i personally think eq still has alot of potential, they need to stop focusing on adding new content and work to improve what they have, mix some quests up toss in some new ones, revamp all the older zones (they've alrdy started with places like nek and freeport). If they feel the need to keep throwing out new content do it in the form of adventure packs with a focus on the old world, do some advertising, new character models..... i seriously think if they put the effort into bringing in new people and upping the graphics a bit they could greatly increase their population... i alrdy love how the game feels and plays, what kills me is the lack of people, i came back a few months ago and rolled a new toon on my server, was nearly impossible to find a group anywhere, if new people have no chance of experiencing the game then it is pointless to play imo, eventually even the hardcore players are going to get bored of new content and the population will slowly die off, and if all of their expansions are aimed towards high end players what are they going to do when they all leave?? just pull the plug? c'mon... seriously tho what does everyone else think? is there no way to bring back the monster? /rant off |

1.) the fact that the game is 8 yrs old means absolutely nothing at all, it was a great game and if they put the effort into it it would go longer... 2.) EQ2 is great, but it doesnt play the way eq did, if they bumped eq graphics up a notch or two and did some minor advertising the game would be better than eq2 imo... 3.) why should i get over it? i played the game for 6 years, is it so crazy that i think they should revive it? |

Ultima is doing it with there new engine and EQ could pull some people back with the same kind of graphical update.EQ does have years of content already and the progressive servers they had created did manage to even bring some old players back to try again (i was one of them).i know EQ2 supposed to have done all these things but i think it be nice to show EQ some respect and give it updates across all the zones like they have done to select places.Either way its not bad to wish for a game that so many have spent time on and have fond memories from to try and keep up with current favorites of the time.I dont agree with just saying a game is old..let it die.i think at the very least it be good for new gamers to get a chance to play it and see where all the new games came from. And unfortunately today one of the only ways to get a new gamer interested in a game is for it have it to look (graphically) a certain way. hehe so in short i'm just saying respect games like ulitma and EQ and don't hate those who want to keep them around with updated graphics. |

Is there no respect for Original Games anymore? Should we also destroy all the old Final Fantasy games 1-6 because they use 64 bit graphics or less, lets forget about the original Solid Snake, and while we're at it i guess the original God of War is old now and should stop being sold. WoW woudln't be around for people to think it the best thing in the world if it wasnt for the success games like EQ and Ultima etc had. What kind of attitude is this to just thinking if its not new its junk? And i'm just curious when does a game turn old cuz it isnt like WoW just came out a month ago its got a couple years under its belt.I'm not hating on WoW btw it does take something to have 8 million customers. If anything i'm hating on those that don't recognize where there favoite games orignate and put those games down.i'm just shouting at the rain i guess lol.

Thank you Enaz13, you seem to totally see where im coming from, and unfortunately you are right, the only way to pull in new people nowadays is to have a graphically impressive game, i however, believe that the way a game plays is more important than the way it looks, unfortunately, the graphics HAVE to be upgraded or EQ will have no chance of bringing in new people, and when the old ones leave the game WILL slowly dwindle and die...

i personally think that the graphics overhaul that sony is attempting is deplorable. the new monster models are ok, but the new zone looks in general seem take alot away from the nostalgia and "old norrath" feel of the game. it's like moving back to the neighborhood you grew up in only to see that its changed so much that you can't even find your way to the park anymore. i know i'm not the only one that feels like that, but i wonder what the majority of people think about the subject.

And not that it's my choice to tell people what they should or shouldn't play, I just think it's laughable for people to demand game companies (especially in the case of SOE who lets dead games linger on for some reason) to upgrade their favorite games so they can continue playing them and still be playing as high of a quality of a game as its newer brethren. Saying SOE "needs" to do this and that to anything is ridiculous. They're just letting this game, Planetside, and SWG all limp on, while occasionally throwing you a bone to keep you semi-interested AND PAYING. There is nothing that remains of this game but a dieing cash cow. I mean seriously 13 expansion packs?....wow... |

nope, no way. By the way with the newest anniversary pack EQ has inclueded the latest expansion. I'm wondering if that might be the last expansion for EQ or not. |

I've not played in a while but I do like to keep up with what's going on in the game for the mere fact that it was one of my favorite MMO's. I'm not even going to speculate on what can/will/should be done to make the game better, the bottom line is, they aren't getting new players (off the shelf new buyers). I don't think there is an influx of people as much as just existing players which has whittled the game down to just hard core raiders, piddling crafters and bazaar gypsies.

It seems that Demon Zealot totally misses the point. EQ is sitll a game people play. The only way to tell if it's truely headed for the chopping block is if they continue to merge servers. The server list has remained relatively set for a long time now, so they must be doing something right. The main purpose of all of these games is to make money, period. If people are playing them, they will stay around as long as they make money for their company. The game developers are not throwing bones at anyone, they are adding content to games people are still paying to play....
Also, for those that don't like the older games, there's plenty more out there to play, so go play them. UO still goes on, obviously making money (although I never liked it)... even Sims Online is still making EA money. Every game eventually dies and even the top notch games of 2007 will eventually die as new ones come along, so it's kind of lame to bash a game due to it's age. Enjoy it while it's here - there's not many fantasy MMOs out there anymore that are a challenge. |

Originally posted by mlbslugger VERY well put... I played UO and loved it, then EQ came out and it took me a bit to go over to it (The game play view made me sick) but once I got into it and use to the view and movement it rocked, I still miss some of the times I had in EQ and all the friends I met, same with UO but as you said new games come out that grab your attention. Presently I am a casual player of WoW (Was hardcore, life took over so now casual) but the point is, there are litterally hundreds of different MMOs out there, instead of bashing on the ones that people are playing and enjoying, go find one that you yourself will enjoy.. many to pick from :) ************************************************************************* |

Hmm... When will a company make a game that just.. doesnt stop expanding untill there out of buisness? EVE Online claims there will never be a EVE ONLINE 2 and it will continue growing as long as they are in buisness. Everquest 2 was a mistake, they should of made EQ an ever-evolving game, they have the ability to change the graphics, the player models, so they should do so more often. I do agree, Everquest would be a great game (and still is) if they expanded it. Some people think MMORPGs are like single player campaign games, once its done, make a part 2. No, MMORPG, its online for more than just playing with other people, they update the quests, the graphics, items etc. So why not just keep on doing that?

have to agree with you there, that would make the game alot better, and then folks also would not feel like they "Wasted" the time playing just to start over new on a different game, which is what killed me on EQ2... HATE starting over...

Ya know whats kinda sad, I bet that there is at least 40% of the game that I hadn't even seen before I quit. (Allot more now, with all the new expansions) Just the way the game is designed with gated areas and tiered access, I didn't have the time and patience to jump through all the hoops necessary to finish. And the amazing thing is, I still spent an uncountable amount of time playing that game. |

Don't know why, just hate the company's games. |

Speaking as some one who started off playing eq many years ago pretty much when it first came out, played for 2 years, has played many since, and now plays WOW.. EVERQUEST WAS THE BEST! IT was the origional, and even though some of the grinding got long winded there was, and never will be a game quite like it. Was that a thought I just had, or and echo of a thought I was thinking of having? |

Originally posted by Psycosis My sincere hope is that you are wrong. I loved the sense of an authentic world in EQ (Pre-PoP and particularly Pre-GoD). The one issue I have with LotR is the lore is known and is not changing; therefore, the world is in effect static. In Everquest, although Qeynos is the same Qeynos, there is something about Qeynos that feels real. As I said, Everquest (Pre-PoP) is as real if not more so than Kansas in the minds of many; it has a since of place, time, distance in the minds (and hearts) of many. We yearn for this sense of a world again. I have not yet found it. |

I am playing EQ 2 and Vanguard and sometimes EQ 1. Vanguard is more like EQ 1 than EQ 2 I think. Boycott EA Games. RIP Sim City. |
