Originally posted by retrospectic Actually, if english is not the poster's first language then it is more than likely he used a word that was meant to be something else. Could have meant little fool, or silly or something else. Remember "idiot" does mean foolish as well. I think one can look at one's kids and realize that they do foolish things, even in a fond way. |

For those who responded negatively to the poster's bad use of grammar : Shut up! Let's not deny it. Alot of people, mostly teenagers, are always complaining in those games. Unless you want your kid to become an angry sucker like them, you should maybe reconsider letting him play this game. Or any other MMO for that matter. |

My four year was recently introduced to LOTRO. He would play all day if I would let him. I do however limit him to no more than 30 minutes on LOTRO on the ocassions that I let him get on at all. Of course, he cannot type nor does he have a true interest other than he knows he is doing what his dad likes to do best. He has so far figured out how to move around and do some basic fighting with his Guardian. He does love to look at the map to figure which way he is going as he picks a destination to explore. I stand by him to make sure he does not get mauled by the wandering creatures of Middle-Earth. I think I have grown a monster though. The childrens educational games are too simple for him and he gets bored of them rather quickly. Maybe I should groom him to play professionaly?? (nah, I'll hold out for Doctor)
He's the second of the youngins in my household who enjoy the gaming. My 14 year old daughter is also an avid fan of WoW among others. She is the one that convinced our oldest (19 years) to get into Guild Wars. A feat that I was unsuccessful at myself. I never thought I would ever see the oldest one get on a computer for anything other than downloading music or vid clips. Now to work on the 3 year old...parenting is hard work.

I honestly have no problem with kids playing computer games, my cousins play Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and they're pretty young themselves, I think if parents are so worried about them getting no education or being dumb of these games they should encourage them to play the more complicated games that are coming out, I personally think game like Myst Online would be a great thing to play for kids since it wouldn't be them just sitting and grinding all day for a level, it would be puzzle solving instead. I remember when Zelda Ocarina of Time first came out, EVERYONE was playing that, it was a mix of hack and slash and simple puzzle solving but the thing was it made you think, it wasn't just some boring level grind like most MMORPG's and even some RPG's are turning into now.
Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place. |

It is amazing how many little kids play this game.
I prefer a more mature and sophisticated game that attracts like-minded gamers. My sense, when I resubscribed to WoW, is that it is a sort-of baby-sister for many children. It does something to the community, and it was the community why I decided to leave WoW. I actually just canceled (for the second time) last night. I am sure people love the community in WoW, but it is just not for ME. I need something more advance, sophisticated, different graphics. |

Rather this with the "profanity" ticked of course, otherwise it's just bad parenting ;) Than GTA at the age of 8, which is really bad parenting; unless you're american in which case. I doubt they could do anything more. They created the most screwed up society in the world based on how they bring up their kids. The UK coming a close 2nd; ASBOs anyone? The internet, underage drinking, underage sex... well they will teach their kids and so on.. and so on.. it's like we hit the auto destruct on humanity years ago.. and we'll see the fruits of our own idioticy in about 80 years. |

You know, that is funny! I remember when I was playing Vanguard and complaining about its early release and the bugs (since fixed) and people would shout, "GO BACK TO WOW!"
I actually went back to WoW; I even bought the expansion! However, after killing boars at level 10, then level 20, then level 30 and so forth I nearly went brain dead. I then had to kill more boars to cook! Since I have returned to Vanguard (really, on a whim) the community has been blessed. No immaturity, no angst or hatred in the channel. I remember when I asked in WoW if there was a bag vendor in the chat, and some one responded, "NO! Now go away!" It was a level 70 Hunter. WoW is a game in which no thinking or challenge is required to become "loot." I cannot play that. |

Originally posted by healz4uHaha! I'm not laughing at you, but at your comment ;). Sure there are a lot of great people who play WoW, but it's community sucks. Even though there are a lot of older, more mature people who play it, because of the many...many immature kids who play it hurts the community. Now I'm not discriminating against them because they are younger, some kids 12 years old are very mature, while some 20 or 30 year olds seem like they are the kids (to prove my point look at the poster of this thread...he's aparently a father?). The fact is though, generally it's the younger players who tend to be the more immature ones, and the ones that swear when it isnt necessary, and are just plain rude. When a mature player is faced with a group of these immature players, it rubs off on them. So now that mature player is in a bad mood, or whatever, and they resort to the same behaviour. Since it's a VERY large chunk of players that are like this, that makes the rest of the community kind of act the same way, which obviously isnt good. I'll admit this has happened to me, the attitude of the community overall will usually effect the individual players. Go play a different game with a lot of the same people, and if the attitude of the community of the game is a more helpful, 'nice' attitude, you'll see the players that seemed rude in the other game, seem friendly and polite in this one. So yeah...Even though there are a lot of great people in WoW, the overall community is very rude, with excessive swearing. WoW is imfamous for having this type of community. =( |

Absolutely!
Imagine if you were forced to group with these people to level-grind? I do not think WOW would be able to retain its subscribers! Nevertheless, the people shouting in Vanguard (at release) to "GO BACK TO WOW!" have since themselves returned to WoW. I think this is perhaps why I find the Vanguard community so endearing. However, that is just ME! |
