Why?

Is this happening in order to get people to re-sub so SOE can have the funds for another expansion? I mean, they're not hurting the game or preventing others from playing the game. Don't tell me it's eating up resources because they're really not. Some people may want to return to the game at some point but forcing them to come back to save their belongings? C'mon. Make the game good again or dump it and the few subs you have.

It's being done to benefit the people playing the game.  At the moment, all servers are capped on cities, so no new ones can be made yet the majority of the current cities are all populated by people that left the game years ago.  So, that's an entire part of the game that new people to the game can't experience.  Travel outside of Theed or Coronet and you'll see masses and masses of houses and factories, the majority of which are again left by people that left years ago.

When the house is wiped out, all the contents of the house and the deed will be put into the persons bank storage, so if they ever do return to the game, all there stuff will be there.  Even if they dedided not to do this, a housing purge should still be done regardless. Focus needs to be put on people actually playing the game, not on those that may return later.  Afterall, when you quit the game, the page you see before you hit the Quit button does warn you that after 3 months of being gone your stuff may be deleted.

100% agree!

IF people are so anal as to resub just to keep their crap where it is then they have more serious problems than giving SOE money for an expansion. They need to seek professional help. If I was calling the shots 6 months after the account has been inactive it would be wiped. I lost a UO account like that once and I knew full well it would happen and it wasnt a surprise when I found out. Its like someone I used to know years back keeping his junk in my garage. I never hear from him and yet he still expects me to keep is stuff just incase one day he needs it.

Family man first, Gamer second!

ArmySurplus makes no apologies if someone other than him has already posted his reply in part or otherwise. He can’t be expected to read every single post on a thread and makes no promise to do so. If you posted a similar reply before him you undoubtedly stole his thoughts and used them without his written authorization. Please return to your post and edit it so that his post is the first to state whatever the hell he was thinking at the time. Thank you!

Holy Shit, Obraik

Almost 4000 hours in SWG? Damn, that is dedication.  Not to flame or troll but I have to ask this question.

What are you doing in SWG for 4000 hours that keeps you there?  When I resubscribed about 4 months ago I couldnt even last a month. What are you doing in those servers

even before the CU and the NGE this was a problem. Too many dead houses.

It's about time they did this.

They're doing a housing wipe???

I for one am glad to hear it.  I'm sick of seeing ghost towns everywhere.  That's one of my few complaints with the game right now.

Rock on!   I just cancelled my sub after almost 4 years of non-stop roller coaster fun.  Just ran out of things to do, people to see.  If I come back and my stuff is wiped... Oh well thats the way the cookie crumbles.

Well...houses USED TO self-delete like harvestors did, but people complained, so not only did they make the houses auto-deduct from your bank, they also made it so the houses couldn't get deleted.

Re-instituting a means for houses to go-away was long overdue, sure.

I won't be surprised when not many new cities are built in the wake of the purge though.

It won't delete the house...merely pack it into your datapad.

As you can tell I don't post much but that there made me say ... WTF!

If that were true then the NGE would have never seen the light of day, IMO.

Not completely true as the datapad can't be accessed when the person isn't logged in.  Instead, all the items and the deed will be dumped into the person bank storage.

Hmm, could have sworn I read a Dev response to this saying it will be packed into your datapad like you would if you were on line. /

/shrug ah well

NGE is in the past. The new devs have apparently learned from the mistakes of the old, and the game is improving as a result. And one way it has improved is that the devs ARE listening to the current players.

the problem is that it IShurting everyone. It means all the cities are lvl 5, they are all ghost towns. when its all gone it will kick-start the economy, so that people can be rich (rich is VASTLY different from wealthy some1 with 100million is wealthy but some1 with 100million more then every1 else is rich), the community can be kick started and we can all get the game we love back.

the only reason it was done in the first place was because of the tornadoes and such like back in 04/05 so that people didn't lose their chars then with most things the CU and NGE came along and the feature was forgotten and they trying to bring it back but once again its FULL of bugs and not really working at all.

i for one will start playing again the SECOND this is done and i know thousands of other people will as well as it will allow for a fair and playable SWG which i think is what we all want :-)

There will be no classic servers, now or ever. Sounds like you're the one with a hearing problem, as it's been stated multiple times by everyone involved with SWG. If classic servers are the only thing you wanna see, then move on. It ain't happening, and I for one am glad.
