Credit where credit is due as they say.
I never took part in beta - so it sucks to be me. I did take part in the EU pre-order called early play and that was a blast. There was an incident when they discovered a problem with the SAN and brought the servers down for a short while to fix it. That was the best move they made, problem found, resolve it. Launch day today was exceptional. Everything running, the payment/account servers screamed for mercy but as they extended Early Play it is hoped that will lessen the impact. I've just managed to complete the lifetime subscription now that the demand has eased off in the EU. A fantastic launch. Smooth, almost bug free (never say never) and lots of excited players hopping around. This is going to be a hit. |

This is no different than any other MMO release. At launch ppl go nuts and it is the best thing around. As a very old Tolkien fan, it is an absolute blunder, pretty or not. Come back in 3 months and tell me how giddy you are. I have played them all over 15 years and this is not the best. I ti is a decent game, I grant t that, but it has far fallen below my expecations.

to Sonicbrew : I dont think we are argueing about game content but rather how smooth of a lunch it was compared to some of the... well... horrible launches of the past.

So which MMO had a better launch ? I certainly cant think of one and I played pretty much every single one from Beta through launch and into x months from release. LOTRO has set an extremely high standard here and even higher when you consider how bad some have been. They have managed to avoid the classic triad of launch issues being : bugs, stability and content. All of those 3 things are well under control.... not 100% perfect... but certainly 98.5% As for DAoC..... please.... like someone else said it was a complete shell after level 25 on release. Sure it turned out to be a kickass title and I played for almost 2 years, but the launch wasnt a patch on the LOTRO. Love this game or hate it, Turbine have raised the bar. +-+-+-+-+-+ |

Well I don't know about the best release ever but this game is good. It's the first MMO I've played from closed beta, to open beta, to live and I didn't dread doing the same quests over again. I see myself playing this one for a long time to come. |

I'm glad for you guys it's having a good launch. It's not quite my game as I'm more into RvR so I'm waiting for WAR but I hope you guys get all the PvEers. After recent fiascos it's nice to see a company put out something worth playing.

Think it being "Game for windows" helps becuase they have to do so many x.y.z. to get certified as a "Game for Windows" title. Every game that will be release with "Games for Windows" , will most likely have the same type of performance quality.
who me ? |

WoW > LOTRO > any other MMO
World of Warcraft is a proof that MMORPG quality should affect schedule/budget and not the other way around. |

I don't know if I would call it the best ever but there are definitely some good things about it. I played closed and open beta, signed up for the lifetime and bought the Special Edition release. I am officially hooked! Things I liked? Graphics, plenty to do, one quest leads to another and seems it doesn't matter where in Middle Earth you start, this is true. Group quests are fun. Things I didn't like? Too much running around, not clear enough directions to where things are at (although it is improving and it helps to realize you need to spend time learning the lay of the land). Avatar creation is pretty limited and everyone looks pretty much like everyone else accept for some color variations.
