I only tried the game for a couple of weeks and I felt the game with its harsch penalties on pking rather deters from PvP than promotes it. Or am I wrong?

You can't "just' pk and think that that is pvp. In this game, if you want to pk someone you better have the support behind you to do it. If you go red then be strong enough to take any consequences that come. If you need to then hook up with your clan/alliance mates in order to guard you while you work off Karma then that is what you do. In L2 you can grief and pk if you want but you have to essentially have the "guts" to do it.
Nothing is easy in L2

Actually Lineage 2 is now a carebear game. Just get yourself an augmented weapon and go around killing people. You can't drop your weapon at all. Hell NCSOFT has MADE THIS GAME into a pk paradise. They are once again proven idiots. They can't even secure their own code from their own developers!!! LOL How screwed up is that?

The penalty adds even more excitement to pking, gatehoppin and stuff...
And the game IS very PvP, it's just not as easy as others;
Just be sure You won;t lag when pking some1 (>'.')>

from reading your comment.. its easy to see you dont go chaotic everyday and just read other forums. Ther is still penalties for going red on alot of ppl. You risk to loose armor etc. ! now GF walking around perma red ganking ppl. You can not use Gatekeepers while red. hf walking. when your red enough and dropped enough armor parts. (6 PKs and up) you will be way too easy to kill for players.! not to mention monsters.
If you die to a monster while RED theres a pretty big chance to get death penalties. So no.. they didnt change it to a PK FEST. They give it a chance to be so. BUT you still have to work on your karma or your doomed.. anyways.. GO LEVEL and PLAY the game. And stop talking about stuff you dont know about carebear! Originally posted by Rha-EL |

Ok, see ya, this game isn't for everyone.
If you want pvp right away, go play a FPS...l2 isn't a game based on skill as much as it is dedication, time, and clan organization. Also you may want to look into Guild Wars Factions, I thought the game sucked, but you can basically pvp whenever, even though I found it harder to without the freedom that l2 offers. The game is marketed as a hardcore pvp game that you have to have the "will" to survive and stay on top. You are looking for easy pvp the moment you log in...so instead of wasting your time, go play a game that isn't so "hardcore." ~MMOs~ GW: Factions - Boring community, quit 4 months. Perfect World - Free and good enough to keep playing. I enjoy it so far. |

Well the problems with FPS games is that they arent persistent. Im looking for an MMORPG, which are almost always persistent, but with an open PvP aspect without all the hassle of who I can attack where and for what penalty.
If anyone have played Asherons Call on the Darktide server, you will know what Im talking about. That game certainly was hardcore in the sense that you could attack and kill anyone, anywhere but without the massive penalties if you did in fact kill whoever you are attacking. |

problem in lineage (and VanGuard too) is that levels meens too much. Skills meens close to notthing..!
If everyone could walk around pk ppl for free in Lineage2 etc. the game would be death
If you havnt noticed this is the same issue with other mmo's , They got no ppl playing and closeing down.. Lineage2 still does ok for a mmo thats 3 years old.
Vanguard wasnt designed for pvp .. so lets not talk about that! |

Yes unfourtantely , in almost all MMORPGS, the balance of character skill and player skill is heavily leaned towards the the former. Imo what should decide who wins a battle or not should be 40 % character level/equipment, 50 % player skill and 10 % luck.

Well the reason for the PK thing is to discourage it. The penalties are not that harsh. You basically get 5 free PKs. PKing isn't something that you want happening all the time. If you keep playing L2, you will actually learn why PKing sucks so bad. You can even do a quest to wash away pk points so you can continue to use your 5 "free" pks, before harsh penalties are imposed.
Also like I said, in this game you need the support. Without it, you will fail. You can technically go around pking till your heart is content if you have a clan to support you. What you are looking for is what L2 offers later in the game. Clan wars, is bascially when you can go out and try to hunt your war tags. L2 is a hardcore PvP game with a long grind before PvP is actually worth it, and interesting. If you like other aspects of the game such as the artwork, the world, the music, some of the community, then I would encourage you to continue playing until you hit A grade and try to join a clan that is a "PvP clan" so you will have tons of wars so you can pvp whenever you want, and even when you don't want. The point is to PvP, not PK... People already think PKers are a problem. If you think the only way you can have fun is to pk someone whenever, then don't be so carebear and take the responsibility. If the 4% death to the guy that you killed was worth it, for example stealing your hunting spots, then PK him. But if it is just some guy running on the road and is like, "whats up?" It probally wouldn't be in your best interest to kill him. Also remember there is also a dueling system, if you want to pvp someone without any penalties, then you can challenge them to a duel. Kind of pointless if you ask me, because if I wanted pvp I would war clan. So, become strong, play hard, and ravage your enemies. That is what l2 is. It isn't log in and kill people, because you wanna. ~MMOs~ GW: Factions - Boring community, quit 4 months. Perfect World - Free and good enough to keep playing. I enjoy it so far. |
