do you keep still/prone to get accurate shots or is the combat something like ut or quake type games?

Crouching will improve your accuracy, running will decrease it. However running will make it harder for enemies to shoot you. There is no lying prone. |

Tabula Rasa is not true FPS in the sense of the word, it is a psuedo FPS. You still have to aim somewhat, but the target recticle does lock on the target and your rounds will track to it very similar to SWG's ranged combat.

"When you see an opponent, it is interesting to see how players approach it based on what they played before. If you are an MMO player, you will walk up to a creature and start playing whack a mole. But since the creatures are stronger, you will likely die. If you are a first-person shooter player, you start hopping and moving around, dodging bullets. That’s not how this game works. So those people also die. Tabula Rasa is a real-time tactics game. For example, if you and I were fighting, the game is full of sand bags. If you and I were fighting, we would do equal damage to each other. If I were to step behind a sand bag, I would take a lot less damage. If I squat down, I can get an easier bead and I am taking considerably less damage. The monsters know that too. If you’re in a tactically superior position, they will come around and kick you to the ground because they know while you are squatting you are a much more vulnerable hand to hand target." - Richard Garriott

There is a class called the sniper so in a sense yes for PvP. I haven't seen any monsters that look to fit the role of a sniper but I wouldn't put it past the team to include one in game.

From what Garriot was saying it sounds almost exactly like Neocron. Which, to me, is a really good thing. Other people have told you the basics, anyone who wants to find out how it actually feels should try out Neocron's free(gotta give CC number though) trial and make a pistol/rifle/heavy weapons type character, melee and psi powers have no accuracy or aiming type thing.
Neocron's Third person perspective is not that great IMO opinion, but the first person is good. So a complete extrapolation is not possible since TB is designed with a 3rd person with reticle perspective in mind. Also Neocron's skill system affects aiming, both general accuracy and speed at which a reticle "closes in" (ie. gets more accurate) as does how a guns in made or enhanced. I have no idea how TB will work in that regard. I hope its like Neocron because it made the crafting pretty nice and was another interesting little detail of how to kit out your character and was part of the pros and cons of pistols vs. rifles. |

TR might come out similar to Neocron in some sense, though it might be difficult to spot, given the massive improvement over Neocron's interface (probably the worst I've seen up til I tried Face of Mankind). I actually love the whole cyberpunk theme from Neocron, it's too bad they were unable to do something worthwhile with it. I'd love to see someone else take over and make a Neocron3 with a complete overhaul and release it cross-platform (PC and console).

If only they had not bastardized Shadowrun into a FPS, and used it as the basis for a MMORPG world, then I would have felt the cyberpunk world perfectly, Neocron just did not cut it for me either.

Originally posted by TealaThis is common for MMOs with shooter aspects. It makes hit calculations simple and they can be done client side instead of server side. This simple change allows less information to be transfered between client to server and back to the client. This is necessary when you have to consider hundreds of players instead of a max of 64 on a map. FPS netcode was optimized over 6 years ago. Since bandwith, latency, and lag are still issues concessions have to be made if you want to increase the scope of a game. |
