Originally posted by aerograd I have been playing for a few weeks and IMO most of the nastier bugs are gone. I have not had a CTD in days and use to get them almost every 20-30 minutes. Monsters no longer randomy disappear and I havnt had any inventory issues. I dont really have any complaints about the game but I had zero expectations going into it..I had barely even heard of VG...I just picked it up as I was waiting for a new MMO to tide me over until AoC and its been surprisingly fun to play. |

You say "the game is playable if you have the computer it was meant for". Gee I thought you bought a game to play on your computer, not go buy a computer to go with the game you just bought. Though if they had put the specs of the right computer or the computer it was meant for on the box, perhaps people would not have been so ticked off. But hey it is not every game that can claim they lost 75 percent of their customers in the first month of release. You say every class in the game feels like a finished class ? Obviously your definition of the word finished and mine are very different. Just ask other people who play Disciples, Bards, and Rogues if their class feels finished. I think you will find your definition of finished differs from theirs as well. It is apparent you are not a programmer or you would never make a statement like "All the noticeable bugs" because it is impossible to get rid of all noticeable bugs. The reason is that it depends on WHO is doing the noticing. I guarantee you that hell will freeze over long before ALL the noticeable bugs are fixed. You judge a game by its content ? You are unique to say the least. Most people will stop playing a game when they no longer find it enjoyable as opposed to stopping because some new game is released that has more content. To each his own. |

You remind me of my brother who said he wouldn't spend 500 dollars to play a game on his PC, then he went out and spent 600 on a 360 and a couple of controllers. Pretty funny considering I spent less then half for the exact same gaming experience, and to play a lot of the same games. Get off the I shouldn't have to upgrade kick. It's the dumbest thing you can say when talking about PC gaming. You do have to upgrade, get over it. |

Wow, I'm really surprised about this news. They really don't have visible helmets in the game? I'm suddenly glad I didn't go buy it. I would have loved to have been in the room for that discussion.
Charles: Hey Tom, don't these characters look odd. Like something's missing. Tom: Which characters are you referring to? Charles: The ones with all the plate armor and mail on. They look odd.... I can't put my finger on it. Tom: Me neither. It seems like they're..... hmmm what's the word.... vulnerable? Jeff (Head of the Armor Design Team) : You ##$%ers forgot to put the helmets in the game? What the @#$% have you been doing for the past 3 years?......... well anyone? Charles: Ummmm I've been making sure that the hairstyles look really cool. Tom: I've been making sure that the skin looks really realistic. Jeff: ....... You're both fired...... No i take that back, keep your jobs. I quit. --------------------------------------------- |

sorry, i don't mean to put the game down, but doesn't this BEG to the fact that many many many people were saying all along, that the game was rushed to the public? I know Sigil had to feel heat from SoE to deliver on time and that really makes me angry. I played the beta from early on and the WHOLE time we begged them with good examples of what was still broken/missing not to release the game as is. It just seems they are their own worst enemy at the moment with press releases like this one.

I've only been playing this game for 2 days now, but so far this game has been awesome. Plenty of stuff to do solo, and I haven't seen a hint of boredom impending. Sure beats Dark Age of Camelot and Dungeons & Dragons Online. Even though I posted here, don't think I actually want to have a conversation with you. |

Wow. Not gonna comment directly on the topic here, but as an aside, let's just say that this is the piece of news from MMORPG.com that garnered the most answers in quite a while.

A minor fix and a statement that someone is THINKING about fixing a problem is news about the MMORPG genre? If you care about any of this you'd see it on the VG site. Updates from GDC are news, this isn't. |

If you have anything positive to say about this game, you are truely beyond hope. It is at least a year away from anything playable. Worst waste of money I ever spent. Their little patches won't help enough to make a difference. Heck the beta in LotRO is far more polished than this game will be in 6 months. Brad is not operating in reality. I think he thinks he walks on water at times. |

I'm more impressed by the amount of venom being spat out, by those that truely hate (such strong word) a blooming video game so much, christ its only just launched so how much of your pay/pension/benefits did you guys loose 50-60 bucks or 30 quid....
Oh now your all on a crusade to stop any other poor souls wasting their hard earned cash, what are you guys advocates to, The league of avoiding crap games? I too have quit vanguard, but I thought it was extremely playable, just to much of a timesink for me... |

I would have to say the most humerous thing about this is that THE GAME DOESNT HAVE HELMETS LOL. I mean i have beta tested this and wasted my time, and reported bug after bug after bug and they still droped the ball at release time, the game is garbage, and yes you do need a SGI system lol to run this compiledgarbage code. lol. with that said, dont waste your money to TEST the game out, wait another week they will probably have FREE PLAY for 2months to get new players cause they only have 1000 lol

Originally posted by CaesarsGhostNever compare a single player game with a MMO. Its like comparing a sports car with a bus. Bus will have a lot more weight carrying inside. At best, a single player game will show 10-20 models with 3 or 4 different textures(armor, weapons, clothing) at the same time AND usually those characters are just copies of one or two models, so theres not much rendering going on there. Now imagine a MMORPG, with potentially hundreds of characters at one place and potentially dozens of unique models with hundreds of unique textures (armor, clothing, weapons). You are correct about one thing however, Vanguard was released too early and the engine is not optimized well enough yet and it doesn't scale back quality for use with older machines. Having advanced technology is great, but having ability to work with advanced technology and at the same time ability to scale back for those not fortunate enough to have a 2000$ machine is even better. I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time. |

Originally posted by chewdog82They have much more then 1000 players. They have over 500,000 characters created. Assuming one unique account creates 4 characters on average, thats over 100,000 subscribers. Some people probably left after the first month, so I'm guessing the pop is at 100,000 or just below it at the moment. However, If anything, the pop doesnt seem to be that bad, some dungeons (tsangs tomb for example) are often overcrowded. Originally posted by jimmyman99That used to be true... not so much any more. Now if you've seen the engine from CryTek you'd realize the processing and graphics power is far higher then any other developed engine on the market. Especially true for a game engine that dates back to 2002... with the UE2.5 in 2004. As far as "Optimizing"... I'm not seeing much of an opportunity for that. If they managed to hire the coders in question, I doubt they hired any that could do more then script in the required game feature set... obviously they couldn't script the higher end features... So the notion that they'd hire programmers that could actually optimize the engine code is slim to none... an engine they didn't build, they leased the right to use. It's the difference between a programmer and a scripter. A programmer can be a scripter, but it doesn't work the other way. The requirements also falls heavily on the Art Team: As an Art Lead, it would be the requirement to make sure that all the models were optimized prior to entering the game. Checking polycounts and whatnot... un-needed collision boxes... Texture sizes... Meshing... (I won't start on coherant art direction...) It just seems that in all the "planning for the future" they forgot to plan for now. I built this machine specifically so I could run high end graphics on all the games I knew I wanted in the future. Bioshock, Crysis, Spore... it can do em all. Vanguard for some reason is another story. And that's with nobody else around. This isn't about "MMO's need more cause of thousands of players"... you loose that excuse in the empty gameworld scenerio...it's about poor planning and implementation. So yes, you can compare MMOs and Single or Multiplayer games. LATE EDIT: I can run Oblivion with almost all the settings on their highest. You can't tell me that Vanguard needs more then that... you just can't. - CaesarsGhost Lead Gameplay and Gameworld Designer for a yet unnamed MMO Title. |
