It's not vaporware, but it's got some serious problems. Anyone looking for the salvation for MMOs should just keep looking, they won't find it here. My 'friend' wanted to love this game, but it's just not good. |

Actually a game can become vaporware even after it reachs beta.WISH is a great example. Until it hits retail, it can become vaporware.Retail is the line it needs to cross. Now,notice very clearly i make NO comment about whether or not the game fits the mentioned description. All i do say, is that its not free of the possibility of becoming vaporware (no matter how likely or unlikely) TIL it goes retail. |

I'm not familiar with Wish. Of course, a project can be cancelled before it reaches production (like Starcraft Ghost) but that doesn't qualify as it vaporware either -- Blizzard didn't actively market it after cancelling it. Well, wish would have been pretty dead in the water anyway, even if it had reached retail .It would have very likely performed just a little better than Irth did. Sometimes games should become vaporware.Irth should have. And agian, please note i make NO reference to PotBS's statis, or what its fate is,should,or will be

vaporware Main Entry: va·por·ware : A computer-related product that has been widely publicized far in advance of any release but has not and may never become available. : Vaporware (also called vapourware) is software or hardware which is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge, either with or without a protracted development cycle. The term implies deception, or at least a negligent degree of optimism; that is, it implies that the announcer knows that product development is in too early a stage to support responsible statements about its completion date, feature set, or even feasibility. A true example of vaporware is the much anticipated MMO Star Trek Online (www.startrekonline.com), still in the early pre-production (conceptual) stage after 2 and a half years with nothing to show for it but some 2D and 3D conceptual renderings. This game still does not have a full featured web site. |

That alone supports what I said. I fail to see how the term vaporware applies at all to PotBS. They have done nothing but cater to their fans, give very frequent updates and developer blogs, screenshots, playable sessions at their conferences. There hasn't been any deception or 'negligent optimism', as stated in your definition. They are probably the most forum-active developers I have ever seen, and are quick to answer questions about their game. The only people claiming it to be such are those who obviously do not follow it as closely as they claim, or took one glance at it and said "Ha, this will never happen." Must have been looking forward to the promised features if that's the case.. one of those "Too good to be true" statements. The difference with games like PotBS, and games like Dark & Light (which failed to deliver on 99% of its promises, and was very deceptive) is that FLS has not given any reason for people to doubt their product. |

We do not ask for credit card numbers. If anyone is asking you for a CC#, and claiming to be admitting you into our beta, they're scamming you.

While it is true that it could potentially become vaporware before it finishes beta, I highly doubt it. I believe WISH was canceled under certain extreme circumstances that we do not know. Whatever sprung up during beta, it was apparent that it was unexpected. So unless FL discovers something drastically flawed with the game between and release, I don't think it will be canceled. I was also under the impression taht they have signed a publishing deal and just can't speak about it until everything is finalized.

On the PofBS forums there seems to be talk of more delays in the game. I am thinking we will see this one come out during the fall of 2007.
