I know its a bit of an oldish topic, but heres my say.
Personally? I'm tired of all the fantasy MMOs out there. Don't get me wrong, some have had really good runs... but there are too many! I'm a Sci-Fi lover when it comes to exploring the stars, taking over planets, visiting other worlds and killing alien critters... I'm in. My first MMO was Earth and Beyond (sci-fi) and my longest running MMO subscription before the company screwed it up was Star Wars Galaxies (Sci-fi). I have good hopes for TR, and the fact that its a sci-fi mmo just makes me squirm in my seat with anticipation. There aren't enough sci-fi MMOs out there and frankly... Eve Online doesn't cut the budget for me.. Sci-fi is about space, ET, and distant worlds. Eve has only one of those (as you cannot directly control nor interact with NPC/PC Aliens other than pre-creation avatars all from human decent.) So.. in the end.. Hoorah! Another Sci-Fi MMO and more-so... one that looks promising!

I'm *so* tired of all the elf-dwarf-human-orc MMOs out there, there's been nothing really *different* since AO and even AO was too close to the classic threadmill fantasy mmo.. Personally I couldn't be happier that a Sci-Fi MMO is coming out and even better, it's got FPS elements which is such a welcome change. Difficile est satiram non scribere |

Originally posted by Demerzel From what i understand the developers are trying to put factors equally into both action and RPG styles in the game, while doing each heavily. If i remember correctly, combat will be based on skill and learning how to 'out-smart' the enemy who will react depending on your actions. (IE crouch behind a sand bag and it will make its way over and beat you melee style as an advantage) whole also holding RPG systems in the game. For instance on each planet there will be a long quest chain/line/group to which you learn the secrets of the planet. How it became the way it is, its history, and what problems its facing aside from the war. Same thing with bases and specific quest lines you'll find throughout the game. Sounds promising to me! Oh and not to mention the screenshots show a 'tavern' lol. that has to count for something!

Hi, I am awaiting this game, because looking for "something" new into SCI-FI mmorpg's. At least, without a test it's hard to say if the game hits the requirements. Much too different are the opions about old-school MMORPG or more FPS style MMORPG's. Anyhow, hope it will have a good mix of single/group based action. Brgds Tashara |

Originally posted by Rayve Oh how I cant wait to destroy some Bane with buddies. Just think of all the fun were gonna have nade'n and rocket'n and kick'n the crap out of those things! I already have one tactic in mind that sounds really fun to do: Hide behind something, after letting a Bane spot you. Wait for him to approach to meelee you. Lobb a nade' into the corner you were crouching in and run like hell! Hopefully he doesnt know wtf is going on and you get away with just a few guts on your back side!
I know for myself that I will really enjoy the tactics in this game. I have forever longed for a game like this to come out. Easy to immerse yourself into, I could see this happening in the future. It has a lot of ties into real things we already have- even in the weapons themselves. Real tactics that make a difference. What choices you make, also make a difference in who you are and how the game develops. I want to be on the edge of my seat when I play games- not falling asleep making robotic like choices! (Even the fact you get to make a choice alone in this game, is really cool. There is no 'one' way to complete the story.)

Most of the other sci fi games are ship based only. Only Anarchy Online and SWG were the only that were really character based (there may be small company ones I never heard of). And out of these on AO is what i'd call sucessful.

Originally posted by JRRTrollkinOn the bright side... EVE online is adding avatar playability to the game.. so you're no longer confined to your ship. you now have a full body.. not just a head portrait and can walk around space stations.. from what i hear they are planning msc stuff for you to do and taking all the ship stuff you once had to do at that "Docking screen" into avatar content.. hopefully some fun stuff like social opportunities and maybe a little poker here and there lol. They've also hinted at possible planetary exploration way down the road as well.

I have been waiting for a decent Sci-Fi MMO to come out for a loooong tiiiime.
This game looks really promising, but hopefully some developer will catch sooner rather than later and put out a really solid Sci-Fi/Cyber Punk game. There is such an untapped market for those games right now.

well after 2 years of playing EverQuest, I was trying Anarchy Online and I wanted to like it, but just coudn't... all this sci-fi stuff and sounds, lasers... Just not for me. But i'm glad for you sci-fi guys, I know there are more fantasy games than sci-fi, and finally you'll get your Tabula Rasa. And there's more coming, like Huxley, Star Trek Online, Stargate Worlds and some others.. |
