee necessary for playing the game. I pay $15 per month to play, and I set aside $10 per month to have gold so I can actually have fun in-game. I hate that I have to do that, but I refuse to spend a week farming just so I can have one night worth of fun with the little gold I've managed to scrounge together! Shame on Blizzard for making a gold-dependant game and then allowing gold farmers to control the market!) BTW - I have since quit WoW because of many reasons including the spammers.

Why do you need to buy gold to have fun? Just don't get it. ____________________________________________ |

YES!!! Hopefully we will see more companies getting sued. This has been getting out of control for some time, glad to see someone other than Blizzard doing something about this problem. |

Blizzard is right to sue these losers. Gold farmers are now sending unwanted tells and group invites to individual players. They just spam, spam, spam, and ruin any game the infest.

Every little town or major city has crafting vendors who supply the vials and other accoutrements necessary to craft. Once in awhile, these vendors sell semi-rare item recipes, usually in the 15 silver to 1 gold range. You buy these recipes and sell them in the Auction House for three to four times their value, sometimes even more. You do this and you'll always have a few extra gold around when you want it. |

I've already quit WoW and sold my account illegally with some purchased gold on it and a botted set of lvl 70s with uber gear and flying mounts. Thanks for the tip though! - Phos
