As a game developer I would NEVER ask for a social security number, passport info number, ID number (like a drivers licence or state issued ID)... why do they? Sorry I would love to be a pirate and all but that is OVER THE TOP and I dont care how secure the connection is.. rule of thumb is if its illegal in the United States to put your social security number on an ID card AND [which it is] etc etc you get the picture... have fun in that beta because I won't participate. Do you guys at MMORPG screen this stuff or what?!? -Volund |

They give that as an example for a number you can use that would be weasy to remember.. you dont HAVE to use your ss# or DL# you can use any 9 digit number you want.

It also has extremely falsified claims on the ad... "The Most Anticipated MMO of 2007"? I think fucking not. |

Probably because it is hosted by an asian company. In Asian MMORPGs, asking for a Social secuirity number is completely normal. they probably don't know that this isn't the norm in western countries.

You have the option to put in your passport ID or an issued ID number besides the social security number... sorry but I think we've all done betas... Asian included... and none have asked for that as a prerequisite. And to a previous poster i tried variants of 9 to check, and i think they want the real thing. /me shakes as he holds the flashlight aimed up toward his face and says "I'M SOOOO SCARED"... maybe its a Blaire Witch Pirate Game! |

You can put in any number for that. They don't confirm it against anything.
If you're going to not play it, a better reason would be the fact that it's a terrible game and an unabashed clone. This is really a step down from the most generic Korean MMORPG. Flyff or Rappelz blows it away, in terms of quality, by factors of ten and twenty. This is just a clone of another pirate-themed anime-inspired Korean MMORPG. That's what IGG does, I've realized. They publish shitty clones. Voyage Century is a complete and total knockoff of an upcoming Japanese title. It's not even arguable. They copied everything almost verbatim. Myth War Online is basically a shittier version of Conquer Online, if that's possible. I'll give them credit here, though. At least MWO is a mildly different game. Maybe I just haven't found what they copied it from, though. Anyway, Tales of Pirates Online is exactly the same game as Pirate King Online, but Pirate King Online is better. Same characters, same everything, except PKO does it better. Maybe Tales of Pirates Online is just a shitty localization, who knows. Whatever the case, there's zero reason to play it. |
