I was hoping if someone could help me with this problem i have.
Basically i use to have DSL (sympatico) that i had connected to a router (Dlink DI-604) But just recently ive switched to a 6mb line cable internet. Now im using the same router which is a 10/100 switch type. But now im having a lot of disconnects and weird interuptions when browsing the internet. I'm a complete router newb. Does this sound like i need a new router? Like one of those 100mb routers to be able to use my cable internet properly? |

No, the router should be fine. It sounds more like a service issue. When you have an outage/intermittant issue, have you tried running a traceroute or anything? It may show where the break is.

i havn't use any programs like that before, but i'll look into it.
I did some reading and ive read that other people experienced similar problems on that DI-604 with high speed cable internet. I never had these problems with dsl before (maybe because its slower?) im wishing it wasn't the service's fault because it leaves me feeling helpless >< |

Do you use BitComet? |
|
No, i dont use bitcomet, but i do use uTorrent.
I'll try out the link and run some tests. Also while my internet was down i switched and connected directly to the modem itself. It was still unable to get my internet back online with all the ip /release and /renew attempts. I called my ISP and they said that everything was okay on their side and in my area and that they could not communicate with my modem at that time. so they're sending someone here to look at the problem. The hard thing about it is that it goes on and off so it will be hard to determine the problem if everything is working okay for now. Maybe i have a defective modem? |

Originally posted by Regnoroki had problems just like this with my cable when i first got it. the cable company was at my house 4 times, replaced the line TO my house twice, replaced the line INSIDE my house and all that STILL did not work. they send the problem over to their line network specialty department who tracked the line problem several blocks away from me. after about a week, *POOF* no problem at all, i contacted them and they said it was traced to a "remote wireless device". they didn't get much more specific about it than that, but in a previous conversation with a tech he said they've traced other situations with interruptions to garage door openers, traffic signal controllers, and even automatic street lighting. stick with 'em and stay on top of it, if it doesn't work, let them know, make a fuss, but don't let them push the situation aside. if you're looking at monitoring your connection go to www.broadbandreports.com they have a utility there that monitors any disruptions to your broadband connection. good luck ____________________________ |

Thanks for the tip, when the tech guy got here, everything was functional so he didn't even bother but i kept insisting he check the lines and when he did, he found the problem. apparently the signal was weak. well its all fixed now and i havn't been d/ced yet so im fairly thankful for all the assistance and tips! I'm still looking into another router though (maybe) because i feel like this one may be inadequite.
